They were indeed Brazilian, and the cut you mentioned is from their
self-titled first LP from 1968. The entire Os Mutantes catalog has been
seeing the light of day on CD on Brazilian Polydor, and a few copies of
the CDs have been trickling into the US, creating a bit of a frenzy
among fans of South American music and great sixties music alike.
Aquarius records (where I bought mine) in San Francisco and Other Music
in New York were two of the stores that carried them (I have no idea if
either store has them in stock at the moment). I have the CD reissues
of the first three (released in '68, '69, '70) LPs, and think all three
are great and extremely worthwhile, though I would suggest that the
first one is the best starting point (especially if that is the cut you
heard and liked). The songs are catchy as well as varied (all their
material is sung in Portuguese), with liberal doses of fuzz cropping up
more so on the first LP than the later ones. Their music tends to
combine oddly placed familiar riffs ("Satisfaction" and "Wooly Bully"
rear their heads) with more abstract compositional twists and turns
that, on the whole, just sounds incredibly fresh to a jaded ear.
Creative pop music at its best. Apparently they are/were quite popular
in their Native country.

Them Belfast Gypsies emerged from the ashes of Them (has anyone ever
thoroughly chronicled all the incarations of the various splinters and
fragments of the "Them" related groups? What a complicated
discography), and recorded with Kim Fowley, resulting in the song you
mentioned (which was released on 45 in the US on Loma with "Gloria's
Dream" as the flip), which was also included on their Swedish only LP
from '67 (?). This LP was reissued in the late 70s by Sonet (with
tinted/altered sleeve artwork), and again in the late 80s, with the
original unaltered LP cover art. There was also a CD issue, but I don't
know if it is still in print. A great LP, and worth picking up. By the
way, "Secret Police" is currently available on a collection of Kim
Fowley solo work/productions, 'Outlaw Superman' on Dionysus Records.

Yep, he did a bond issue for $55 Million secured against the
revenue from his back catalog. ie. he borrowed $55 million
on Wall Street and intends to pay it back over the next
5 years from his royalties.

If you're interested give a broker a ring and ask them for
a price, personally I'm not sure that it would be great
investment

I like the album a lot. Raunchy rock'n'roll is about the best description
I can think of. Not really garage, not really punk, but definitely
load, fast, rock'n'roll. If that's your bag then pick it up, its worth
it if only for the cover.

I heard about it a couple of years ago, I don't know if he's still
listed or how successful the stock is. Ask Louis Rukeyser.

That's OS MUTANTES and they are quite celebrated amongst in the know
musicians since Kurt Cobain "discovered them" on a trip to Brazil, and he
made plans to record with them and bring them to the States and other
stuff. Thru him they became friends with Fugazi and other bands. Funny, to
me their music (psych/garage) is nothing like the headbanging crap of those
US bands. Anyway some of their albums have been reissued in Brazil but I
haven't seem them listed anywhere for sale.

the Belfast Gypsies were supposedly Them after Van Morrison left; they had
an album released only in Sweden, and EP, and a couple of singles, all
recorded under the ausipices of Kim Fowley, who also does vocals on "Secret
Police". The album (on Sonet) has never been out of print. "Secret Police"
may be heard on a (highly recommended) compilation of Kim's early/weird
productions, called OUTLAW SUPERMAN and released a few weeks ago by
Dionysus. It's got 32 tracks all genius.

On the same off topic-

Psychotronic #4 has a guide to mondo movies that lists something called
JABBERWALK. Made in '73, it's also known as MONDO AMERICA and THIS IS
AMERICA. It's a look at America from a European perspective. The
story also says that it features The Dictators making mincemeat out of
'God Bless America'!

Is this still available? Can anyone tape me a copy?

Nope. Forbes sez Bowie's worth $900 million(!) and McCartney is "only"
worth 750 million or so.

I guess Tin Machine sold more records than I thought they did.

Do people with this much money have a special room full cash so they
can dive in, roll around and go WOOO-HOOO just like Scrooge McDuck?

Not shares, but something akin to bonds. Essentially, when you're "buying" a
piece of Bowie you're purchasing the right to participate in any future income
derived from the exploitation of his catalogue. I don't know to what extent
the catalogue has been sold, but in any event it's kinda disgusting and I'm
gonna go listen to the No Talents and forget about that clown....
