Check out Kim Cooper's comments on the show on the banana-truffle
newsgroup. I think they some it up pretty good. jc

Hey All,

I just so happen to be a commercial music producer for a large New
York ad agency, and I've met, on occasion, a few folks from famous
60's groups. Peppy Castro is a session guitarist with whom I've
worked before, and the guys from the Cyrkle, Dawes and Danneman,
composed jingles very successfully for a long time. It was fun to
hear his stories about playing with the Beatles. Joey Levine, who
wrote those Banana Splits songs and Archies tunes, owns one of the
biggest commercial studios in the country, called Crushing. Mike
Brown from the Left Banke has worked on stuff for us before and I've
been told he's working on songs with his wife at the moment. Their
commercials for Hertz, Toni and Coke are my favorites from the
sixties, along with the American Breed and Boyce and Hart's Coke
spots. Has anyone on this list heard of Sasha Borland? He did a
novelty album in the 60's called "The Nutty Squirrels?" He did a
bunch of great commercials and a few that were released as singles.
I have one by a studio group called the Lively Set doing a song
called "There's Nothing Like Coffee" which is totally ridiculous. I
love the Tee Vee Tunes Commercials record. I think there should be
more of them. There were a series of promotional 10 inch records
made of all those Coke spots. I wonder if they're worth anything.

Adios,
Keith.

Does anyone know if the One Way reissue of the Nashville Teens
"Tobacco Road" album has come out yet? And why has my local store not
received any word about the Monks CD?

I see they are both listed in the latest Collector's Choice
catalog. 1-800-923-1122. Order once and you'll get catalogs for
          the rest of your life.

those were bootlegged as a CD called "Things Go Better With Coke", about 60 of those spots, though the track listing is a bit skewed as it lists 2 spots from Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell that actually aren't on the CD. Still, the Troggs, Moody Blues, Jay and the Americans, etc etc etc. Fun! Bonus track at the end of the CD is a Pepsi commercial!

Well, I'm very happy that the song got an Oscar nomination. But I think
there were at least a couple categories the _movie_ could have been
nominated for! That was a great movie, which the music only served to
complement. Surely, it could have gotten nominated for original screenplay.
Of course, then the obvious problem would be giving Tom Hanks yet _another_
Oscar! But, dammit, he deserves it this time!

Oh well, here's hoping the song makes it!

The American Breed's Coke ad is on the "Oh Yeah! - Dunwich
Records Story" CD, but the prize goes to H.P Lovecraft's Ban
          Roll-on spot. Those hippies.

Adam's the songwriter, so that would be logical. But then my mind flashes to
ANN REINKING singing "Against All Odds" as Phil Collins sat squirming in the
audience.

Now I'm sure Ann's a nice person, and I normally get pretty bored by Phil
Collins, but that was a great song and he was certainly at the peak of his
popularity. So what the &^%$ ?

The cd release of the Yardbirds' Little Games features an English
desert/breakfast mush (product name eludes)plug by the lads to the tune
of Over Under Sideways Down. Thankfully, it's the last track on the
disk.

I'll second that motion. Let the world be fully exposed to Adam S.

I would drop to the floor and need to be revived by my wife if this song
surpasses the Andrew Lloyd Webber mafia.

Maybe they'll get Marshall Crenshaw to sing it.
