Not really sure... it was the first time they played Maxwells. I don't even remember who they were opening for. Anyway, all I remember was how much I hated them. I'd gone back to watch them because one of the members was Dan Kroha (ex-Gories, who I'd been nuts about when they used to play NYC on a regular basis). Well... after a few songs, I'd had enough. I went out by the jukebox and ran into a few people I knew. One of 'em used to live in Detroit and had also been a major Gories' nut. Well, seeing *her* out there surprised me. Then she said to me, "What's the matter? Not worth watching Margaret with her clothes on? ;-)" (In 1990, the Gories had played a weekend in the NYC area and Margaret had ended up taking her top off and dancing all over... but that story was in Teen Scene #1.) Seriously... the music was awful. Fast forward to December '96. The Demolition Doll Rods were opening for Andre Williams at Maxwells. I decided I'd give 'em another chance... and I was quite surprised. Suddenly they were sounding pretty good to my ears. I *liked* 'em! Definitely fun. The near-nakedness had nothing to do with it...
