  Ventures' Drummer Mel Taylor Dies
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Los Angeles) -- A drummer for the '60s surf-rock band The Ventures has
died.
The group's record label G-N-P Crescendo Records says Mel Taylor was 62 and
died Sunday of lung cancer and heart failure.
Taylor was The Ventures' second drummer and joined the band in 1961. He was
part of the line-up that recorded the hits ``Walk Don't Run '64'' and the
theme from T-V's ``Hawaii Five-Oh.''
Funeral services are scheduled for tomorrow in Los Angeles.

speakin of kiss...a few years ago i met a real maniac in cinncinatti, ohio.
this guy was well into his 40's and he told me of one of gene simmons' early
60's garage bands, the kissers? i think that was the name but anyway, his
point was that gene is real old and had many combos throughout the 60's. this
would make sense but does anyone know or care of these early kiss
precursors?? love, todddamn
