This is how my day is going. I:
1. Just found out Moe Tucker is coming to Tampa
2. Just called her up at her Douglas, GA home...and will interview her

tomorrow..."after hours" that is...
Stickin' w/u,
Lounge Laura
p-s....have seen her a few times...definetly a must for Velvets
fans...am
also working on a John Cale interview...he comes to Tampa a few days
prior! :)

Hey Laura,

Have you heard Magnet yet? Moe sent us a pre-release CD last week or so
of her new band called Magnet, and it's really cool. She only sings two
tunes, but as the full-time drummer, she plays drusm on the whole
thing. The Cd is called "Don't Be A Penguin."

I believe those were called "El-cassette" decks, and were around for
about a year in the late 70s sometime. They were supposed to be the
embodiment of the best of both worlds between cassettes and
reel-to-reel, but they never took off because people found the tapes too
bulky, and because there was never a commensurate increase in sound
quality.

Thank you for your kind sweet words Laura!!!! I must admit, Mick and I looked
quite snazzy that evening, as did pretty much everyone (including Laura and
her man!) at this soiree.

I have to say about Mr. Mick Crowley: he could write the book on sweetness!
My only complaint about his behavior as a houseguest is that he smokes.
Everyone in Boston who met him absolutely loved him.

As far as the Lyres show goes: It was great!!! The 150-capacity club was
packed! Mr. Connelly and Co. put on the usual incredible show, but did not do
an encore (for what reason I don't know!). Too bad, because there were 5 more
songs on the set list. Foo! We had an all-star attendance, with members of
the Brood there and everyone's fave, Captain P.J. For those who have never
had a P.J. experience, he attends shows occasionally in Boston (and NYC too, I
think) with a duffel bag full of puppets, which he dances with while his sweat
and cigarette sparks fly everywhere. I think he's a DJ in Worcester, Mass
(which I'm sure Blair or someone else could elaborate on). I hear he has a
habit of calling people at all hours.

I think that this weekend was the Prissteens' first P.J. experience. They
nearly stopped playing from laughter.

There's my 2 cents (why o why did the cents sign disappear from the
keyboard??? I don't care if nobody uses it, I want it back!!!!)

Wait a minute. Is E! re-running the Smothers Brothers at all? Without the
commentaries, it still would be worth watching. Please, anyone post anything
you can find about old tv shows being re-run!

Speaking of, did anyone else catch The Monkees last night? There was a big
debate on the radio this morning about whether it was good or awful. This
female deejay was harping about the way they look, and I have NO IDEA what her
problem is. They look great! Peter looks EXACTLY the same; I think he's aged
very little.  I found it great to see them still acting as goofy as ever;
didja catch Mickey with the lobster?

We re-watched "Head" last Thursday in preparation. I hadn't seen it since
high school, and my appreciation is much higher now. That's my take on
everything: give everything from high school another chance. Give everything
you loved another listen or watch; same goes for everything you hated. It's
surprising how tastes can change once you've been exposed to different things!

Okay, there's my morning rant. Have a groovy day!!!

Andrea

I saw the show (well, most of it) by chance and it was pretty darn pathetic.
The best part was the old clips. And to say they haven't changed, c'mon. Even
Peter. Granted they don't really look too bad for their age. At the end of
the program they showed a "before and now" photo and ya gotta remember that
they were kids in the 60's. Fresh looking kids.
