Frank: shoot yourself. There's nothing. Well, definitely no music this
week,
advertised, as of yet. When I have travellers in town, here where's I most
like to take them:

- - The Jet Set. Our best swinger (literally) bar. You'll need a female (or
a >1 girl/boy ratio if you're a group) to get in. Sin Sin Sin!

- - The Lakewood Landing. Thee coolest of local little old people's bars.
Neighborhood drunks served by my favorite bartender, in any city, Lucille.

- - Citi Modern. Incredible furniture store. Every of it's many corners, a
different
version of the milk bar in clockwork orange. The atlanta museum of art, I
think
(or some other museum) has bought pieces displayed in their showroom straight

to exhibit. Much funner, even, if you're rich.

- - Forbidden Books. video/book/sin store. Pick an obscure fetish (though
nothing
musical) and here you will be served(/beaten). If you have access to a VCR,
and
you've never seen Heino, for god's sake rent the WFMU-TV/That's Irritainment
videos,
along with tons of other insanely entertaining things (ask me if you want
more suggestions).
Jason's (the guy running it) a much liked guy. He's good people.

- - Bar Of Soap. Just in case you're at Forbidden, and it's daytime, and you
want a drink,
bar of soap (a bar/washeteria) is open early and very cheap in the daytime.

- - The Orbit Room. If you find yourself in Deep Ellum, stranded in some
schmuck bar, ask
where this one is. Hopefully, it will be better.

- - The Egyptian Room. You have more than 3 bucks, you want a restaurant?
Like Italian?
Go here. Preferably during the daytime, where it's most impressively dark.
Make sure you
check out the hall between the front and back dining rooms, to see the
place's autographed
photo list, because the 60's-70's clientelle was incredible. Owned by the
Campisi family, who
many jfk scholars will say conspired with New Orleans' Marcello's to do our
luckiest
leader in. The A&E faction, in their jfk documentary, mentioned (with
storefront footage) the
Egyptian Room as the main campisi-marcello clubhouse. I've accidentally
walked in to a
back room there, shut my mouth and backed out slowly, and will always believe
that the A&E
theory is a definite possibility.

Just reading back that you wanted record/cd stores and shows/open mics. I've
never been to
a good open mic, probably because you won't find one here. record/cd stores
are another
hopeless subject. Try forbidden records (across the corner, same mgmt as
forbidden books)
for a very limited, but occasionally useful collection. If you're willing to
drive, you could also
go to Bill's (3rd rate quality at 3 times the price!) Records or RPM
records. For local listings,
find a "met" or "observer" rag, though I see nothing in them soon worth
dirt. Guitars? Go to
"rockville". Man or astroman liked the place enough to spend thousands
there, but so what.
But maybe you'll find something.

I try,
- - gorgo

I figured this list would be a pretty safe bet for finding someone who
knows where in the hell I can get some crates for my vinyl. I'm sick of
searching all over town with no luck. I'm looking for both the large and
half-size LP crates as well as 7" crates.

There's gotta be a mailorder place out there that carries 'em, right?

This isn't really a proper release. It's put out by a couple singles
collectors with a CD burner, and they only produce a copy when someone orders
it. As custom-made CDs like this will become easy to produce in the near
future (if they aren't already), the $50.00 they're charging for a copy is
pretty steep. I bought one anyway, only because it turned out one of the guys
was in the Purple Underground of "Count Back" fame (!!), and I wanted to do
an interview (which will hopefully appear in Freakout USA #3...someday).
Unfortunately the band has no unreleased material.
Anyway, the CDs contain 48 tracks ranging from 1960 to 1975 by bands
such as the Tropics, Split Ends, Illusions, White Witch, Clefs Of Lavender
Hill, Blues Image (yep, "Ride Captain Ride" - blecchh!), Bad Boys, Purple
Underground, Night Crawlers, Birdwatchers, etc. No liner notes. There are a
couple cool non-comp tracks ("Comin' On Strong" by the Illusions, "Little
Miss Sad" by the Savages), but most or the un-reissued stuff is
disappointing, especially the Split Ends' material, which documents their
metamorphosis into a dull hard rock, southern-boogie type band. Still, they
were a lot better than White Witch!
Well, if anyone's still interested, call Randy at (813)985-1070 or
write to R&F Productions, 11535 Meredyth St.,Tampa, FL 33637.

Midnight rds is one more time the most expensive ($60), and I finally found
the best prices at Cdworld ($40)... but I've got troubles to define each of

sorry to annoy you with such basic questions, but I've asked the same at

btw...do you have any adresses where to buy it cheaper ?

Subject: Radio Rumpus Room playlist, 1/2/98

Here's the Radio Rumpus Room playlist for Friday, January 2, 1998. (Hardest
thing to explain is how Kopper and I BOTH were inspired to play Austin's
Sandblasters' *Mookiest Limbo* within 24 hours of each other... obviously
another El Nino-attributable phenom...)

Anyway, here's the stuff we shovelled with love over the Minneapolis/St.
Paul airwaves this past Friday:

SAVVY SHOW STARTER (ALWAYS LOCALLY RECORDED!)
Vibro Champs -- Cold Cold River (Stimulating Sounds Of The Vibro Champs,
Sci-Fi Western)

What can we say? These guys are tied with Jack Knife & The Sharps as the
hardest working 'billy boys in the Twin Cities. Now, if we only knew the
status of that long-promised all-instro Vibro's album expected to include
Jim Sundquist (the Fendermen) and Tony Andreason (the Trashmen)...

Jahnar,

Thanks. Now I remember on their "Dirty Habits" album--the members were
dressed up as nuns.

'tis the season for reformations......just thought I'd let you all know
that two of the greatest Aussie garage bands from the 80's have got back
together for a few shows only. THe Lime Spiders reformed briefly mid 1997
with Mick Blood being the only original member but now the original line-up
is back together, they did a warm up show last week under the name Green
Fuzz, I'll get to check em out this weekend in Sydney. The Stems get to
Sydney at the end of January, I don't know any details about line-up, but
it's another one to look forward to.

Subject: More Question Markian Wisdom!

Just noticed this in the 1/1/98 NY Times, Living Arts Section p. B-23
(Midwest Edition). In the Pop Life column, subtitled "Planning Early for
the Millenium," various rock stars were asked what they were doing on New
Year's Eve 1999. The 10 stars, including Prince, David Bowie, Marilyn
Manson, Phil Lesh, Puff Daddy & Trey Anastasio of Phish are given a
paragraph each. The guy with the longest quote is Question Mark!

"The first thought I ever received telepathically was between first and
sixth grade, and it said: 'Figure out how old you're going to be in the
year 2000.' I didn't know the answer because I was bad at math, but
something told me way back then that something's going to happen in the
year 2000. Is that when I die? Will we perform at Madison Square Garden?
It's a mystery. The people from the future also told me that I'm going to
come back in the year 10,000 - by myself."

Suffice it to say that none of the other answers were as brilliant!

Frank
