Bill, You forgot to mention that Get Hip also carries a huge catalogue of
indie labels from all over the world -and they do a great job of it. I always
get great service from Gregg, Barbara, and co. Keep up the good work, Bill.

I've just heard a rumor that IRS records is closing shop. Can anyone
confirm or provide details??

I remember getting my first taste of the Fleshtones from an IRS EP. IRS
has been responsible for some pretty interesting music, and if this is
true, I hope their masters end up with someone who'll care for them.

Well, with all this Olympics crap going on I'd almost forgot what's
really cool about Georgia: W/Jayne County and the Electric Chairs! I
came across a new cd, priced at 5.99 (close to 30 tracks!): Rock and
Roll Cleopatra (comp. of recordings 1977-?). I have not listened to this
stuff for YEARS. After several listenings to "Wonder Woman," "Out of
Control," "Mean Muthafuckin Man" and "Fuck Off" I am cannot get enough
of that raw transgender twang!

Thank you. Thank you very much.

Where can I find it. The Elevators being on WHERE THE ACTION IS

It's a confirm. IRS's demise was reported in the trades a couple of weeks
ago.

Me too.

Members of Monster Magnet and Soundgarden did a one-off single as
the Wellwater Conspiracy covering Japanese Groups Sounds songs like
"Yata Bati Yi" in an beatles-meet-mudhoney sort of style.

Incidentally, the correct title of that song is "Nareba Ii". It was
mistitled on that Italian GS comp LP (either "Monster a Go Go" or "Big
Lizard Stomp" - I can't remember which one!).

I couldn't resist responding to this request for info on the Cynics, since I
was the drummer on the first two LPs and the first four or five singles.

We've probably met! Back around 1987 or so, the Cynics played with my
old band, the Seen, at the Scorpion in State College, Pennsylvania. You
        guys were LOUD!

BTW, some of you may be familiar with the Seen - we were included on two
mid-'80s comps, Voxx' "Battle of the Garages Vol. 2" ('Jealous Girl')
and Glitterhouse's "Declaration of Fuzz" ('Hey Joe!'), as well as
releasing a single on Paradox ('When I Was Young'/'Stopping On Go!') and
an album on Red Dog called "Under the Sun/In the Rain". Anybody heard
these records? I didn't think so!

According to my buddy who runs the Texas Music Office (he also spent 3
years working closely with Roky E.), there were 3 TV appearances for the
Elevators. He has a copy of the American Bandstand gig, says that the
Where the Action Is appearance is rare and even he has never seen it and he
doesn't know anyone who has it, and the 3rd appearance is non-existant on
tape to the best of his knowledge. So if someone has these, you've got a
goldmine that even Roky can't produce.

Hey, record-collector-with-killer-HiFi types! I have a question for you.
Is it common for a person who has never owned a CD player worth over 250
bucks to notice all kinds of drop-outs and imperfections when listening
to a 1000+ dollar CD player for the first time? It seems like every CD
is badly flawed. And then when I listen on the old CD player, I can hear
the drop-out, but very subtly compared to the expensive deck.

So is this a damaged CD player, or is this par for the course? Is a
high(er) end CD player just that much more sensitive? Does this mean I
have to get rid of all my CDs and buy only 24k golds? :(

I have seen two clips of the 13th Floor Elevators from mid-60s TV. One
has them by a pool doing "Miss Me" which I believe is "Where the Action
Is" (lip-sync, of course) and the other is also "Miss Me" sync-ed
outdoors with I believe some sort of shrubbery or trees behind them.
It's been several years, but I saw them on the same tape so I know there
were two discrete clips. A pal of mine has this material on Beta tape
and promised to make me a dub but hasn't gotten a VHS deck yet. He also
has clips of ? and the Mysterians from "Action," one of "96 Tears" on a
flatbed truck outdoors, one indoors I recall, doing "I Need Somebody." We
actually showed these clips to ? himself and Bobby Balderrama (Mysterians
guitarist) who hadn't ever seen them--they were blown away!

Someone wrote that the Elevators only were on TV 3 times, but this must
be wrong, as the Sundazed CD ("Texas Twisted") has them on at least 2
occasions (sorry, don't have it here to check) live on TV, which would
make at least 4 dates added to the two clips I saw. Didn't someone say
earlier that they were on Ed Sullivan? If so, that tape ought to exist
(and might be LIVE!). Anyone know if they were on Ed S.?

Frank
