Ha! I recall lots of jokes about this at Treble Fest! Someone said to me,
"If you see a guy who looks just like the artist formerly known as prince,
you'll know the Makers have arrived". I knew, alright! I was in the middle
of telling someone about it in the back room (*where the merch was sold) and
Mike walked in (right next to me) mid-sentence! I don't think he heard a
thing, though. Did you hear anyone singing "Let's Go Crazy" Makers style?
(Singing anything Makers-style is fun!)

Regarding the Detroit Fest: I'm going. It was decided this weekend. I'm
driving out with friends who are playing it. The big question is, what is the
lineup? I've heard the Kaisers, the Hatebombs, the Woggles, the Hentchmen,
the 'Bald Guys, the Cynics, the Fuzztones and maybe ? & the Mysterians. This
is all heresay. Are Fortune and Maltese playing? The Phantom 5ive?

On another note, the first installment of the Boston Freak-In series is
scheduled for Thursday, April 24th at the Linwood in Boston's Fenway district.
The lineup will the The Brood, the Bomboras, the 'Bald Guys and the Itchies.
I'll keep y'all updated and reminded when the date draws near...

I guess this means The Bomboras have rescheduled their East Coast
trek, then? (They were supposed to come in late March, but I know that's
not happening now.)

it's available for a budget price, but if you have to special order it, =
it is actually listed under Ventures play Telstar since that record is =
first on the disc. hope i'm making sense here.

Yes, my career in the news field continues to enable me to provide you
with what's *really* happening!
First of all, to Hugh, wassup with this?:

ELVIS IN COURT
(London) -- A shopkeeper in London is in court, fighting for the right
to sell Elvis toe-clippers, deodorant and toothpaste. Sid Shaw runs a
shop called Elvisly Yours. The people who run Presley's estate says he's
Elvisly theirs. They say Shaw doesn't have the right to sell Elvis
trinkets -- and a British trademark panel agreed. Shaw is appealing that
ruling. Elvis' people say fans want to know they're getting the genuine
article, but the judge says he doubts fans ''give a toss'' about that.
Shaw's lawyer says Elvis' name is on everything these days anyway. Even
gallows? the judge asked. The attorney replied, ''If there were Elvis
gallows, they would now cost ten times as much'' because of the monopoly
held by Elvis Presley Enterprises.

Next, I wonder how much credit Mike Love would want to take?:

BEACH BOYS IN COURT
(Washington) -- Brian Wilson will have to defend himself far from the
California sun. The Supreme Court is letting fellow Beach Boy Al Jardine
(jar-DEEN') sue Wilson in a New Hampshire court. Jardine sued in New
Hampshire when he missed the filing deadline in California. He says
Wilson's book, ''Wouldn't It Be Nice,'' is full of lies about the band.
He also says Wilson takes too much credit for band's success. Wilson's
attorney argued that it wasn't fair for the suit to be heard in New
Hampshire, but the Supreme Court upheld a lower court ruling that enough
copies of the book had been sold in the state to justify the venue.

Finally, do you think it was James Brown's fault:?

"ROLONDA" CANCELED
(New York) -- Rolanda Watts will be looking for work in a couple of
months. Her talk show's been canceled. It lasted three and a-half
seasons, but never made it big in the ratings. Watts says she's proud of
tackling important issues on the show. She'll tape her last episode in
May. There are enough shows in the can to last through the end of
August.

The reunion was reported in the music trades a couple of weeks ago.
Addicted to Noise also had a brief article on it.

I wouldn't hold out for a schlock company like ABKCO to release anything in
their proper form. A few years ago, I picked up an Animals CD put out by
them, and the sound quality was bloody awful. Real shit.

There isn't much hope for conglomerates like EMI or Time/Warner in terms of
reissues from their back catalog because the bean counters there, wouldn't
allow it. But I can say that I have been impressed with Sony's reissue of
the Byrds early albums, with the improved 20bit sound and packaging, but
they need to do a lot more. We will have to rely more on reissue labels
like Sundazed, AVI and One-Way.

As for Rhino, I can't say that I've been impressed with the quality of their
Atlantic reissues in both jazz and pop/rock either. A little bit of proper
mastering would help with some of them, along with using (at least) DAT
copies of the original masters, instead of 2nd, 3rd (and beyond) generations
of tape.

Pray tell, which fabulous one? (I hope it was "Sing A Song Of Basie"). I
went ape for them waaaaay back, child, in '73, based on a garage sale
score "The Most Vol. III" (50 cents) which included "Jumpin' at the
Woodside", and I am SO GLAD to see peoples gettin' hip to this kind of
groove again!!! Saw Jon Hendricks in a small club with his ensemble
(daughter Aria, beautiful wife, young dude not in the family) Valentine's
day '93 and it was The Bomb. And he's 70. Gosh, Lola
