it isn't good, it's just that the rerelease cuts out half of the
original album! And some of my fave songs are on that half.>>

Maybe you didn't notice that those "fave songs" are otherwise available
in more legitimate editions, which didn't exist when the original vinyl
compilation came out.

Yeah, I realize that since Ear Piercing Punk came out that some of the
songs have appeared on other comps and legit reissues, but then why
include "Enough," "Ain't No Use To Me" and "Don't Crowd Me"? These are
all on other comps, and in the case of The Ugly Ducklings, available
from the mastertape on a legit comp. of their stuff. And "Primitive" is
on tons of other comps! Yet, I have yet to find Dean Carter's psycho
version of "Jailhouse Rock" on anything else bu the vinyl EPP.
Anyways, don't get me wrong, I wasn't slagging the new version off -
it's got some great other stuff not on the original (or other comps for
that matter), it's just gthat after years of playing the record I got
so used to the original set of songs.

Here's the exercice for today...what would be the others "way out" GB 60s
poppsy opus to include to the list below ?:

1- The Zombies "Odessey and Oracle"
2- The Beatles "Sgt Pepper..."
3- Skip Bifferty S/T
4- July S/T
5- The Orange Bicycle " Let's take a trip on the ...." ( comp )
6- ?
7- ?

There must be plenty of others jewels in the same vein that I've never
heard...What are your propositions ? I was told that the Apple album " An
Apple a Day" could be included..

It's on one of the Best of Pebbles, which are not exacly falling out of
trees. If you want, I'll look up exactly which volume it's on when I get
home...

I know they're BIG influences in FRIENDS OF DEAN MARTINEZ...which, by the
way, I saw last week. I didn't post a review, because it was
essentially the same(*great*) stuff as last time. And for you
BOMP!-types, the drummer and guitar-player/lead singer from the
Minstrels accompanied them this time. All I can say, though, and
Brother Cleve and The Millionaire will disagree, because they were so
well-received in Tampa, that THIS TOWN SUCKS!!! FRIENDS put on a fine,
sublime show...and people treated it like BACKGROUND music...This one
lame-a--s chick said to my brother, "This is *so* boring, it's like a
cross between Pink Floyd and 'lounge'<like she knows that is___> music."
My brother's snappy retort, was:
"THIS IS THE BEST F--KING THING I'VE EVER HEARD!"
Any hyperbole aside, the bimbette deserved it...

Hi Laura, I saw the Monkees documentary, and can comment on it. I saw the
Disney documentary and for someone who didn't have a good understanding of
the Monkees phenomenon, it was pretty good. For someone like me, who is a
big fan, it wasn't so good. They spent way too much time showing complete
videos from the TV show, and hardly any time on what happened since HEAD.
The Monkees just released their first album of all new material in 26 years
("Justus"), but it barely received any time in the show. Supposedly, Rhino
is considering releasing it as a home video with additional footage. Much
more was originally planned, but Disney cut it way back (from 2 hours is
what I heard).

ABC TV is planning on airing a different Monkees documentary on February
17th. There should be a big write-up in that week's TV Guide too

It also just appeared on Pebbles CD #6, I'm sure the major reason it
was left off of the EEP CD.

I had two separate reactions to the documentary. As a fan who was there
at the time, I was sad that I wasn't seeing too much that I hadn't already
seen. As a father with two little girls who have recently become Monkees
freaks, I was thrilled with the show. They got a very good overview. It
"brought them up to speed," so to speak. And really, it was fun to see it
all again anyway. But I do wish somebody would actually dig a bit.

I gave Justus a good review in Cosmik, but I'm aware I MAY have liked it
because I'm sentimental about The Monkees. I actually got e-mail from
somebody who bought it on my recommendation and hated it. "They SUCK!
What, are you WORKING for them?" hahaha. No, ma'am, just doing the
Lord's work...

Lisa Lindstrom mentioned a comp. of Ugly Ducklings stuff - can anyone tell
me the title of that comp and what label its on?

Also, Dean Carter's 'Jailhouse Rock' is available on "Born Bad vol. 6". The
Cramps also covered it for "The Last Temptation of Elvis" tribute LP, and
that version appears as the B-side to some of their "Stay Sick"-era singles.
