Tramps is located on 21st St just a wee bit East of 6th Avenue.
(It's about a block above the Limelight.)

I can tell you that they're playing in DC on Thursday 5/8 and, I
think, Philly on Friday, 5/9. (The Trocadero, I think.)
I don't remember the page, either, but you can get there via Steve
Coleman's Prepare To Enter The Garage page. (Sorry, the URL's at home and
I'm at work.)

as i understand it, the cynics have always been micheal and greg's combo and
they area back in touch and rehearsin. one of the guys settin up the detroit
show is buddies with the get hip crew and told me this. the mt mckinleys are
also sposed to be on this bill. i saw the cynics once and they were
stunning....the headcoats/makers were contacted about the detroit fest but
were both unwilling to come off the $1500 guarantee or play a multi-act fest
scenario. some of the shows, the columbus show with the cheater slicks and
new bomb turks in particular, look to be huge blowouts! what is up with green
bay and morgantown WV??? these are rock and roll towns, no? todd

The Makers RICH BOYS??!!??! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!! The Makers make fun
of Tim's bands all the time. Tim loves 60's punk, but you'd never know it by
listening to his bands. They are friends and, I know this is a stretch for
some on this list, it's possible to criticise (or poke fun at) a person's
band without it being a personal attack. As you pointed out, Tim thought so,
too.

Oh, shite. Tramps is on 20th or 21st Street, and it's not the best
place in the world to see a band. Crappy acoustics, ceiling posts
in the middle of the floor, yuppie vibrations, that sort of thing.
But I guess I'll go to any lengths for some Headcoatitude.

This is one of the reasons the Boston fest is not happening: we wanted to do
it the weekend after the Detroit fest, but Thee Headcoats are playing Boston
that weekend! Oh, well. As far as the dilemma goes, it is always great to
catch a band as many times as one can on a tour (as I have done with the
Smugglers), but imagine ALL THOSE bands playing! As a regular festival
attendee, I can tell you, they're usually fun-packed, friendly and have this
unified party feeling to them. but I don't think I need to tell you that,
T.J. -- weren't you in Denver?

I had heard something about that from Rich of the 'Bald Guys, who works with
Monoman. They approached me for Hentchmen's number, which I don't have. Now
THERE'S something to tell your grandchildren about! (Actually, I'm sure we'll
ALL have great stories to tell our grandchildren!)

Subject: Crispin Glover

Tampa was almost like a real city on March 4th, what with iconoclastic
film star and maker/author/orator Crispin Glover giving us a sneak
preview of his new movie: WHAT IS IT? It stars Glover and a cast of
mentally challenged actors and snails, who get the most abuse of all. I
won't give away the premise. I'll just say this: it's all about power
and control, and it may be glanced back at 20 years from now as a
possible ERASERHEAD for the '90s.
He then showed slides from several of his books(possibly some
unpublished), like RAT CATCHING, and gracefully narrated them in a way
that would make William Shatner jealous of his Shakespearean delivery.
He looked rather dapper, too, his hair in a page-boy, much like in the
Glover/Harry Dean Stanton(sp?) film TWISTER(see it!) and suit. There
was a mob scene after the 3-hour performance/film screening, so we
didn't get to press the flesh. But if his lil' show makes it to your
burg, GO, BABY, GO!
Enamoured,
Lounge Laura

talked it over with my girlfriend, and it looks like we're doing the Detroit
fest after all. I'll still get to see Thee Headcoats/Makers at least once.
I especially hope that this Mono Mann/Hentchmen thing comes together and
that the Cynics do, indeed, end up playing, too. I also hope that the
festival organizers have enough sense to put an emcee on the stage that
knows what the hell he/she is talking about. That dork in Denver kept
getting on the stage between bands saying that Jeff Conolly and the Mono Men
were going to be playing! If Mono Mann had heard that, he probably woulda
kicked his ass, as he HATES the Mono Men. And as far as the unified party
feeling phenomenon goes, Treble Fest coulda used a little more of that. I
saw a couple of scuffles (one with a really cool eye-gouge!) and I almost
had to engage in fisticuffs after my girlfriend hauled off and hit some
asshole that had been repeatedly slamming into her. Oh well, that's alcohol
for ya... Nevertheless, we're makin' the scene, anyhow. When the Hatebombs
break into "Go Go Gorilla", I'll keep my eye out for you and your monkey
mask. I can't wait.

Robert Palmer from the band is the writer and critic (NY Times, Rolling
Stone, etc. - not a bad one. He has a nice knowledge of blues and jazz).
Also which of the two Lp's did you get. I love Hoboken Saturday Night and
think that the ballad "Eyes of A New York Woman", with lyrics from Thomas
Pynchon's great novel V, is an amazing lost classic.

This song has also appeared on a couple of comps, Sin Alley vol. 2 and one
of the latter Born Bad volumes. No-one seems to know anything about the
band, etc which is a pity 'cos it's one helluva song. The Cramps also cover
it on the Blind Vision demos EP and more recently on the Flamejob LP.
Speakin' of bands on Sin Alley, anyone know anything about The Frantics Four
(TV Mama/Down By The Old Mill Stream)?
