Speaking of, did anyone else catch The Monkees last night? There was
a big debate on the radio this morning about whether it was good or
     awful.

It passed the acid test; my 12-year old son said "That was a good
show, those guys are pretty funny". It wasn't pathetic, I think,
because of Mike Nesmith's involvment. Those reunions with just
the three of them seemed a little desperate. He retained the
flavor of the original show quite well.

Looking over BOMP!'s fine catalog I saw mentioned that label was to
release material from New Race some time this year. My questions:
Is there an estimated date yet? Is it to be a re-release of the original
recordings? In any event, I was quite pleased to hear that this stuff
will finally and affordably available for US consumption.

Hmmm. I don't think I've ever heard Pulp, but now I'm a bit intrigued.

True confession here: I do like the song blur put out a couple of years back,
"girls who like boys who like boys", etc... Once in a while, I still hear it.
It has a fun, new-wavey feel to it. I've never heard anything else Blur has
done.
I'm not sure if I like any other monosyllabically-named bands. Can't think of
any others at the moment!

It's planned for sometime this year, not on Bomp but on our sister label,
Total Energy. So I don't have any details. But I'm pretty sure it'll be the
same stuff that was out before in Australia, haven't heard about any
unreleased stuff turning up. But you never know.

Before this thread vanishes into oblivion, I wonder if anyone could verify
for me if these were the same guys who ran Warwick Records in New York in the
late '50s (Johnny & the Hurricanes, etc). Don't know why, but the name jogs
my memory in that direction.

Thanks

Here's a lil' somethin' for everybody...no matter what your
interest...Let's all hear it for the FIRST AMENDMENT! (I guess that
seperation of church and state clause dont' count here, huh?) I'm not a
Pat Boone fan, I think he's not only lame, but a bit of a fascist.
Still, a little humour isn't harmful. Isn't it a Christian saying "A
merry heart doeth good like medicine?" My grandmother, who I believe
likes Pat Boone(and to her credit, Johnny Cash) always sez that...

PAT BOONE LOSES WORK CAUSE OF HEAVY METAL
(Los Angeles) -- Pat Boone's heavy metal phase is costing him a job. A
Christian television network has canned Boone's gospel show after
thousands of viewers called to complain about the heavy metal album he
recorded. Boone says he may also lose a charity golf tournament he's
hosted for 20 years. Boone says his Christian followers think he has
''burst out in some demented way.''
"GIDGET'S" DAD DIES
(Los Angeles) -- ''Gidget'' fans know Don Porter as Sally Fields' T-V
dad. Fans of Ann Sothern know Porter as her boss in two sitcoms. Porter
was a popular character actor on T-V and in the movies. He co-starred in
''Gidget'' for the one season that show was on the air starting in 1965.
He was Sothern's boss in both ''Private Secretary'' from 1953 to '57 and
again in ''The Ann Sothern Show'' from 1958 to '61. Porter has now died
in Los Angeles. He was 84.

Andrea : My friend Mod was at the show and told me the following...

"Jeff was drinking etc. The set was a short one cause Jeff set the stage up
himself which took some time. No stage hands. Boston pulls the plug anywhere
between 1 and 2 am. They gave him 2 am and that was it. No encore. Check it
out, It was to be a record release party but I did not see any recordings for
sale. Guess I'll check out the local Tower Records."

By the way what do you know about the new Lyres record?
