For a long time, whenever I heard 'Smokestack Lightning', I couldn't help but think of the black guy sat on a frieght train drinking Budweiser. I wonder if Eric or anybody else on this list remembers that Subaru ad a few years back which had a prototypical Gen-X slacker saying that his car was "like punk rock!" Mercifully, I've never actually seen that commercial. I just heard and read about it and that alone was more than my digestion could handle. That particular ad, by the way, came out right around '92 or so, right after Nirvana's NEVERMIND had broken punk/indie/alternative into the mainstream and the entertainment, media and culture industry execs were starting to catch on to what a marketable commodity "punk rock" could be.
