Well, if I had a choice, I'd listen to WFMU,'Coffee and Smokes' or Kopper's
show. For some reason I can't pick them up in my car.

Does anybody ever listen to that 'Annoying Songs' program that I keep
hearing about?

Yesterday I've seen the Demolition Doll Rods in Milan (Italy), what a show,
I really liked them, a great rock'n'roll set. Here in Italy i can't go
often to see good shows like the yesterday one. We usually have an average
of one good show in three or four months (the last one was the Fleshtones
in september), but this saturday we also have the Huevos Rancheros and the
Duotang. It seems a good week for me.

no that was the point of my joke, the Fugitives is practically the most
overused 'tuff' name for a garage band. Like if you were going to make
up a humorous fake garage band name it'd be something like the
Fugitives, Bugs, or Thee Royal Coachmen.

Uh uh. That's a guy assumption. However, a powerful guy who believes H.

Now, I'm of the opinion that Sonny and Bill were more along the lines of

One track of theirs leaked out on a comp called "In the Beginning" (EMI)
which featured William Joel 9that Billy thing is just showbiz!) with his
band doing "Night After Day". It's a bit morose in that "I'm young but
take me seriously, dagnabbit!" vein, but I'd rather that than "The Longest
Time". Other tracks of interest were Jeff Lynne in Idle Race ("Skeleton
Roundabout") Davy Jones (Bowie) and the Lower Third ("You've Got a Habit of
Leaving").

Hey glam fans: glom on this--------there's a band from Ma. called the =
Johnnies. They just put a record out. (c.d. only for now ) They draw =
from a variety of influences, but glam is definately present. The record =
is a little polished, filled with hooks, good satirical songwriting, =
biting Johnny Thunders riffs, power pop dynamics and plenty of punk =
rock. Any band with a guitarist named Dee Stroy has to have some edge, =
and they do. They entice you with a richly textured sweet melody and rip =
your throat out all in the same song!!!!!!!!! They lace sleaze with =
harmony, choruses and songcraft that rival Slade and early Undertones. =
The Johnnies may not appeal to some of the 77 punk rock purists. But for =
those of us who appreciate punks' precursors and can tolerate quality =
production--------this is refreshing!!!!!!!!! It may be hard to find. =
They put the record out on thier own label: LoMag. They get E-Mail at =
LOMAG000@AOL.COM

Has anyone heard of a band called The Scabs. I have an ep. by them with =
a couple good songs, "Amory Building" being the best. I believe they =
were from England and the ep. came out in '78. They use an organ and =
some strange kind of a horn and manage to get away with it on two of the =
songs. Most bands that have tried this blow for even thinking of such an =
attempt at "artiness". I 'm curious if they put anything else out and if =
it got any better or worse. Judging from the ep. I have ----they could =
of gone in either direction.

Again, not to do anything as tacky as promo, but has anyone noticed that on
the latest Bomp mailorder list, prices on CDs have dropped to $5 on most
titles, and across the board on everything in our catalog. Just thought I'd
mention it--this sale won't last forever.

Maybe yes, maybe no. My folks had pretty dismal taste in music, but they
loved Broadway shows, and I still love to listen to 'West Side Story',
'Camelot', 'The Pajama Game', and others.

Some artists I have turned my kids (now age 13 & 21) onto over the last ten
years:

Fountains of Wayne
They Might Be Giants
The Chieftans
The Feelies
The Ramones (easy one)
Jimi Hendrix
Shadows of Knight
Miles Davis (!)
Yma Sumac (!!)
Beatles (probably would have happened without me).

Some artists I have failed to turn them onto:

Rolling Stones
Hank Williams
Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys
Bob Dylan (except "Subterranean Homesick Blues")
Any kind of Blues (Delta, Chicago, etc)

And to be fair, stuff my kids have turned me onto:

Nirvana (they really were great)
Weezer (my fave band of the last 5 years)
Oasis (they *don't* sound like the Beatles. They don't).

and if I weren't so old and cranky, there'd probably be some more...

A break in the Fresh Air segment on Maine Public Radio last year played
"Eastern Jam" by Country Joe and the Fish. Best of all, it was the very
cool part where you can hear Barry Melton flip the switch on the fuzz box,
and then go into overdrive. I almost drove off the road.
