A couple months ago I posted an announcement about the new Bomp website, and
invited anyone to send additional listings for the "links" page. Well, I'm
now in the process of completely redesigning the site, but when my hard drive
crashed a few weeks ago I lost all the changes I'd been saving up.

So please, if you have any ideas to offer, or sites to promote, drop me a
line so I can incorporate it.

Thanks

I recently saw a local band called lance <something, can't remeber what>
that did indeed cover the Carrie Nations, though not many seemed to
recognize it and it wasnt acknowledged, except when I yeeled Carrie
Nations......People paid more attention to the fact that one of the guys
was playing "sans culotte"".......

I'd be grateful if you'd include my unofficial Upper Crust website, Monarchy

Hi All,

Just a quick note to say: If anyone out there, in their never-ending
quests for scorching garage-punkers, accidentally buys some awful
yawn-worthy soft rock nonsense, make sure and let me know. I'll
gladly take those duds off your trembling hands. For example: You're
looking for "Mini Skirts" by the Gates of Eden and you accidentally
end up with "Flower Man" by the Garden of Eden. You're stuck with an
attrocious flower power audio-quaalude. Unload those late 60's
near-misses on me. This may permanently ruin my cred on this list,
but I adore soft psych-sploitation like the Love Generation, October
Country and the Millennium (just as much as the Motards, Rip Offs,
Sonics and Neckbreakers...). So if you happen to use the hit-or-miss
method for finding good garage singles, and you miss... maybe I can
help.

Expecting Flames...

Amazingly, I've never heard anyone cover this great song. Redd Kross
did do "Looking On Up At The Bottom" on their first album. At practise
a couple of weeks ago, the band I'm playing in (we just formed, no nam
e yet, though "the Castros," "the Sphinxmen" and "the Cop Outs" were
thrown around last night as possibiltites - we're also looking for a
second guitarist) was tossing around ideas for a weird song or two to
c
over, and Meredith the bass player suggested "Find It." We said we'd do
it if she would sing it, which she's somewhat releuctant to do. I guess
we could do it with guy vocals, but it wouldn't be the same.

If you want to read more about BTVOTD, check out Do The Pop #1, which
includes an article and the lyrics to "Find It" reprinted.

Not the Monkees, nor the Archies, nor even the Stones: but the
Hullaballoos. Who the heck were these goldilocked Hollyhawkers? I'd love
to find out more about these guys. The lp I found is not in the best of
shape, but playable. Some of the songs are pretty rocking though, and
the singer really seems to have that Peggy Soo-oo-oo twang down.

Has this been re-released on the big screen? Some friends of mine just got

EAGLES TIE MICHAEL JACKSON
(Washington) -- The Eagles and Michael Jackson can now both claim to
have the best-selling albums in history. The Eagles ''Greatest Hits''
album has now sold 24 (M) million copies -- the same as Jackson's
''Thriller.'' It took the Eagles a lot longer than Jackson to sell that
many copies. It took the Eagles 21 years, Jackson only 13. Fleetwood
Mac's ''Rumours'' is far behind in third place, with 17 (M) million
copies sold. Three groups are a (M) million behind Fleetwood Mac in a
three-way tie: Boston's self-titled debut, the soundtrack to ''The
Bodyguard'' and ''Led Zeppelin Four.'' Hootie and the Blowfish's
''Cracked Rear View,'' Bruce Springsteen's ''Born in the U-S-A'' and
Alanis Morisette's ''Jagged Little Pill'' are tied with 15 (M) million
copies sold. The Eagles have a second album in the all-time top ten.
''Hotel California'' and ''Appetite for Destruction'' by Guns N' Roses
have sold 14 (M) million copies each.

Carrie Nations fans may enjoy the recently re-released Feminine
Complex cd out on Teenbeat records. The Nashville all-female band
released an lp on Athena back in I believe 1968, but I may be wrong.
A weird mix of lilting vocals, garage spirit, and over-production.
I've had the lp for 10 yrs now, and when I first saw B.V.D. I thought
the Nations sounded like the Feminine Complex. Mind you the BVD
soundtrack is done by over-produced sessions musicians. Don't expect
girls in the garage vol. 8, from these Nashville kids in tennis
dresses, they aren't the Pleasure Seekers, it's like a rock/lounge
kinda thing... Teenbeat also put several demo tracks which are more
raw on the cd. They are distributing a 7" of the two best songs from
the lp and have plans to reissue even more dug-up FC tracks in
mid-April. There is talk of some Feminine Complex reunion shows, but
the women have family obligations, etc. "Dad has to take you to
school today, you know I have band practice."

UK band with Ricky Knight, Harry Dunn, Andy Wooton & Geoff Mortimer,
recorded for Roulette in US in mid-60s, with 2 chart hits - buddy
Holly's I'm Gonna Love You To (have this in my archives somewhere - seem
to remember it being ok, but not as good as the13th Floor Elevator's
version) & Did You Ever, also 2 LPs in '65 - England's Newest Singing
Sensations & The Hullabaloos On Hullaballoo. The name had nothing to do
with the TV show, but the fact they were from Hull, England.

> "Born In The USA"--that song has always bothered me. The words and music
do not go together...the lyrics are bitter evocation of the Vietnam War
experience by the speaker/singer but the music is jingoistically
triumphant. The Boss make a serious artistic wrong turn with "The River"
by embracing that cheesy frat rock sound and has never been able to come
back. "Nebraska" was valiant effort--but over half the album is
unlistenable.
