I'm sure you've gotten many requests already, but please remove our
friend the asswipe ( rht@HK.Super.NET) from this list. He/she is not
nice and not playing by the rules.

Subject: Estrus benefits/tribute LP

Okay, last night at practice a couple of things were brought up
regarding Estrus that I wanted to lay on you all. First, I heard that
there's an Estrus or Monomen tribute LP (can't remember which) in the works
with a bunch of big major label-type bands like White Zombie and shit.
Apparently, there's alot of bands like that that are Estrus freaks, and they
want to help out. Anybody know anything about that?
Secondly, I saw on the Estrus page that there's all sorts of benefit
shows being set up around the country. Upon mentioning that we should set
one up, I was presented with this thought: Maybe Crider doesn't want all
this money pouring in for fear of tax troubles. "Estrus is not UNICEF," I
was told. Can anybody shed some light on this issue for me? I would gladly
set up a benefit if I knew for a fact that it was cool. Hell, in
Bloomington/Normal, we could have an all ages show featuring the four
garage/punk bands that make up the scene and easily pull in a grand.
Somebody give me the definitive word, and I'll set one up. Something tells
me that if there's mention of benefits on the Estrus page, Dave can't be too
opposed to the idea. Am I right?
        T.J.

                                                                     .

...I'll be shoppin'" - Cher(The Disco Years)

This is what I found:

Escape-ism(Parts 1,2 and 3) - James Brown(People) - The thoughtful and
moving lyrics - "We got to take it on the lam. Say what, Fred?" do not
oversahdow the wonderful groove.

Christmas Comes But Once a Year - Amos Milburn/Please come Home for
Christmas - Charles Brown (King) - A perfectly good 45 ruined by the fact
that the hole is so off-center, the song plays at 42-47 RPM. Boo hoo.

Camaro - The Cyrkle/SS 396 - Paul Revere and the Raiders - This was a
special promo, "Created Exclusively for Chevrolet Dealers". These would
both qualify for the cool car songs thread of a while back. Easily worth a
dollar!

Nobody Loves Me!/ Strawberry Sunday - The Ides of March(Kapp) Good songs,
no "Roller Coaster"; in future must remember that they earlier material was
on Parrot. Ballad (with the horns signaling the portent of "Vehicle" the
following year)/ Psych.

Niki Hoeky/Let the Water Run Down - P.J. Proby(UA) - Here is an odd
reissue. A flip from a different single("That Means a Lot")? Worked for
me, because the flip is what I wanted anyway!

LP - Kaleidoscope Presents: The Exploding Underground Compilation.

I bought this because it had two Sick Rose songs on it ("Yeah" and "Mr.
Nobody"), however, when I got it home, I realized it had The Marshmallow
Overcoat(hello Timothy Gassen) and THREE cuts from people in Tampa (hello
Laura Taylor), Bill Bechtel, Robert Wegmann and the Immediates. Favorite
Band name on the compilation: The Blue Up?, to which I say (!). Quite a
good compilation from stem to stern; it was nice to have a beat version of
Eddie Holland's "Leavin' Here"( The Headless Horsemen) in which all of the
instruments are in tune (The Birds' bassist didn't tune his A string.
Harrumph.). Also features the Cheepskates, The Birdmen of Alkatraz, the
Projectiles, the 27 Various, The Mad Violets, The Blacklight
Chameleons(Hello myself! They are from NYC, I am from Rockland County) and
the Green Today.

How did I get all of this? An elderly man came up to me and said that he
could make the most wonderful soup with only a nail...

I got to take it on the lam,
Brian Phillips

I just want to be sure. . . am I an asswipe or are the people that run this
list the asswipes? I do wipe my ass, but the only other ass I could
invision myself wiping would be that of a child (I don't have one of my
own, but have friends that do). Also, if I am a spammer, should I put that
on my resume? I don't have my internet insults for idiots book with me, so
perhaps someone could refresh me.
There was actually a reason for me writing, I was wondering why I no longer
get a listing at the begining of my digest. It was handy.

How do I get there?

I'm with you on this, while I agree with the tragedy of an independent
label suffering like Estrus has, there's more important issues out there
in which people's lives are at stake. AIDS, homelessness, etc. all seem
more important to me than the resources lost in the fire. I'm not saying
that it's wrong for people to be helping out, but when you see how music
can bring people together to come to the aid of someone who needs it, ya'
gotta' wonder about the people who only want to help out when it's
something like this.

Flames Welcome (and expected)!
