I just recieved a tape in the mail of the Rattles, a German beat group that
lasted from the early 60s to late 70s. Very Merseybeat-esque, with just a
touch of German accent.

I understand there were a lot of German beat/r&b groups in the 60s,
competing with the various English groups that were playing the clubs in
Hamburg and elsewhere. Can anyone tell me about some of the ones that might
be worth checking into? I notice the mail order places like Midnight
usually have a lot of German comps of groups like this.

Looking at the playlists various people have been posting on the Bomp list
lately, I can't help but think that I either started collecting all my
garage, psych, Merseybeat, rockabilly, etc. records and CDs way too late,
or else I was into college radio way too early!

In my fourth year of college, living on the campus of Ohio U. I worked on a
very small station (broadcast range: about 3 or 4 buildings...) In the
daytime, I did the news and weather, but on Wednesdays and Fridays from
11-midnight, I had a music show I called "In the Midnight Hour." I mostly
played classic rock and older pop, usually from the stacks of old vinyl
that none of the other deejays ever used. It was mostly the better known
groups, little in the way of garage or psych. I also used to raid my
neighbor's CD collection for the Beatles, Byrds, Hendrix, etc. Of course I
had little radio experience, so I'm sure if anyone tuned into my show it
was just to see how much dead airspace I'd inadvertently cause for one
reason or another, or catch some other goof up.

Now that I have about 150 CDs, and countless LPs and 45s, covering a range
of musical styles from the 50s through the 70s, I'm wishing I was still
there. But now that there's a perfectly healthy garage/retro scene in the
area, I'm sure someone up there is doing it...

Last winter I found in a free bin an lp by Sheena and the
Rokkets, a late 70s/early 80s Japanese new wave band. I
think the record was on A&M. Does anyone else have it?

Also, does anyone have the Jabbers lp, and could you tape
it for me? The Jabbers were G.G. Allin's band from (I
think) 76-80, BEFORE he became horrifyingly raunchy and
starting writing songs about 10 year olds. An example of
a Jabbers lyric:

"We gonna have a wild wild party
maybe break out a bottle of whiskey too"
(from "I Need Adventure")

OOOOHH, G.G. YOU REBEL!!!!

I have been looking pretty much all over for this record.
Some of the stuff was re-released on cd, but with other
G.G. stuff that I really don't ever want to hear again.
(I had enough of that from the hardcore boys in high school.)

Thanks

I think the Sheena and the Rokkets lp came out around the same time as the
Plastics, who sounded a lot like a
B-52's/Talking Heads melange.

I remember hearing a Japanese band on Rodney on ROQ, Pasadena, CA, circa 1983,
covering Stiff Little Fingers' "Suspect Device" and whoa nellie, did it smoke!
Hitomi, do you have some info about late 70s/early 80s Japanese new wave bands?

Hey all--

Just got some info on the Monks cd mentioned here awhile back.
It will have the complete album, two non-lp single sides, one live track
and two demos.

Oh hell, here's the complete track listing:

	Monk Time
	Shut Up
Boys Are Boys And Girls Are Choice
	Higgle-dy-Piggle-dy
	I Hate You
	Oh, How To Do Now
	Complication
	We Do Wie Du
	Drunken Maria
	Love Came Tumblin' Down
	Blast Off!
	That's My Girl
	I Can't Get Over You
	Cuckoo
	Love Can Tame The Wild
He Went Down To The Sea
	Monk Chant (Live--1966)
	I Hate You (Demo--1965)
Oh, How To Do Now (Demo--1965)

It also includes photographs and an 6,000 word history featuring
interviews with the band members by MIKE STAX.

All of this courtesy of the Infinite Zero/American record label. Oh
yeah, street date in the U.S. is supposedly February 11th.

And what's really scary is that even though I have the Repertoire issue,
I'll be obsessing about it too because of a mere three songs that the
Repertoire issue doesn't have.

                Monk Chant (Live--1966)
	I Hate You (Demo--1965)
Oh, How To Do Now (Demo--1965)

The repertoire issue has sleeve shots of the 45's, uses the LP artwork and
has incorrect liners that are corrected when you read "Black Monk Time", but
three lousy tracks and I'm gonna drop another $15 on a reissue. Sigh.

I posted the following question the other day and got no reply. Did
y'all not read it or maybe you don't care about trivia stuff like this:

Years ago, while watching Nick at Night, I saw an episode of "Gidget"
where she
falls for a guitar-weilding, denim-clad beatnick/badboy with a
motorcylce. He's a rebel, and during the show he serenades Gidget with
an acoustic version of the song "Blow Your Mind", by (I don't remember
the name o' the '60 garage groop)..."Our hair's too long, our music's
wrong, and
we're too immature..." I couldn't believe it! Has anyone seen this
episode? Who played the beatnick/badboy and how did they ever decide to
use that song? Is the actor in question a member of the band that wrote
the song?

Please let me know if you have any information.
Thanx

ANOTHER SAD FAREWELL....Randy California, guitarist for the 60s/70s
California band Spirit, has been reported missing and presumed drowned
in Molokai, HI on Friday, January 3. Eyewitnesses said California, whose
birth name is Randy Wolfe, jumped in the water and saved the life of his
12-year old son by pushing him out of the undertow area, unfortunately
he was subsequently dragged under by the same tide. California is best
known for his work with the band Spirit, but he had also played with
talents like Hendrix. He will be missed.

Maybe some of the "video" footage will get released and MTV
can have it as a "buzz clip" -- "here's my new favorite band,
the Monks". Or a new video can be made for the song.

At least now it'll be easy for me to find.

This was "The California Kid" (1974), also with Vic Morrow, Michelle
Phillips (wonder if she 'did' Martin?) and Nick Nolte (!). I remember
this because one of the hot rod magazines I used to read in Jr. High

played the part that you ascribe to Sarandon... she's not listed in the
