Subject: DDRs

The first time I saw the Demolition Doll Rods must've been in '95 or so.
Not really sure... it was the first time they played Maxwells. I don't
even remember who they were opening for. Anyway, all I remember was how
much I hated them. I'd gone back to watch them because one of the members
was Dan Kroha (ex-Gories, who I'd been nuts about when they used to play
NYC on a regular basis). Well... after a few songs, I'd had enough.

I went out by the jukebox and ran into a few people I knew. One of 'em
used to live in Detroit and had also been a major Gories' nut. Well,
seeing *her* out there surprised me. Then she said to me, "What's the
matter? Not worth watching Margaret with her clothes on? ;-)" (In 1990,
the Gories had played a weekend in the NYC area and Margaret had ended up
taking her top off and dancing all over... but that story was in Teen
Scene #1.)

Seriously... the music was awful.

Fast forward to December '96. The Demolition Doll Rods were opening for
Andre Williams at Maxwells. I decided I'd give 'em another chance... and
I was quite surprised. Suddenly they were sounding pretty good to my
ears. I *liked* 'em! Definitely fun. The near-nakedness had nothing to
do with it... I liked the music.

Subject: Dictators

Hello,

A tragedy recently happened to me, that is some jerk friend of mine lost my copy of one
of my favorite records of all time,Dictators´ "Fuck ´em if they can´t take a joke".

I have checked with different sources in Spain and I couldnt find it anywhere, nor have
anyone been able to assure me the record will be available through them.

I also checked at Cdnow.com with no success.

Does anyone know where could I order it in the United States if available?

Also,I am looking for the CD version of Dictators´ "I am right" 7", wich I beleive
carries a previously unreleased song.

And now that we are on the Dictatorss´ thing.....does anyone know an e-mail where I
could contact any of the guys at the band? (maybe Shernoff at NY´s Coyote Studios???).

Thanks in advance pals.

Any and all Bomp-ers are cordially invited to e-mail me directly anytime if

preferable to posting messages to the list inquiring as to the whereabouts

Hey, this is a *great* song! It really stood out when I saw MT with the
Lyres at "Maxwells" last fall. I heard it on the radio a couple of weeks
ago... funny thing was, the dj started it at the wrong speed, and at 33 1/3
it sounded a lot like that song "Seven" that the Lyres do. (Could well be
someone else's song... my nouveau garage is showing again.)

Speaking of which, some of you may recall that back in December I mentioned
a weekly radio show that airs on WHTG in NJ called "the Barrage from the
Garage." This is where I heard "Amazon Queen" a couple of weeks ago, and
this past weekend the dj announced an upcoming live show featuring the
Omega Men, Bent Scepters, and Mondo Topless! It's not definite yet, but it
looks like it'll be happening on Thursday April 2 at the Saint in Asbury
Park NJ.

Apparently I can still post to the list and so Argyris asked me to forward

Okay, I can't answer that question, but this entire discussion of
cool-music-being-used-to-for-the-profit-of-corporate-America just makes
me think that some people on this list don't really know what they
want. On one hand, people are bitching that the kids just don't get it,
that they wish the kids would discover music that's better than Hanson
and Bush. Now there's this bitter tone be taken because better music is
finding its way into some kids lives via tv commercial. Granted, Nike
et al. might have abominable ethics and business practises and it's nice
to (and I would) hope that if an artist owned the rights to the songs
and disagreed with the company's politics that they wouldn't let them
use the material in a commercial. But let's face it, sometimes they
just don't care -- not long ago, rock stars weren't known for their
morals (remember those good ol' days, back before everyone got so damn
uptight and expected musicians to be role models)....sometimes they just
need the money, and selling music is their job.

I guess what I'm saying is that someone out there should be applauded
for having the wherewithall to recognise and seek out quality songs for
tv commercials...otherwise there'd be nothing but the Pepsi jingles by
the Spice Girls.

I'm not sure, but I heard the drummer from the Demolition Doll Rods is

My favorite instance of "unexpected coolness" comes in "Star Trek: First

Allthough I cannot provide any info about fixing up your organs (if I could I

that your Teischord organ was indeed manufactured by Teisco and if its
anything like my Teisco Checkmate it should be well worth getting fixed. The
Checkmate is a small portable organ that folds into a thin suitcase. It has a
unique sort of high, thin tone and a really kooky vibrato sound that I really
dig.

I say buy it real cheap and take it to a tech. Those things usually don't cost
much to get running. My recollection is those had cool stands too. If it
doesn't have the stand, you should be able to get it REAL cheap. On another
organ note, I posted something here a month ago about a Doric organ I had
found. Organ guru Dave Amels informs me the Doric is the little cousin to the
Howard organ pictured in those Music Machine performance photos on their sheet

Subject: Radio Rumpus Room playlist, 1/30/98

Radio Rumpus Room broadcasts Fridays at 9-10:30 p.m. on KFAI Fresh Air
Radio, FM 90.3 (Minneapolis) and 106.7 (St. Paul). (And hey, do I have to
say we're having way too much fun doing this thing!?!)

Following is the Radio Rumpus Room playlist for Friday, January 30, 1998:

SAVVY SHOW STARTER (always locally recorded!)

Thee Viceroys -- Viceroy Stomp (self-titled, Eat Rock Stars)
Equal parts Sunset Strip-period Standells and "Gloria" era Them, these
snotty (but well-dressed) Minneapolis punks are keeping the Sixties beat
alive in these Twin Cities. Their self-titled LP, which came out late last
year, is one big Havahart trap, capturing their live-like sound without
hardly hurtin' it any. Just don't stick your friggin' fingers in there!

Young Fresh Fellows -- When The Girls Get Here (The Men Who Loved Music,
Frontier)
Rod & The Satalites -- She Cares (Drink Beer, Yell, Dance!, Ecco-fonic)
Javalins -- Javalins Rock (Surfbeat Behind The Iron Curtain, AIP)
Nightingales -- Private Party (Girls In The Garage Vol.7, Romulan)

ALMOST TOO PRETTY FOR THIS SHOW...
Troggs -- Everything's Funny (Archeology, 1966-1976; Fontana)
Otis Redding -- Mary's Little Lamb (The Otis Redding Story, Atlantic)
Keith Moon -- Don't Worry Baby (Two Sides Of The Moon, Mausoleum reissue)
Dave Edmunds -- London's A Lonely Town (Pebbles Vol.4, AIP)

Adrian & The Sunsets -- Pipeline (Breakthrough, Surf reissue)
Bobby Fuller -- The Chase (Shakedown!, Del-fi)
Delstars -- 400 Hawaiian Shirts (The Sound Of Power, Revco)
Space Cossacks -- Space Probe (Space Cossacks/Fathoms split 7-inch, MuSick)

FEELING A LITTLE LIGHTHEADED, ARE WE?...
Vejtables -- Time And Place (Feel...The Vejtables, Sundazed)
David McWilliams -- Days Of Pearly Spencer (Psychedelic Perceptions, Temple)
E-Types -- Put The Clock Back On The Wall (Introducing...The E-Types, Sundazed)
Painted Faces -- Anxious Color (Pebbles Vol.4, ESD)
Others -- Look Through My Window (Ugly Things -- The CD; Raven)

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES...
Buck Owens -- Number One Heel (Before You Go/No One But You, Sundazed reissue)
Muleskinner -- White House Blues (self-titled, Sierra reissue)
Buck Owens -- Trouble And Me (Tiger By The Tail, Sundazed reissue)
Robbie Fulks -- I Told Her Lies (South Mouth, Bloodshot)

Derailers -- Come Back (Reverb Deluxe, Watermelon/Sire)
Ray Campi Quartet -- Hot Water (Train Rhythm Blue, Mouthpiece/Sci-Fi Western)
Jimmie Dale Gilmore -- Honky Tonk Song (self-titled, Demon)
