For anyone who cares, I found this discog in my further searches for Cowgirl

"How it Looks, How it is" LP or the "New Girl in Town" dbl 7" as a starting
point, those are the ones that initially hooked me...

I was wondering about this... when I got home last night I checked the track
listings on the April and March CDs and there wasn't a Dandy Warhol in sight.
I've often found the radio CMJ discs in used shops, as someone suggested
yesterday.

In particular, has anyone actually heard the Jet Boys or the Registrators?
What do they sound like, especially in comparison to Teengenerate and Guitar
Wolf? And what do the Jet Boys and the Registrators have released in the
States? Do they have any CDs or just singles? Someone told me the Jet
Boys sound very much like old Johnny Thunders junkie-style punk. Is that
true?

Also, if anyone can name me other cool Japanese garage punk bands or let
me know of any cool available CD comps, I'd appreciate it.

P.S. Howdy to Evan Davies from a fellow WWWAC list member!

I like the Jet Boys, though not as much as Teengenerate though the
sound is similar. The Get Hip 10" is pretty cool, and I also have a
single credited to Freddy Lynx and the Jet Boys and that's ripping
stuff. It was produced by Glen Matlock, too. I like the Registrators a
lot. Saw them when my old band the Primate 5 played with them in '95.
Very cool. good cover tunes selection. The Rip Off albunm is pretty
good.

Another band you mught wanna check out is The Remains, who put out a CD
on 1+2 a couple of years ago. They changed their name to The Golden
Arms, but I don't think they've out anything else out.

Guitar Wolf are one of my favorite bands ever. You should get all
of their releases as soon as possible. I've heard only a few others of the
New Japan punk bands (as future rock critics will no doubt refer to
them)...
The Jet Boys indeed sound very much like a noisier, sped-up
Heartbreakers, very sloppy '77-style punk. Their "I Wanna Die" 7" on
Dionysis is one of my favorites. There's also a good 12" 45 with the song
"I Don't Wanna" (notice a trend here?) but I forget the label it's on.
Ono-Ching, lead guitarist, is also a psychotic visual artist whose
fascination with rectal functions has earned him the name "Assman Ono."
If you like (mostly instrumental) garage/surf then you should
definitely check out Jackie & The Cedrics or The Mad 3. I've seen the Mad 3
when they toured with Guitar Wolf, and they are awesome.
The Registrators do a cover of "Hotel California" on a Repent
single that I didn't like too much, but I've heard other songs by them that
kicked.
I recommend keeping an eye out for Cunt 55 (pronounced Cunt Go-Go),
a great all-girl punk band with really confusing yet catchy tunes. They
feature two members of the defunct noise band 10 Yen Ana-Kinoko. They don't
have any records out yet.
Famous Japanese comedienne Naoko Nozawa was lead singer of NYC's
Chimpanzees, who played a hardcore/punk hybrid wearing monkey costumes
behind Naoko's trademark screechy vocals. The Chimpanzees put out one cd,
"El Chimpo Grande," before breaking up due to Naoko's pregnancy. Now she's
singing with her husband Bob's annoy-core art band, the Ass Baboons Of
Venus.
Finally, the Titans are a fun garagey punk band that have a couple
of good releases out on Repent Records.

Happy hunting.

Rick Hall

The Supersnazz CD on Sub Pop called 'Super Stupid' is worth hearing. This
four piece all girl band trash through 'First Time Is The Best Time' (DMZ),
'Comanche', a revised version of 'Leavin' Here' called 'Middle of the Way'
and the Rivington's 'Papa Oom Mow Mow'. The rest of the material rocks in a
similar high-energy lo-fi direction. A fun disc. [Sub Pop SPCD 79/250]

A couple of weeks ago I picked up the Guitar Wolf CD on Matador. I still do
not know what to think of it. Sure it's loud, noisy and brash but my
initial reaction was slight disapointment. Hmm - better give it a few more
plays before I decide if the thumb should go up or down. As for the
Teengenerate album on Estrus, I defy anyone to find a better version of
'Midnight To Six Man'. Explosive stuff.

Steve C.

....who found a UK copy of Mouse & the Trap's 'Cryin Inside' at the weekend
and though the song is sad he is extremely happy with this purchase. Real
effective use of the Vox keyboard on this one.

the sad thing is that The Dandy's are local here so it's doubtful anyone
will be giving it up (unless it's a country station or something <grin>)
If everyone will keep their eyes open for me I would love it!! (and pay $$$
for it!!)

fingers are crossed!

Be on the lookout for Guitar Wolf to be playing in your neck of the woods soon.
They're doing a tour with Nashville Pussy and The Pleasure Fuckers. I don't
know the day off-hand, but they're playing Normal, IL in mid-May.
