Thanks for the correction, I love to be wrong like this, since I find
something out. Incidentally, isn't "Girl Around..." a great, but really
odd song?

Hello BOMP!ers. A heavy Rockabilly-influenced show this week (tho'
admittedly not the best of the genre...) Reading my mail today (I'm
on line at work, so weekend posts don't get answered 'til Monday or
Tuesday), I saw Wes' query about the Move. The only thing I know fer
sure is the refrain:
- -Let's go for a walk upon the water
- -Let's go for a stroll upon the sea
- -First one follow me.
I had a MASSIVE earache during this show and with pain killers at hand.

It was a great show. I saw my friend Sascha the next day and he said, "Well,
I saw GOD last night!". The boy's been waiting about 15 years to see them (or
at least since the ROIR tape came out) and was incredibly jealous last year
when I went to Gutterfest.

You just had your first Captain PJ experience!!!! PJ lives in or around
Worcester, has a RADIO SHOW (!!!!) out there, and comes to town, usually to
see the Lyres, the Brood or the Time Beings. And, yes, he does this at EVERY

I think I have the address on a card at work. Will try and bring it home toniite
and forward address. The artists that I listed are all on 1 tape. They and many
more are spread over 3 videos. Searchers Hollies Tremeloes Foundations Brian Auger
etc are also on these. 50-75% of each tape is to die for. Another 10% is really
good to have and the remainder is unnecessary, IMHO. NOW...when last I saw this
guy (Nov.) he said he was thinkin about stopping sales. He's been at it awhile. He
said that he would honor sales through Jan. I think, and may then cut back. But
it's worth the mailing. I just got the first Volume of Beat Beat Beat in the mail
last week, as well as one called Garage Group Rarities, which isn't as in depth as
we'd like it but clip each of Remains ? & the Mysterians, Seeds etc.JJ

I *loved* the Godfathers... I only got to see them live twice, but their
first two albums were great! The third and fourth albums were uneven but
still had some good tracks. "How Does It Feel..." is one of my favorites,
though I hadn't noticed it was a cover (Trouser Press online confirms this
is indeed the Creation song).

I was also a big fan of just about anything produced by Vic Maile (Eddie &
The Hot Rods, Screaming Blue Messiahs, etc.) -- I once picked up an album
by a band I hadn't heard of (The Hangmen, I think) just because he'd
produced it. After reading the TP entry on the Godfathers I'm thinking I
should brush up on my Dr. Feelgood. Does anyone recall how he died? I
know it was back in the early '90s, but I never saw any articles about what
happened. Any other Vic Maile gems out there that I should look for?

Evan

Subject: The Shoes

I posted a request for info on the Shoes early releases to the Audities
List, and received the following response from David Bash...

Heads Or Tails was a 10 song ep that was recorded, but never released,
during the summer of 1974, and One In Versailles (dedicated to member
Gary Klebe who was studying architecture in France and was therefore the
"one in Versailles") was recorded in late 74/early 75. One In Versailles
was put on vinyl by the band and self-released in a limited edition of
1,000 copies. A good number of them sold in local record stores, but
soon afterward most of those the band had left over were destroyed in a
flood, making it one of the most collectible pop records of all time.
Greg Shaw had provided me with a tape of the album, but I could never
find one until, on a tip from
Jordan Oakes (of Yellow Pills magazine) I bought one in 1994 for $300 (I
was making money at the time-I couldn't dream of doing something like
that now!). It comes in a plain white sleeve, but does contain photos
and a lyric sheet that you can't get anywhere else!

After Klebe came back to Illinois in the summer of 75 Shoes recorded
Bazooka, but had never released it. Until the "As Is" CD, that is!

For those of you who don't know, "As Is" is a two CD set, disc one of
which contains outtakes and rarities from throughout Shoes career, all
hand picked by the band for inclusion on this disc. Disc two contains all
of "One In Versailles" and "Bazooka". "One In Versailles" is a wonderful
album IMHO, rudimentary to be sure, but containing many of the melodies
and structures that Shoes would soon come to be identified with. I don't
think Bazooka is quite as good, but there are some strong tracks on it.

I'd highly recommend that any Shoes fan or power pop fan in general pick
up "As Is". From what I remember, Black Vinyl (the Shoes label) was
charging $45 for the package, and although that's a lot of money, it is a
limited edition set and your purchase would greatly help Shoes keep Black
Vinyl Records going!

Be seeing you,
Bill

The early '90's British "shoegazer" band Ride did a credible version of
"How Does It Feel To Feel" as well (for Creation Records even) though it's
missing the falsetto harmony voice and Eddie Phillips' strangled
harmonics.

Thanks for trying on those lyrics, Alex. I noticed you played a track off
of Wizzard's EDDY & THE FALCONS LP. Is it any good?
