This is sort of on the topic of garagey stuff. Does anyone have any info
on the new Stone Roses offering, Garage Flower? It has a '96 copyright
and all of the songs are written/co-written by John Squire. Is this a
"boot?" Was this recorded before John left the band? I haven't seen any
reviews in the music papers, so I'm kinda curious.

Jeff

BTW - As an afterthought, it kinda sucks - nowhere near the genius of
Second Coming - but I'm still wondering what this is all about. All help
appreciated.

_Garage Flower_ is circa-'86 demos, and despite whatever it says on the
label I think Silvertone (the Roses' former record company) was behind the
release. I've got one -- it certainly isn't bad but don't expect anything
approaching the pop magic of the _Stone Roses_ LP.

Sorry, I never got what the attraction of this band. I mean, Andrew and
Fred and Toody (sp.?) are super nice people and all, but the music leaves
me flat dead. Had you seen another PDX original, the Wipers in their ORIGINAL
lineup, you'd've seen all you ever needed to see, musically. I know. I was
there, so to speak.

hmmm...I saw the wipers a little while back at LaLuna and it just didn't
do it for me. I don't know if it's because the whole "reunion" thing just
ain't workin' for them, or if they just didn't do it for me in general. It
is, however, grandly wonderful (ok, so grandly isn't a real word) all of
the awesome bands that are popping up around P-town. A friend of mine from
Toronto commented on what cool names all of them have too....

oh yeah...shameless self promotion:

there is a mailing list I run specifically devoted to Portland music, mail
me if anyone is interested.
