I have the 13th Floor Elevators "Where The Action Is" TV appearance of
"You're Gonna Miss Me". I don't think it is that rare. I see it listed on

many video lists I get in the mail. It is definitely lip synch, just like

all other Dick Clark hosted shows.

I feel kinda privileged because I too have seen the "pool" appearance of
the 13th Floor Elevators, but I didn't know where the clip was from. Saw
it at a party on Long Island about 10 years ago, hosted by a guy named
John Battaglia (who played in a bunch of garage bands around NYC,
including the Phase One Psychotics). If someone knows him, say hello
and ask him about the clip!! Maybe Blair knows where to find 'im.

Glenn Sadin pointed out that his band, The Seen, put out a few mid-80's
releases and I can vouch that this is pretty good stuff!! Nice melodic pop
with a hint of Byrds-folk thrown in. (BTW, Glenn's home demos are even
cooler!)

And I'll add my two cents on the Cynics, who were a very cool band on
the garage scene. Sorry to hear they've packed it in. I used to pal
around with The Secret Service and they played with The Cynics a
couple of times. They were cool people to hang with and had a very
exciting live show.

Be seeing you,
Bill

Could it not be that the 2 appearances on Sundazed to which you are
referring are the same 2 appearances that we have been discussing which
still only makes 2 TV appearances plus the elusive third appearance
somewhere else? I'd be interested in knowing what those 2 appearances
were on Sundazed.
Thanks, Erica

I have seen two clips of the 13th Floor Elevators from mid-60s TV. One has
them by a pool doing "Miss Me" which I believe is "Where the Action Is"
(lip-sync, of course) and the other is also "Miss Me" sync-ed outdoors .....
It's been several years, but I saw them on the same tape so I know there
were two discrete clips. ................
Someone wrote that the Elevators only were on TV 3 times, but this must be
wrong, as the Sundazed CD ("Texas Twisted") has them on at least 2
occasions (sorry, don't have it here to check) live on TV, which would make
at least 4 dates added to the two clips I saw. Didn't someone say earlier
that they were on Ed Sullivan? If so, that tape ought to exist (and might be

what's rare, what ain't, imho

1) The Where the Action is with the 13th Floor Elevators really is not
rare at all... I got a 3rd or 4th generation dub which means the people
with the tape have grown exponentially. (Mr. Cashin, email me)
However, the *second* Action appearance (not the pool) I have never
seen even mentioned...

what I find rare are episodes of bandstand and Action that only exist in
Dick Clark's archive... or better yet episodes of TV shows where the
lighting technician takes home a film (kinescope) copy for the kids and
then the tv station destroys their film library... like the tape of Milt Grant's
show (Milt payola-d Link Wray into including him on writing credits of
Rumble) which only turned up at a christmas party (alerting the poor
crew to the sad realization that everything else was destroyed...)

If anyone ever finds copies of Washington, DC's "Wing Ding" let me
know... I've talked to both hosts, I've talked to people from the British
Walkers, etc... they don't even have access to *photos* of their
appearances, let alone film or video... but that was more of a weak, lets
play the new beatles video, lets get some dj to spin records thing...
(however, I've heard rumors that the Washington Urban League had a
monster Teenarama Dance Party with all the soul stars of the day)

oh, as far as the appearances, did you know the 13th floor elevators
and ? Mark and the Mysterians appeared on back-to-back episodes of
Action? Friday afternoon with the elevators then wait until school's over
monday to catch Q... Also, to place some of the clips you see, Action
appearances are most often oustide, often at amusement parks, etc.
Bandstand appearances are indoors usually with cuts to he audience.
They're both lip syncs... I think only 2 episodes of Malibu U exist in
collector's hands, they take place, duh, at the beach... I think that's Dick
Clark's summer 1967 Action replacement, but I forget... someday I'll write
this all down.

The original is including Monster a Go Go and another bootleg Sixties Japanese
Psych Sampler(out of order now, the song title is written Anything you want).

Incidentally, the correct title of that song is "Nareba Ii". It was
mistitled on that Italian GS comp LP (either "Monster a Go Go" or "Big
Lizard Stomp" - I can't remember which one!).

I have my Sundazed cd here now. There is audio from 2 different appearances
on "Sump'N Else" from WFFA-TV Channel 3 in Dallas. There are 10 cuts
total drawn from TV broadcasts on 3/25/66 and 5/9/66. This music is all
LIVE (not lipsync) and there is no video left--the audio was dubbed off
the video tape and that was later erased and reused. The appearances on
"Where the Action Is" and/or "Bandstand" were lipsync performances, so
this is definitely different from that.

Two questions:

1) Can anyone confirm the rumor I heard that the Elevators were on Ed
Sullivan? (& is there some source that would list the performers on this
show over the years? I know Dick Dale was on, for one.)

2) Since the Elevators' audio perfs. were dubbed off at the time to be
saved, were other cool groups' music saved in this way? I have never
heard anyone mention other material from "Sump'N Else" that got saved.

IRS is no more they closed up shop two weeks ago. By the way does anybody
know if Twin Tone is still a going concern? I dream of finding a copy of the
Suicide Commandos live album one day.
