Subject: Bruce Springsteeen's first garage band from 1965

Bruce Springsteen's first band, the Castiles, recorded two excellent
folk/garage songs back in 1965 called "Baby I" and "That's What You Get." Too
bad that these couldn't be released as a single.

I think it was Kirk on this list that told me that the bassist for the
Demolition Doll Rods (Dan Knohn... seen on the cover of their "Tasty" LP
in a skimpy red bikini) was also in The Gories, as was Mick Collins, who
wrote some of the Doll Rods' songs (but isn't *in* the band) and is also
seen on the cover of the "Tasty" LP, taking a big bite outta that hot
dog.

I saw the Demolition Doll Rods open for Guitar Wolf and The Cramps here
a coupla months ago... it was a great VISUAL show (and if you've seen
'em live I'm sure you know what I mean), but the music was kinda
boring... a little too slow. I think I actually like their record
better.

Yeah, it was a VW commercial, I think. I'm not sure if it's still airing
or not. The song was "Da Da Da I Don't Love You - You Don't Love Me Aha
Aha Aha" and is from their Trio & Error LP (Mercury/1983). Very
obscure/primitive (just vocals, guitar & drums) German band. The garage
connection is obvious although the music was pretty slow/downbeat. The
Oblivians cover one of their songs (Sunday You Need Love) on their Soul
Food LP (Crypt), but I'm not sure what Trio album that appeared on...
anyone?

Hey Bompers,

Been thinkin' 'bout those rare occasions when watching "mainstream" TV or
movies gives you a special treat in the form of a cool song, image or
reference. This past fall, I was watching the Monday Night Football game
between the Packers and the New England Patriots. When one of the
commentators was blabbing between plays, I caught the stadium PA blaring
the Standells' "Dirty Water"!

Grog and the Knurlings also told me that in the movie, "Major League" with
Charlie Sheen, someone has noticed a quick shot of a fan wearing a
Fuzztones T-shirt.

Anybody out there got more examples of unexpected coolness?

Easily amused,

Rocky.

During the Atlanta Olympics there was supposed to be a Nike ad with the

"Search and Destroy" for background. Did anyone ever see this or is it
an
urban myth?

Oh heck yeah! I don't knock the kids dancing on the table and carrying on,
but it would be nuts for a band to assume that if people WEREN'T doing
that, they weren't digging the music, ya know?

Now, if everyone's sitting around tables at the back, trying to talk
through the show, that's something else again... Heh!

Oblivians actually cover two trio songs, Sunday You Need Love and Ja, Ja, Ja.
Oblivians' versions appear on Soul Food and they also put out a single
with those two songs on it. Both of those songs originally appeared on
Trio's first album, just called Trio, definitely worth picking up.

Hey, I'd pay good money for a copy of the video of "Boom Boom"! Anyone
remember that? Very spaghetti western stuff, weird as hell! I LOVED it!

I have a question for you Boston area natives. I want to go to the
Neckbreakers/Woggles show on the 7th and I was wondering: should I bother
to get tickets ahead of time or can I just show up and pay my way in?
It's a pain in the ass to get tickets ahead of time so this could make
things a lot easier for me and my friends. Any info or advice would be
helpful. Thanks

Will try and confirm this during the week, I'm meeting BW for lunch.

Was gonna reply with the answers here, glad I scrolled down. So, I guess I'd just
like to echo what Marcus says about the album (Trio) being very worthwhile to
grab.
I see it around fairly often for short money.
