Sick of the Ramones? Never! Yeah, things got tired in the mid 80's....but
ya have to admit, "Acid Eaters" is the "Sgt. Pepper" of the nineties.

Besides, the Ramones cured me of a bad case of hives back in the
summer of 79. A fine bunch of lads they are.

.... Am i the only one kinda' of sick of the Ramones in general, cause so
many other bands do the same thing much better and in a much more
acceptable (read independent) way?

Not to mention "Adios Amigos" and their recording of "Spiderman." As the
Mighty said in "I Gotta Right:" "Yee-ow!" I hope they're at it for
another 20 years (Christ, listen to what Pops Jagger and band have
sounded like since 78... ).

And oh, yeah, come to think of it, me blisters dried up after catching
them at the Bayou on the Animal Boy tour. It's the Lord's work they're
up to.

Hey, one thing i forgot to mention:
i just picked up the ramones tribute/homage thing by the Hanson Brothers =

the mock Road to Ruin cover). It is really great - it compares to road =
to ruin the way the Riverdales record compares to the first ramones =
record - not really unique, but a faithful tribute w/ really catchy =

here here! how could anyone every tire of the ramones? their first 4 =

Go Lil' Camaro Go w/ debbie harry rocks!).

i saw them for the 5th time a year ago in las vegas and was admittedly =

Dear Brendan,
Are you in Australia? Well, great to hear from you! I think
Australia has some fabulous garage/psych groups, especially in it's
"recent' hitory, like The Stems, Bo-Weevils, Tyrnaround, etc. I tried to
get most of them in my book, "The Knights Of Fuzz." There are also a
number of rare 1980s/90s Australian garage records that I'm still looking
for (ever hear the Sleeves 45? That's one I'd love, amond many!)...
There are plenty of distribution contact addresses and phone #s
at the book's web site, mostly for North America. The contact info for
Borderline is also there, but they haven't gotten their e-mail up yet. (I
got on-line only two days ago!).
The book just came out, so I can't imagine that it is in
Australia yet, but Borderline assures me that they have global
distribution in place, and sell regularly to Australia.
Give me a holler if you have any trouble at all in finding the
book. I'll be glad to help if I can!

All the best!

> Dear Pete,
Thanks for writing! Congratulations on the jukebox -- A vintage
jukebox is one of my absolute all time wishes! I can imagine loading up
all my favorite 45s for a party and spinning away. Super cool!
Yeah, there can be friction among bands, but I'm glad that
with a little communication (after "the dust settles") we can realize
that we're all on the "same side" -- cool music and bands! And I'll say
it once again: ALL the bands at Treblefest played great!!! What a lineup!
Some of the problem, I think, can come from some of these
newsgroups postings, where sometimes wild accusations and personal
attacks can go on without opposition. I know I was a target from a few
mean-spirited folks in the past because I wasn't "around" online, so
there was no "other side to the story."
I'm happy I'm now able to start up a positive line of
communication with all kinds of real music fans -- like you!
	Thanks again for writing!

Sincerely,

Timothy Gassen

Subject: Hello!

Dear Steve,
Thank you for your posting to the Bomp list. It brings much of
this discussion into clarity, and brings up the focus of why we care so
much about all of this: the music!
You're correct, I have been involved in this "scene" for a long
time, and I'll be making the music and writing about it for as long as I
live, I hope! But I don't see myself as an "elder statesman," just a
devoted fan with a lot of fire, recording and touring left in me. I
welcome the bands just starting out or who have been around for only a
couple years -- they're our hope for carrying-on this garage/psych
monster!
End note to all readers about my piece from the Arizona Daily
Star: I work very hard as a professional writer, so pardon me if I object
when that work is taken, reproduced, altered and mis-represented without
permission.
So enough about that! I hope to hear from you again soon, and
your comments are always welcome in my "house of fuzz!"

Sincerely,

Timothy Gassen

     4. The Art Collection(I Go to School/Morning)

The Art Collection is the band that evolved into Powder, who we had
discussed here a few months ago. The A-side of this single is killer - a
it sounds almost exactly like the "I'm A Boy"-era Who. The flip is a
slower tune, also good, but not as strong as the A-side. Both tracks are
also available on the CD version of "Biff! Bang! POWDER" on Distortions
        Records (which I highly recommend).

Subject: Knights Of Fuzz book

Hello Blair!
Yeah, I know that my new book ("The Knights Of Fuzz") will be
expensive here in the U.S. It's expensive enough to print full-color in
the U.K., but then when shipping charges to the U.S. are added on top of
that, it can get pretty steep.(This book weighs a ton!)
Still, I think that Borderline did a great job with the printing,
and I can only hope that readers will appreciate that the price tag also
reflects years upon years of hard work by all involved.
There's a long list of "thank-yous" on the book's inside cover,
but I'll add another small humble "thanks" now to everyone who
contributed to this book. So many sincere, kind music fans helped in a
million different ways!
It was also good meeting you at Treblefest. I really did have a
blast, and I look forward to getting to know you better (electronically,
at least)!
Please call on me if I can be of any assistance with anything at
all. I'll do my best to help!

Sincerely,

Hello Bob!
Thanks so much for the kind note! I'm glad that Midnight already
has the book in stock -- I've been inundated with requests for it
already, and it's good to hear that people in the U.S. will be able to
find it quickly. I welcome your comments about the book, once you get a
look at it. Hundreds of fans sent me info and stuff for the book, and I
hope I can correct and add to it (for the next edition) with the help of
folks like you!
I'll pass along the kind comments about The Marshmallow Overcoat
to my bandmates. Your type of positive feedback really means a lot to us!
Did you check out the band's page, as part of the "Knights Of Fuzz" web
site?
Oh, and I've been asked quite a bit who the band is on the front
cover of the book. It's one of my all-time faves: The Gruesomes!
I hope to hear from you again. And remember a thumbnail guide to
garage music that a friend once told me: "No fuzz -- No good!"

Sincerely,

Timothy Gassen

Subject: Re: Troublefest

I'd hoped to lay this subject to rest yesterday when I explained to Tim
that it wasn't my intention to make personal attacks when I brought
Treblefest up, and I apologized for repeating a possibly apocryphal
remark that I got second-hand regarding his band's performance there. In
light of Tim's hope that "we can all get along," I'd hoped that Tim would
accept my explanation and you long-suffering list subscribers could be
spared this. Instead, he continues to call me (no longer by name, but I
can't imagine who else he's talking about) mean-spirited and a liar.
Regarding my posting your article to the list: This wasn't done for
financial gain, I gave you credit for writing it, and only posted it
when several people asked me to. Libraries photo-copy articles for their
patrons all the time - they don't need permission from the author. If you
didn't want anyone to read it, you shouldn't have submitted it to the
daily paper for publication. Also, you didn't express these moral qualms
regarding copyright infringement when you used to make tapes for me. How
is that any different?
You claim your piece was "altered" and "mis-represented." Please provide
specifics. As you've only been on the list two days, I wonder if you've
even seen what I posted. Again, it was the entire main article, verbatim,
with no comments of my own interjected. Tell you what - I'll scan the
article and post it, sidebar column, pictures and all, so everyone can
see it in "context." I'm sure you'd be happy to give permission for this
to be done, so everyone is perfectly clear as to what you wrote.
Regarding my attacking you personally while you weren't online to
respond: I have no way of knowing who's online and who isn't. Everything
I posted was written with the knowledge that anyone might be reading it.
Again, aside from the questionable quote (FOR WHICH I'VE APOLOGIZED!) I'm
not sure what attacks you're referring to. Again, perhaps you would be so
good as to provide specifics?
I did point out that much of your article seemed to dwell on the
attitudes of other bands, while ignoring their music. To me, and to many
of those who read it here, the article seemed negative and somewhat
vindictive. Please don't confuse this with our saying that YOU are a
negative and vindictive person. It was meant as a criticism of your
article.
So, I hope you will either provide specifics as to how I attacked you
and altered your work, OR that you will accept my explanation of how all
this got started, and we can bury the hatchet.

And if I ever ask anyone for their impressions of next year's
Treblefest, someone please give me a swift wake-up kick!

Sincerely,
Menachem
