I hate to speak ill of the dead, but let's face it, Sonny sucked. I mean
c'mon, I can think of a thousand other things I could be listening to.
Although the Sonny and Cher show was horrible enough to be good. The
pre-lift Cher, ya gotta love it.

Yeah, that was hilarious! If you're not used to The Daily Show, the
interviewers (A. Whitney Brown did the ? interview last night) ALWAYS
make fun of who they're interviewing (smug? try tongue-in-cheek)... it
is, after all, on COMEDY CENTRAL. And ya gotta admit, the shit ? was
saying WAS pretty off-the-wall, wacky shit. But it was all done in good
clean fun, and like I said, was very humorous to watch.

My favorite question was "Why '96' Tears? Why not 97?"

hehe...

Subject: Re: Eva CD's

There may be some confusion about some of the items being discussed
lately... somebody was asking earlier about the Michigan Mixture comps.
These were lps put out ca. the late '80s (give or take a few years) and
contain extremely rare Michigan psych 45s including artists like The
Orange Wedge, Up, Dick Rabbit, Glass Sun, Pitch Blende, etc. Some of the
cuts are on other comps now, but these have never been on cd and generally
aren't that easy to find. A friend of mine put them out and still has
copies as far as I know...

There is a Michigan comp on an Eva cd (originally an lp) too, containing
more garage oriented stuff.

Then there was a cd called Michigan Mayhem, which is a recent issue by the
guy who did "Let 'Em Have It," a pretty crudely done comp of stuff both
rare and not so rare. These both have more familiar (and comped elsewhere
in better sound, in some cases) artists including the Rationals
(represented by several unreleased tracks). These comps were both
mastered on audiocassettes at home, by the way. I imagine they can both
still be had through the usual sources.

Oh and way earlier there were a couple (or 3?) "Highs In the Mid-60s"
lps of Michigan garage, mostly pretty good stuff but somewhat spotty
sound-wise. These are probably still around from Bomp for not a lot of
dough.

I probably have missed a couple things (The Cicadelic and Collectables
comps of Wheel's 4 material, boots of the Best of the Hideouts and Friday
at the Cage A Go Go lps, When the Time Run out (isn't this a Mich. comp.?)
side two of The Chosen Few Vol. 2..., "Thee Unheard Of" a comp of supposed
acetates (though it turns out that the acetates were made in the '80s from
original rare 45s and falsely represented as vintage unreleased items)

Just wanted to add this info in case some of the similar titles and groups
on these comps were confusing anybody.

Frank (from Michigan!)

Sonny has some cool wax if you look for it, though. Trashy, but cool...

Solo 45s (all on Atco ca. the mid-60s):

"Laugh At Me," his solo semi-hit is fun, talking about how he's going to
follow his own path even if folks laugh at him (what a f*&%in' rebel!
Remember, he looked pretty damn radical around 1965 with his fab
caveman vest (which even Moulty and the Barbarians mention in their 45
"What the New Breed Say"!)

"The Revolution Kind," sort of a follow up and even more amusing, I think.

"Pammie's on a Bummer," a heavy one (!)

Also Sonny and Cher cut a groovin' Spectorish cover of the Zombies' "Leave
Me Be" which I totally dig. (Sonny hung out with Spector and played on
some of Phil's classic sessions).

These may not make up for years of Republicanism, but they need to be
recognized nonetheless. And they're just the ones I've happened across,
I'm sure there are more.

Frank
