What about the Box Tops? They reunited last year, the original lineup with
Alex Chilton, and at least as recently as November were doing gigs. There
was a review of one of their shows in "Mojo" magazine.

Speaking of concert reviews, did anyone see the review of the Mysterians
show at Coney Island High, in "Rolling Stone"?? Even has a photograph.
Pretty positive review...

Subject: Artists give Motown picks

Apparently there's a new Motown collection being released this week to
celebrate the labels 40th year....anyway, these are some artists
favourite Motown songs....thought some of you might be interested in
what Wayne Kramer and Rob Ardent had to say about their picks......
- --kelso

Martha Reeves: "My favorite Motown song? That's not difficult; it's
'Dancing in the Street.' I feel that that's the anthem of the Motown
sound. Whenver you mention Motown, that's the song that's played.''
Levi Stubbs, the Four Tops: "'My Girl' by the Temptations, because it
was a genuine song. It was real, and they did such a tremendous job with
it. It's a classic.''
Otis Williams, the Temptations: "I just couldn't pick one. Let's be real
. . . I can start off with 'My Girl' but then I can go to 'I Can't Help
Myself.' I can go to 'What's Going On.' How can you pick just one? I'm a
big Motown fan; I can't pick just one. The list is endless when you talk
about Motown songs.''
Rick James: I don't have one favorite, but definitely if I start putting
together a Motown compilation for myself, 'Tracks of My Tears' is right
up there.''
Kim Weston: "My favorite Motown song is one by me called 'Just Loving
You.' It's not the traditional Motown sound; it's like a blues-jazz. At
that time, Motown didn't promote it because they felt like it was too
jazzy. But that's what your Babyfaces and people are doing now. I guess
I was a little before my time.''
Ted Nugent: "I would probably say 'Ain't That Peculiar' or 'Can I Get a
Witness' by Marvin Gaye. It's the spirit of it all; at the time, I was
so moved by all things Motown. I was a pre-teen, hitchhiking to the
Kensington Park beaches . . . My buddy and I would just sing every
Motown song while we tried to catch a ride.''
Pat Boone: "If I could only listen to one song for the rest of my life,
it would be 'Isn't She Lovely' by Stevie Wonder because it reminds me of
my wife, four daughters, and ten granddaughters, and because, like all
Motown music, it appeals not just to the heart and head but to the guts
and soul of people.''
Eddie Money: "'Bernadette,' because I just think the urgency of the
vocal is an amazing tune.''
Wayne Kramer (the MC5): "I'm gonna go with the little-heard but superb
cover of 'We Can Work It Out' by Stevie Wonder. The reason is the bass
work of James Jamerson; it stands as one of the most sophisticated,
imaginative, progressive, and funkiest takes in the history of pop
music. James probably did it in one take at the end of the day without
giving it much thought; pure genius on a level that has never been
equaled.''
Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits): "There are lots of things I like love from
that period, but I think 'Where Did Our Love Go,' by the Supremes, is a
tremendous thing. That comes to my mind as being quintessential.''
James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins): "'Reach Out I'll Be There.' It's got a
good bass, a great melody, great singing.''
RuPaul: "My favorite Motown song is 'Baby Love' because it exemplifies
the optimism and hope of the early sixties."
Rod Argent (The Zombies, Argent): "I remember the first time I heard
'You Really Got a Hold on Me' by the Miracles, which just zapped me. I
thought it was wonderful.''
Steve "Coolbone'' Johnson (Coolbone): "Probably 'Who's Loving You' by
Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5. To me, there was no song ever made
before that that's bluesier than that song. They did it, like,
perfectly; these young cats, not knowing anything, they sang the blues.
They really did.''
Jai: "'What's Going On.' I love Marvin Gaye. I really enjoyed the fact
that at the time, he was being challenging. He wanted to make a protest
record, and Berry Gordy was saying 'No, we want to continue doing 'I
Heard It Through the Grapevine.' (Gaye) didn't want to do that, and he
basically did what he wanted. It worked. To me, he must have had a lot
of faith in that album and that song to do it.''
Robert Sledge (Ben Folds Five): "I like that song 'The Tears of a
Clown.' I just like the melody. I like the way it's put together. It's
like the greatest stock rhythm section you can imagine.''
Holly Cole: "'I Heard It Through the Grapevine.' I think it has a
strange, humorous side to the lyrics that isn't found often in Motown
tunes.''
Brian McKnight: "I know it would be Stevie Wonder . . . 'You and I.'
When I think Stevie, that's the first song that pops into my head . . .
just his delivery, the writing he did on that song. The performance is
just incredible.''
Deana Carter: "The Jackson 5 was huge for me. I love their stuff, still.
I'll just say 'ABC,' the 1-2-3 thing. It's one of my favorites.''

Does anyone out there have any information on a band called Mickey Finn

ask is because one of their songs-- "I Still Want You"-- was published by
Kim Fowley Music, so I'm wondering if perhaps Fowley produced them or
 played with them.
  >>
I'm not sure about the ' I still want you ' disc but I do know the other 2
weren't Fowley. I do know he spent time in England and did produce a lot of
odd ball groups, I have one by Spider "The comedown song" from '66 that he
produced on Decca.
'Night comes down' was Shel Talmy produced
"Garden of my mind' was Richard Gooethrer produced.

Has anyone ever dealt with Les Harris before? He's got a pretty impressive
list of records on his web site,

	http://www.stic.net/users/lharris/

so I tried to place an order. He called me back to verify the order, but
called *collect*! His justification was that if he called everyone back,
his phone bill would double and triple. Fine, he had my email address, why
didn't he just correspond with me through email? Why didn't he answer the
phone the three times I called him? I've never had a record dealer call me
collect, and I can't say that I appreciated it.

He was also quite short over the phone with me for no apparent reason. He
said he wouldn't even check to see if the records I wanted to order were in
stock until I gave him a credit card number!

The guys prices for the records I wanted were quite reasonable and I
wouldn't mind placing the order, but not if this is how I'm going to be
treated. Has anybody on Bomp ordered from him before?

Subject: MuSick Upcoming Releases/New Signings

Just wanted to drop a few about what 1998 will bring from MuSick
Recordings. This is long, so delete now, if not interested.
First, we're very excited to announce that we just signed that creepy bunch
from Portland, OR, Satan's Pilgrims! The band will release an LP/CD on
Estrus sometime soon and will start the MuSick partnership with a "Best
of..." LP/CD compilation and new 7" single this Fall.

We will also release the first LP/CD by The Mystery Action! The Mystery
Action is the new band formed by Evan Foster of The Boss Martians. It's a
mix of garage vocals with fuzz instrumental numbers. Evan describes it as
"The Music Machine and The Sonics meet The Ventures and Davie Allan circa
'66". With that description, we couldn't refuse.

MuSick is also starting a new imprint, Fuego Records, which will release a
CD by Rockabilly band The Crank Tones, from Boston, MA. The Crank Tones is
the side band of Frankie, Johnny and Stan of The Fathoms. BTW, this is no
trendy Rockabilly revival outfit, these guys are the real deal!

Upcoming 1998 MuSick releases:

- -"Moon Children" Ventures Tribute compilation LP/CD With: Boss Martians,
Space Cossacks, Fortune & Maltese and the Phabulous Pallbearers, Eddie
Angel & The Omega Men, The Hypnomen, The Fathoms, The Volcanos, The Quiets,
The Penetrators, Satan's Pilgrims, Davie Allan & the Arrows, Jon & the
Nightriders, The Saturn V and many more...

- -The Hypnomen / The Space Cossacks Split 7" Single

- -Satan's Pilgrims- Best of...compilation With previously unreleased tracks
LP/CD

- -Satan's Pilgrims 7" Single

- -The Mystery Action LP/CD

- -The Crank Tones CD Only on Fuego Records

OTHER NEWS:

**Los Straitjackets' guitarist Eddie Angel will be entering the studio next
weekend along with The Omega Men to record the Ventures' tune "Stop Action"
and the Beatles' "Cry For a Shadow". Eddie will also cut a couple of tunes
with the rhythm section of the Space Cossacks, Doug and Catherine, for a
possible single.

**The Omega Men are touring the south and mid west in the next few months.
The band will also contribute a song, "Fly Away", for the Ventures tribute
(from the Ventures' 'Flights of Fantasy').
The band is releasing a 7" single with ultra cool NC label, Lovitt Records
and then will enter the studio in the Fall to record their next LP/CD.

**The Space Cossacks will tour the west coast in July. Some of the dates
will include The Boss Martians or Satan's Pilgrims! No dates confirmed yet,
but some of the cities the band will hit include: Vancouver, B.C. /
Bellingham, WA / Seattle, WA / Portland, OR / San Francisco / Los Angeles /
San Diego and Simi Valley(?)- just kidding about this one.

Okay all you geeks and trivia buffs, I got another weird, long

There is a great version by The Scorpions (Holland) on Crypt's
Transworld Punk Vol.1. But i've also seen this amazing video clip of
some 60's era band featuring 2 black singers and a white drummer
surrounded by bunny tailed go go chicks doing this song. Remember, this
is one of those nursery ryhme usin' rock and roll songs: it start's off
with "Mary had a little lamb...etc." and then the middle refrain is "Hey
diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle...etc." Does anyone know who this
similar to but not Don and Dewey duo is?

There was a recurring character on SCTV called "Gil Fisher, The Fishin'
Musician" played by John Candy. His place was the Scuttlebut Lodge, Wich
"didn't look like much, but it goes down 400 feet, sleeps 800..." The guest
band sometimes showed up there. This is irrelevant, but I thought I'd throw
