Apologies to those of you who have been trying to reach the
Outsiders Touch without success recently. Unfortunately the
Italian ISP where the pages sit went bust about one month ago.
As soon as the new URL is available it will be posted.

A couple of weeks ago someone asked about "Turban Renewal," the
Sam the Sham tribute CD on Norton Records. It's available from
Atomic Beat Records in L.A. (310) 556-1144. <ATOMICBEAT@aol.com>

Okay, here's something that maybe some can answer. Howcome, on some
CD's where they've transfered from old analog tapes, there is also a
"screeching" background noise? I have A barraudas CD that contains
their first single, which I also have. The Cd version has kind of a
"screech" or "squeal" behing it, that is not eveident on the 45. It
happens on al the CD decks I've played it on, and only on the two songs
from the 45/ Is it a transfer problem or something?

I've never experienced this problem. RE: the Barracudas CD, I
would guess that the master tape has the squeal, but it was not
audible on the vinyl pressings because vinyl is more forgiving
        than CDs are.

Unfortunately, the disc all the symptoms of the defective Philips CD. When I talked with Philips, they confirmed that
this was the symptom. Most of the disc can be found on the Rhino compilation "Best of the Chocolate Watchband".

I checked my copy of Chocolate Watchband's 44 and on the label side the = silver has turned sepia/rusty colour
around the inside and outside = edges. Is this the dreaded rot? I cannot see a manufacturer. There is a = bit about it
in this months Record Collector. The playing sides looks = and plays o.k. When I got it on disc I gave the vinyl copy
to a friend.
This is the only problem I have found so far - I was hoping they would = at least last me out!

I have got the Stillroven CD on order, Sunny Day is one of my all time = faves, is it good?

Just so you know, this is yet another one of those "I'm going to be in
place X during time N - what's to see and do?" mega-crossposts.

I'm going to be in NYC from August 17-20 and am wondering if there is
anything noteworthy going on musicwise. Also, can anyone recommend some
interesting record stores and guitar shops that aren't outrageously
expensive and doesn't duplicate what any good store in L.A. would have
already, but would have enough "weird stuff" to make the visit interesting?

In other words, I'd rather get my hands dirty pawing though stacks of
obscure Turkish drone-surf sound effects records and rooting through boxes
of unknown effects pedals than see $60 copies of the Stereolab/Tortoise 7"
and $500 Clyde McCoy wah-wahs under glass.

Many thanks in advance,
Chris

ObDrone: Found a copy of the Harmony Rockets CD for $4 and have been liking
it way more than any of the Mercury Rev albums combined.

ObSound-L: Any early word on how the Alesis Nanoverb stacks up against
other digital 'verbs? I'm only really interested in the reverb and don't
need any delay, et. al.
