First few times I saw Los Straightjackets I thought they were just OK, but
this last time I saw them at Maxwells they were really on fire and exciting.
I never lost interest, even though it was all instros.
Guitar Wolf, on the other hand, is mostly just a funny schtick. Good
for a little bit, but I lost interest after a little while. The songs just
didn't grab my attention for long. Maybe I need to see them again and be
converted?
It's hard to compare a band that is supremely talented as musicians
against a band that is just learning how to play. The choice of what to look
for in a band is yours alone......

Did you see them live or did you listen to the CD? I agree that Guitar
Wolf's CDs do sound like they're just learning to play. However, I've
heard from a few people that they're actually very tight live. For what
it's worth, Guitar Wolf have been together for several years, so I'd
think they'd've developed some sort of musical aptitude by now. Oh well,
they're coming my way soon so I'll find out for sure...

Back to the original question: should you see Guitar Wolf or Los
Straitjackets? Well, I don't know what this is worth to you, or if this
should even matter at all, but right now Guitar Wolf are getting a fair
amount of hype and exposure and buzz in hipster indie circles, while Los
Straitjackets are not, which is certainly not to say that means Guitar
Wolf is the better band.

Well, what about those Chuck Berry covers on the Shadows of Knight's
first album? (;

I'm sure Vince Taylor wrote "Cadillac" and recorded it first in 1958.

Subject: IGGY & Stooges/Raw Power Remastered Re-Issue

heya - some of the zine peoples on this here
list may know me. i have a little promotion /
publicity company called
'search & destroy promotions'.

i busted the balls of the people i know at
columbia/sony to be hired for the re-issue
campaign of Iggy & The Stooges - Raw Power.

i'm listening now to the cd of the new mix
done by Iggy himself. the record now is
beyond brutal sounding... its virtually
shredding my pair of boston acoustics!
this is a totally new record.

raw power always sounded just ridiculously
'muddy' to me. even as a youngin' when i
first bought it in '79. i'm sure all here are more
than familiar.

not to mention the booklet for the re-issue
includes a 12 page booklet with must be
a 3000 word IGGY interview on the every
facet of the records' orig. & re-issue release.

zine people already are on search &
destroy promo copies mailing list should
watch for you promo copy soon. if you're
not on my promo list and want to be, send
me a note and we'll see maybe.
