Subject: Grapevine, not Louie

Well, I had the right idea but the wrong song...

* In January, the owners of KZZC-FM, Tipton, Calif., ended 18
consecutive months of being an all-"I Heard It Through the
Grapevine" station, playing various versions of that song all day,
7 days a week (except once, when it played the Eagles' "New Kid
in Town" for a whole weekend). The station was pending sale,
and the owner needed just to keep the frequency occupied, but
negotiations dragged on much longer than expected.

hi all,

I got a boot of THE MASTER'S APPRENTICES first LP this week end, and it 's
for sure the best stuff I could discover since months. Two of the tracks
were already featured on the top comp " Twisted Teenage..." issued on
Israphon in 1990: "Buried and Dead",and the killer "Undecided".Except the
fact that they were australian, don't have any informations about the
band...so i stand by you to tell me what you know bout these guys, or
where i could find any infos about them

Thanx

Not only that, but the Circuit City's in our area are advertising a special
on the new Matthew Sweet CD which will be released tomorrow. They're
promoting an additional disc of M.S. material which is available only at
Circuit City. Anyone know anything about this??

Yesterday's Best Buy circular also promised an exclusive free 4-track CD
(with 'unreleased material') with purchases of the new Matthew Sweet CD.

/soapbox=on

I must say that if I owned an independent store that did *any* business in
major-label product I'd be screaming bloody murder about this. The label
has *in effect* deleted four tracks off the CD as a penalty for consumers
who choose not to shop at superstores. I understand it is in major
labels' interests to deal with as few retailers as possible but selling
what amounts to incomplete versions of CDs to certain channels of trade is
not acceptable.

Subject: Lazy Cowgirls' boot(leg)s

I just got a Lazy Cowgirls record last week on some Australian label (forgot
title and label - but it doesn't matter), one side is the usual rippin punk
stuff, the other side they're interviewed by Byron Coley. The interview is
insulting yet funny (about what you'd expect) but what piqued my interest
was the mention of Cowgirl bootlegs, one being of their second show ever,
the other one being a show where Chris D. (Flesheaters)grabbed the mic for a
few tunes. In the interview they said something about these releases being
Canadian in nature, then again this was in between comments about Wallabees
(sp? you know, those cute Australian things?) spraying their sex fluids at
you. I wasn't sure exactly what info could be uh... gleaned as truth from
all the banter and idle chit chat. Anybody know where these supposed boots
can be purchased? Web searches have yielded nothing for me. Also, I heard
something about 13 full albums being out by these guys. I've only seen five
or six around... anyone feeling like showing off their musical savoir faire
and giving a discog? I'll buy ya a beer if you do....

Sleazy D asks 'bout the Cowgirls - being a major Cowgirls fan myself, here's
my pathetic attempt at a discography (maybe someone who knows something can
fill this out)...

1st LP (can't remember the title)
Tappin' The Source LP
How It Looks How It Is LP (CD version contains Third Time's The Charm EP)
Radio Cowgirl (live + singles)
Third Time's The Charm 12" EP
Third Time's The Charm 12" EP (1 side with interview)
Third Time's The Charm...Again MLP (same songs as on original release plus
various singles)
Ragged Soul (new LP - haven't heard this one. Is it any good?)

BTW, the record Sleazy D mentions is Third Time's The Charm, which was
released on Grown Up Wrong! (later thee most holy Dog Meat Records).

damn. words alone don't express how awesome these guys were. i've only
been open for about two months and they were only the sixth or so band to
play here...but, they kicked every other band that's ever been here all
over the place.

literally, i run the joint and it was the second best live show I have ever
been to (buzzcocks in 91 was the best).

they were the most decent band guys i've ever met.

just thought you should know.

keep up the good work.

At $29 a year (that's 12 issues and 12 CDs) it's one of the best bargains
around! Years ago I had to pay $250/year when they were an indie reporter and
not a mainstream magazine (and even that was a deal!)

Check the used bins, I'll keep my eyes peeled too.
