Sylvain,

a definitive guide to the Master's Apprentices can be found in magazine called
'Freedom Train'. You can contact the author/publisher at the following URL:

http://www.angliss.vic.edu.au/pristine/pristine3.html

The publications produced by Pristine are a must for anyone interested in
Australian Alternative or 60's/70's music,

Cheers,

Try checking the larger newsstands (or bookstores?) in your area; I've seen it

Did they include the Slits' version? I'd tune in for that....
For a little while...
Y'know, we have almost the same thing here: it's called Lite-FM.

There was a MA compilation of Raven a few years ago called "Wars Or
Hands Of Time," but only side one is any good. The other side, as they
get into the late '60s/early '70s finds them sounding too much like Led
Zeppelin for their own good. I prefer their earliest, rawest stuff.

It's been out for a month or so. I think Del Fi put this one out
somewhat decptively, too. Norton and Del Fi are invloved in a lawsuit
over who owns the tapes, as Norton has gone ahead and put out vol. 1 of
their set, also.

I actually heard part of that "Grapevine" marathan while on a driving trip
last year. They played the Creedence version about 4 times in a row, then
slipped in Gladys, then back to Creedence. I kinda doubt the Slits made the
cut.

Subject: Japanese garage punk bands

I'm a pretty rabid fan of both Teengenerate and Guitar Wolf, and I'm
wondering if anyone on this list has heard any other Japanese garage punk
bands. I've heard plenty about the 5678s, the Jet Boys and the
Registrators, for example.

In particular, has anyone actually heard the Jet Boys or the Registrators?
What do they sound like, especially in comparison to Teengenerate and Guitar
Wolf? And what do the Jet Boys and the Registrators have released in the
States? Do they have any CDs or just singles? Someone told me the Jet
Boys sound very much like old Johnny Thunders junkie-style punk. Is that
true?

Also, if anyone can name me other cool Japanese garage punk bands or let
me know of any cool available CD comps, I'd appreciate it.

P.S. Howdy to Evan Davies from a fellow WWWAC list member!

The registrators are fucking amazing! they have a sharper sound than
teengenerate, but are kind of the same thing. i highly recommend their
lp on Rip Off. I've only heard the Jet Boys 10", and i think it's okay,
but not as good as teengen or the registrators. but if you're a fan of
guitar wolf too, you'd probably like them. i don't know about the jet
boys (besides a 10 and a single or two), but the registrators have a
number of singles avaliable, and like i said, an lp/cd on rip off.

there's a comp called Chloroform that is all Japanese punk bands in this
vein. all killer stuff. another band you might try to keep an eye out
for is Engine Boo. They have a single and some ohter stuff...i'm not
really sure. Hope this helps.

this album totally kills!! think l.a.m.f. meets highway to hell. really =
well-recorded/produced compared to their early stuff. i think it's the =
best stuff they've ever done. it's really great to hear bands that get =
better and better w/ every record, as opposed to the "you gotta hear the =
early stuff" bands, if ya know what i mean.

i was lucky enough to catch these guys live when ragged soul first came =
out. watching them climb onstage i figured they must be the band's =
roadies (lead singer is a dead ringer for danny devito--no kidding!). =
they opened w/ the first 3 songs from ragged soul and just totally =
knocked everyone on their ass. the club was only about 1/3 full and by =
the end of their set there was almost a riot.

well, i really dig the registrators-their lp, teriminal boredom, sounds much
like teengenerate without the chuck berry element. the lp is on the fantastic
rip off label and is full-on 77-style punk rock-very straight forward. much
harder than say the 5,6,7,8s who are fun and even funner live! i also like
the 3 lp set on planet x featurin all 60s japanese punk rock. a great series
of compilations! todd

Dennis Dalcin (ddalcin@digital.net.) was the one checking into the Tropics,
right? I know that Buddy Pendergrass works at a studio here in Tampa, so
maybe Dennis just needs to light a fire underneath him. There is also a guy
named Randy in town that has put together a 2 CD set of rare mid Florida
garage from the sixties including all of the Tropics, Outsiders, Noah's Arc,
Rovin' Flames, etc. singles. This might help to put an outstanding Florida
comp in some groovy series of garage compilation records. I think his price
is 40 bucks for the two gold "home burned" CDs. He also scored a copy of the
first Tropics LP, a cruddy album from 62 full of Ray Charles and Elvis
covers. (call Randy (813) 985 - 1070 or Fred (813) 526 - 0514) Good Luck

I went to a newsstand that had the current issue of CMJ, but not the right
one. The "consumer" version doesn't have it, only the "radio"

Lazy Cowgirls fans take note:

Get the new Mother Fucker 666 self-titled LP/CD out now on Get Hip
Records (P.O. Box 666, Canonsburg, PA 15317). It's the debut album
featuring the Pagans' Mike Metoff, Angry Samoans' Jeff Dahl and Alan
Clark & Keith Tellingham who were the original drums/bass of the Lazy
Cowgirls. This is some killer stuff, with covers of Head On (Stooges),
Celluloid Heroes (Kinks) and a version of And Then He Kissed Me
featuring sex kitten Zebra Stripes from Hot Damn.
