I didn't purchase this serie when it first came out a few years ago, but I
should have, really...Vol. 3, 4 and 11 have recently been reissued, the
packaging is superb, the sound is more than good (it seems that that it was
not the case of the first pressing) , and the tracks are just PURE
GEMS...love them, really ! As far as I remember, vol.3 and 4 are rather
garage/psy orientated, whereas vol. 11 is pure psy madness...I can't wait
for the reissue of the rest of the serie, which should be done all along
1998.
Talking about comps, I was wondering if some of you have purchased the
"Marijuana Unknowns" comp...good stuff? crappy hippie/progressive stuff ?
and what about the "Acid Dreams" box set ?

Subject: Radio Rumpus Room playlist of 2/6/98

Howdy folks! Here's the Radio Rumpus Room playlist for Friday, February 6,
1998:

(Radio Rumpus Room broadcasts Fridays at 9-10:30 p.m. on KFAI Fresh Air
Radio, FM 90.3/Minneapolis and 106.7/St. Paul.)

SAVVY SHOW STARTER (always locally recorded!)
The Devilles -- Mama's Baby (Hipsville Vol.3: The Return Of The Frozen Few;
Kramden)

In mid-Sixties Duluth the Devilles vied with port-city legends the Titans
in crowd-drawing power. According to the essential-to-Midwest-garagehounds
"Lost And Found, Vol.5: Northern Minnesota,"* grand plans for their Paul
Revere & The Raiders-sounding single "Mama's Baby" kind of fell apart when
a wily vixen of a female promoter convinced the young lads to abandon their
then-current manager (the long-toiling father of one of the bandmembers)
with promises of massive distribution, TV appearances and -- most
interestingly -- "the opportunity to record the theme song for Ski-Doo
snowmobiles." Of course none of it ever happened. To add insult to injury,
the spurned manager/dad who legally owned their third single destroyed all
but two dozen of the 3,000 disc pressing of "Mama's Baby," sealing for good
their bid for fame and fortune.(The band never really recovered from this,
uh, learning experience.) Interestingly, Sundazed is promising to release
individual albums by both Duluth bands -- the Titans ("Reveille Rock" and
"No Place Special") and the Devilles -- sometime during 1998.

Headstones -- 24 Hours (Everyday) (Texas Punk Vol.5: Journey To Pharaoh's
Valley, Cicadelic)
Wheels -- Tell Me (I'm Gonna Love Again) (Belfast Beat Maritime Blues, Big Beat)
Bobby Fuller Four -- Cheat and Lie (Never To Be Forgotten BF4 box set, Del-fi)
Free For All -- Show Me The Way (Pebbles Vol.5, BFD)

Zombies -- She's Not There (Tell Her No/She's Not There 7-inch, London)
Byrds -- Child Of The Universe (Dr.Byrds And Mr. Hyde, Columbia)
Pride And Joy -- If You're Ready (If You're Ready: Best Of Dunwich Records
Vol.2; Sundazed)
Golden Palominos -- Omaha (Omaha 7-inch, Celluloid)

FROM THE FIRST SURF AGE...
Lifely Ones -- Surf Beat (Wild Surf!, Del-fi)
Belairs -- Kamikazi (Belairs: The Origin of Surf, 1960-1963; Iloki)
Surfaris -- High Tide (Surfaris Stomp, Varese Sarabande)
Frogmen -- Underwater (Cowabunga! surf box, Rhino)

IT'S OFF TO THE "WORLD OF WHEELS" IN ST. PAUL
Beach Boys -- Custom Machine (Little Deuce Coupe, Capitol)
Super Stocks -- Little Stick Nomad (SS: The Complete Recordings, One Way)
Untamed Youth -- Two Wheel Show Stopper (Planet Mace, Estrus)
Beach Boys -- Cherry Cherry Coupe (Little Deuce Coupe, Capitol)

AND DON'T FORGET YOUR VEGETABLES, KIDS...
Great Society -- You Can't Cry (Grace Slick & The Great Society, Columbia)
Tomorrow -- Revolution (Psychedelic Visions, Temple)
Country Joe & The Fish -- Sector 43 (Electric Music For The Mind And Body,
Vanguard)

AND NOW, A CURIOUS KITCHEN APPLIANCE ANALOGY...
Charlie Feathers -- Defrost Your Heart (The Sun Box, Charly)
Derailers -- Raspberry Beret (Reverb Deluxe, Watermelon/Sire)

Is there a tour schedule for ? ?
With a recommendation like that.....

Does anyone know how to get ahold of Joe Carducci? He owned Systematic Record Dist. in
the early 80s, then worked with Greg Ginn at SST. He wrote a book or two a few years
ago... I knew him in the Portland days. Do a web search. You'll see who I mean.

Finally, my buddy Otis swapped Thunders' 1980 The Paul for his own 59 Les Paul Junior.
The The Paul was highly adorned and had pink contact paper on front, snakeskin on the edge,
and a 'coon tail on the end. Personally I thought it was a lousy trade, but Thunders was
Otis' absolute idol. According to him, it's "Little Animals Make Fun".

Then end.
