Actually, It was the Tongues of Truth. Like Apollo astronaut Frank
Borman and cult murderer Charles Schmid ("Smitty"), they are fellow
alumni of Tucson High School.

Actually, they were called The Grodes. They were only the Tongues of
Truth for one single. I don' think they were ever Truth of Tongues.

Yeah, they're playing here next weekend w/The Humpers and I'm hyped to

Jeff, my address is: 1011 Boren Ave., #114 Seattle, WA 98104. It's
funny I tried to send you some email a week ago, but it kept getting

a review by me of the surf-hotrod comp. on Blood Red. I'd love to

What's yours? I must have the wrong one!

Subject: LOS DUG DUGS

I'm wondering if anoyne can help me out here.......I have three albums and a
45 in my collection by a '60s-'70s band from Mexico called Los Dug Dugs. I
first discovered them on a trip to Mexico, no less. While browsing in a
dingy, dusty record shop in Ensenada, I came across an album by them called
EL LOCO. They looked like the Mexican equivalent of Black Sabbath on the
cover, and had song titles like "Stupid People" and "We Always Hate Your
Manners" and I couldn't resist buying it on those strengths......since then
I've found a "best-of" album for a buck in some cut-out bin back home in New
York, a reissue of what appears to have been their first album in a
collectors shop (that appears to be a bootleg), and a promo 45 "World of
Love/Let's Make It Now" by chance in some oldies 45 shop. All I know about
them is that their main musical genius is named Armando Nava, that they're
supposedly still active to this day in Mexico, and that they recorded for
RCA. Beyond that, I've been busting my balls trying desperately to research
information on them, even trying several web pages on Latin rock to no avail
(those pages seem to cover a lot of modern Latin bands, but none of the old
ones). Their music is often (but not always) quite garagey at times and quite
psych at others. I've become a huge afficionado of the records I have found
by them and am hoping that one or more of your readers might be able to
provide some historical info.
Thanks for your time, y'allll.................RAY BRAZEN (raybrazen@aol.com)

Subject: Scott/Jacques

Hello!
Due to the chilling effect I first received when I joined this list, I
have been reticent to post for awhile...but now that I have the time and
the gumption, I was wondering who on the list has a CD I have on order;
SCOTT WALKER SINGS JACQUES BREL? Does Scott, in typical fashion, sing
in English or French? Just how cool is it?
BTW-this discussion of Nick Cave covering Walker comes as no surprise to
me...the first time I heard Scott, and I can't remember what song, but
my friends and I all agreed that Nick the Stripper based a lot of his
career on Scott's vocal intonations alone...I know that Julian Cope is a
big digger...any other artist cover Walker numbahs?
Thanks!

Subject: Hatebombs/Monarchs

Well, for nearly a week I've been off the list for some bizarre reason, and my
posts did not go through.

I don't know if anyone posted this yet, but the Hatebombs were looking for
some midwestern gigs at the end of April as they work their way up to Detroit
for the Gutterfest, May 1 - 3. Anyone willing to set up a show for them?
Email Scott at backbone@magicnet.net or Ken at speedo@magicnet.net.

Also, I was wondering what the story is on the Monarchs lately? Did they all
go their separate ways, or did they find a drummer to replace Tommy? If the
former, are the ex-members doing anything else now? Did they ever release
anything besides the 2 singles on Bulb and the lp on Pin Up?

Thanks a bunch,

I heard that Guitar Wolf is playing with the Phantom Surfers and the Itchies
this Saturday in Providence. Can anyone confirm this?

Also, if you don't have the Itchies 7", get it! It's great trashy
rocknrolling surfy fun! I can get the address for anyone who wants it.

The Hate Bombs are the most energetic, straight ahead garage band in Florida.
They are in a neck and neck tie with the Pink Lincolns for the best two live
bands in America. You must book them! They will stun you all!

Krautrock Sampler. Also - The best issue of Mojo I've ever seen is this
month's (April)! Dig the an incredible spread on Can, Faust, Kraftwork, Eno,
Amon Duul, etc. and a great 15 page spread on the Byrds! Buy your copies

Haven't actually heard the Dug Dugs, but they're supposed to be
really good. Its great whenever you can find a cool mexican rock album in a
thrift store.A few weeks ago I found an album called "Yo Quiero Rock",with a
really cool cover illustration of two kids dancing, and a bunch of tracks by a
band called "Los Somnabules".Its just completely wild 50's rocking
stuff, better than most of the tracks on the "Blue Demon" mexican comp that
came out a few years ago.It looks to be a late 50's pressing.
I also found a '75 album by "Three Souls",which is just real low budget
rocking stuff with snotty vocals.Even the track called "tributo To Jimi
hendrix" is just three chord boogie!
