could someone please post a recent set-list by the Lyres, or make a good
guess at one. I'd love to know what kind of stuff they're doing these days.
I missed them by a day in Boston in '95.and since their one of my fave
bands ever, I wasn't too pleased by that! Also, if anyone has any news of
any upcoming lps by the Lyres please let us know. Also any John Felice
news greatly appreciated.

Subject: Radio Rumpus Room playlist, 1/9/98

Howdy folks,

Here's the playlist for Radio Rumpus Room, KFAI-FM in Minneapolis/St. Paul,
for Friday, January 9, 1998:

SAVVY SHOW STARTER (always locally recorded!)
Unbelievable Uglies -- Research Into The Soul Of Psychedelic Sound
(Everything You Always Wanted To Know About '60s Mind Expansive Punkadelic
Garage Rock Instrumentals But Were Afraid To Ask, Arf! Arf!)

From deep in the heart of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota came the Unbelievable
Uglies. This twisted, perverted take on psychedelic music proves -- at
least -- they were masters of sampling... we're just not sure what EXACTLY
was being sampled when they recorded this. The Uglies released 11 singles
during the mid-Sixties, this being the B-side of their '67 "Spider Man"
7-inch on the Independence label.

Chambers Brothers -- I Can't Stand It (Time Has Come: Best Of..., Columbia
Legacy)
Creation -- Making Time (Psychedelic Visions, Temple)
Young Fresh Fellows -- I Just Sit There (Bonograph: Sonny Gets His Share, Bogus)

OUR "PRO BONO" SET (THANKS SONNY...)
Cynics -- I Got You Babe (Bonograph: Sonny Gets His Share, Bogus)
Searchers -- Needles And Pins (The Searchers, Pye)
Otis Ball -- Laugh At Me (Bonograph: Sonny Gets His Share, Bogus)

A MAN AND HIS CAR SET
Untamed Youth -- My General Lee (My General Lee/Tidewater Jack split
7-inch, Gearhead)
Tom Waits -- Ol' 55 (The Early Years Vol.2, Bizarre/Straight)
Howie Stange -- This Old Bomb Of Mine (Hot Rod Gang, Buffalo Bop)
Customs -- Nifty Fifty (Hot Rod City, Sundazed reissue of Vault LP)

Delstars -- Tantor! (The Sound Of Power, Revco)
Looney Tunes -- The Cruel Sea (Cool Surfin', Sympathy For The Record Industry)
Dex Romweber/Simon Chardiet -- Torquay (Two Great Guitars 7-inch, Norton)
Jim Messina & The Jesters -- Yang Bu (The Dragsters, Surf [boot])

TO JOHNNY PRESTON (FOR NO PARTICULAR REASON) SET
Still Little Fingers -- Running Bear (All The Best, Chrysalis)
Jimmies -- El Paso (Cheap, Blood Red)
Clash -- Jail Guitar Doors (The Clash, Epic)
Sham 69 -- Hersham Boys (Hersham Boys, DOJO reissue)

Freakwater -- Great Titanic (self-titled, Amoeba)
Jon Langford -- My Own Worst Enemy (Old South Wales, Sugar Free)

How's about "Green Fuz" by Randy Alvey?

Rhino left off-
'Emotions'
'Gazing'
'Colored Balls Falling'
'Mushroom Clouds'
'And More'

I would have left 'Emotions' and 'Hey Joe' off. Also, 'No. Fourteen',
'Your Mind And We Belong Together', and 'Laughing Stock'.

If mono is good enough for Phil Spector and Brian Wilson, it's good
enough for me.

IMHO, the best way to listen to music is coming out of one speaker and
bouncing off of the windshield! Kids today, I tell ya, they spend more
on the stereo than they do on the car and it still sounds awful!

Shepherd's law #1-The louder the stereo, the worse the music.

Time for my nap.

remix of "Living Eyes." Fantastic production and great songs. It's a
little pricey (I paid $22 at Venus),

With all these recommendations of recent Birdman live stuff flying
around (ha, ha,"flying around"....) I just gotta tell ya' that the disc to
look for is the "Murder City Nights" boot C.D. of the Double Jay Studio
live stuff from '76/'77. ALL the great early tracks are there, with some
otherwise unrecorded covers. There was a guy selling them out of Japan for
about $16 U.S.,which IS a great deal,especially for a boot c.d. I don't
know If he still has any..but it would be worth a try.As for the "re-union"
shows....aw man,"Radio's Appear" was 21 YEARS ago...what's the point?? You
could hear them running out of steam by the second L.P. I REALLY want to
see a middle aged Rob Younger, probably even more bald now than then, leaping
around the stage trying to look "angry".

Actually I always thought that Ace Kefford Stand's version of "For
Your Love" was fairly myndblowing garage-psych. It's on the Perfumed
Garden Vol 2 comp. As to the flip side, don't think I've heard it but I
did hear that it's supposed to be weak...
I believe bassist Rick Price made a very lightweight pop lp on the UK
President lp around '71.
