Well, it wasn't the Luv'd Ones, but the Early '90's group The Loved Ones. Acutally, it's just Bart and Xan. There are also apparently a couple ex-members of the Mono Men if I'm not mistaken. They formed as the Supernaturals about a year and a half ago and just changed their name in January.

They released a 5 song CD (don't know the label, but Mod Lang is a store in Berkeley) in February. I don't own it.

I saw them in January, and can't say I was that impressed. Their talent goes without saying, but it seemed they were trying to do too many things at once, from acid jazz to Santana to Love sounding material, and it just never grabbed me. It's a shame too, because Xan is a great blues guitarist, and I loved the Loved Ones.

The Loved Ones old drummer John Kent is playing these days with the singer of the Beau Brummels (other band members are John's age, but they're still called the Beau Brummels). He also sat in a couple times with Arthur Lee before the arrest. I think he also has a more poppy band going as well. As for Mike Theireaux, I don't know. He got married around the time of the Loved Ones split, and may or not be in a band at this point.

I'm amazed that many of you know about Japanese new garage
bands.
I think most of Japanese don't know any of them.

Naoko Nozawa came to Japan from N.Y. now.
But Japanese think she is just a camp comediane.

Hmmm... There's two "ex-Mono Men"- Mort and Marx. I doubt if it's Mort because
he just quit the Mono Men to settle down with his wife and new baby. It could
be Marx, though I'm scared of that, because the last time I heard anything
about him, he was living in southern California, and is a fan of the Eagles.

How do the "new" Beau Brummels sound?

I had the chance to see Arthur Lee and Love (actually him and Baby Lemonade)in
Chicago a few years back, and it was GENIUS! Those boys backin' him up sounded
just like Love. Arthur's voice was just as good as it was in the Love days,
too. It was truly amazing. When their set ended (too soon), Arthur said,
"Unless any of you have any Geritol, that's it." Afterwards, I had Arthur sign
my Love Revisited album, and he wrote, "To D.J.-Love, Arthur Lee". That's
okay, though...

Signed,
D.J. (T.J)

That was my dumb mistake, I meant to say the Mortals, not the Mono Men. Sorry for the confusion. I haven't gotten to see the "new" Beau Brummels, I just got to talk to John when I was in San Francisco. He seemed excited about it, but they weren't getting any decent gigs. John's got good taste though, and he's a good drummer, so I'd like to give them the beneifit of the doubt on that one.

And as for Baby Lemonade, they apparently have a new CD out. Anyone heard it yet?

Woggles album release party in Atlanta tomorrow! You Get Hip fans will like to know that the Subsonics are opening. Maybe the Woggles will do "Arthur Lee". I haven't seen them do this song yet.

The Kinetics cd is on the Mod Lang label only available at Mod Lang Records in
Berkeley or at the Kinetics shows.
Mike Therieau is now in a band named Mover--they play frequently around the
Bay Area and have a cd scheduled for release in early May.
Aside from the Beau Brummels, John Kent was playing with a group named Uncle
Walty--I don't know if they're still together (there are two other guys and I
don't know where they came from), they haven't played in awhile.

"ERASERHEAD" DEATH RULED A HOMOCIDE
(Los Angeles) -- The death of ''Eraserhead'' star Jack Nance is now in
the hands of homicide investigators. Nance was found dead last December
one day after police say he was punched in the face during an argument
in a donut shop. The coroner has decided that Nance died from a blood
clot caused by the punch. Police have talked to people who work in the
donut shop, but so far no one remembers seeing the fight.

JAMES BROWN HONORED
(Atlanta) -- The Godfather of Soul is now ''the minister of the new
super heavy funk.'' That's what James Brown is called in a resolution
passed by state lawmakers in Atlanta. The state House and Senate honored
Brown for bringing ''a spark of energy and excitement to an otherwise
listless U-S music scene.'' Lawmakers stood in line to pose for photos
with Brown, and some missed votes. One proposal lost by one vote,
prompting a lawmaker to call it ''the constitutional amendment that
James Brown killed.''

Truth is stranger than I am, folks...

Subject: need musicians for NYC Baskervilles

Ladies and Gentleman, Tampa's Baskervilles (formerly Baskervils) are moving
to New York City. We need a bass and lead guitar player, and at least one or
both need vocals for our chic go-go combo.

Our Look: Tight trousers (leaving nothing to the imagination),
Beatle/Chelsea boots, tight jackets, wide solid color ties, hips that twist
and swing.

Our Sound: A mix of Mersey/Garage (songs like 99th Floor), VU, Kinks, and
Roxy Music (We have a keyboard player with Farfisa/old Korg/Oscillators).

If this sounds like something you would find ATTRACTIVE, please e-mail me.
We are scheduled to move into the city during the 3rd week of July. You
Bompers are the most! I love you all. Rob

PS - nice to hear of the new Woggles record

PSS - still looking for Sparks boots and videos! anyone, anyone

Yeah, I saw 'em in L.A. last Saturday and they blew me away, even
though they are all obviously tired from nonstop touring. I even got to
"play" lead on Seiji's guitar during their rendition of "Kick Out Jams."
These boys are one of the best live acts around, as long as they can stay
relatively in-tune.
As far as I know, the Nashville Pussy/Pleasure Fuckers tour is a
separate entity, although they all might be colliding at some of the
Midwestern dates. Nashville Pussy is not to be missed.

Hey, thanks for the info. Actually, it's not Mid-May that they're playing in
the Midwest like I thought, but early April. Funny thing is, I checked it out
and they're supposed to be playing in Normal, IL on April 8, but the tour dates
on the Guitar Wolf homepage say they're playing Lexington, KY on the 8th.
Hmmm... Go figure.
