Lisa mentioned a club named Velvet Elvis and that reminded me of the
band by the same name that put out a CD on Enigma in the late 80's. I
think they were from Kentucky. It wasn't the rockin'est thing around, but
I thought they had some decent songs. Anyone know if they had a
second album and/or what happened to the band? Just wonderin'.

Thanks - be seeing you,
Bill

IRS was absorbed by EMI, who had been keeping the label afloat for the
last couple of years. Back catalog has been swallowed up by EMI, and
a friend of mine who has reason to know, suspects that unless artists
want to license the masters for exoribtant rates, or unless the repressings
would move a lot of units in a fairly short time (c.f. REM, etc.) then
you shouldn't be holding your breath for a flood of repressings from
any particular band.

But then IRS hasn't been a very good label since about 1988 or so, maybe
even earlier.

True, but wouldn't a retrospective box set (similar to, say, the Stiff
Records box set) be a wonderful thing? I still have fond memories of the
Best of IRS vols. 2&3.

The Born Bad liner notes state that The Phantom, of "Love Me" fame, appeared
on the Ed Sullivan show in the early sixties. He was on a major label, but
it seems unlikely... Can anyone confirm that this actually happend?
