As a public service, the first person who watches it should alert the rest

Yes...that is a great disc...couple interesting tidbits about that
collection...

Dear Jeepers/letter from Jeepers, I hear, was inspired by an actual
character named Jeepers who used to introduce scary films back in the
early sixties.....Blood Pudding!

Grunion run was coverd by Jonathan Richman in later years.

Tijuana surf was a number 1 hit in mexico for some time.

cradle rock/everytime I see you: two 14 year old mexican kids singing
doo-wop while Frank Zappa and Paul Buff play the music.

there's a bootleg called, "we are the mothers and this is what we sound
like" that has some other cuts from those years not on the cucamonga
years. Frank's, the lost Episodes, available on Rykodisc, also takes
from that period.

Speaking of Kim Fowley. I just picked up a Fowley comp on Dionysus last week
with some pretty cool stuff on it. I'm used to thinking of him as the
"Svengali-manager of the Runaways" but he did some (actually, a lot of) garage
oriented material. The disc also has a few cuts which present Fowley as a
variant Frank Zappa (evidently, he spent some time in the Mothers--wonder if he
taught Frank or if it was the other way around).

Mike Nesmith formed 1st national band as a post Monkees project, with the
intention of playing traditional country. The band evolved into The 2nd
National band, which pretty much sounded the same, but Mike said it was
supposed to be a bit more current sounding country rock. He talked about the
Third national Band, which was supposed to be country music of the future, but
I don't think he ever got around to that.

This might be the one and only version. The Jelly Roll Kings tune was
written by Sam Carr and Frank Frost of the band. Also, the AMG lists only
that song and none by Albert King, but still, ya never know.

"Walking Out" was from a short-lived band he had with Peter Case just
before he started the Beat and Peter started the Plimsouls. They only
recorded 2 or 3 songs, and everything I could find is in our "Roots of
Powerpop" CD. His albums with the Beat have all been reissued now on his
own Wagon Wheel Records. The Nerves stuff was out on an album in France,
now out of print I think. He also has some new stuff that's quite good. You
can write to him at: PO Box 1115, Cooper Square Station, NY, NY 10276-1115

Hope this helps

was so good that I had to call up and tell them that EVERY FRIDAY SHOULD BE
FREE FORM FRIDAY. And the DJ agreed! Of course, the stuff wasn't the epitome

Yup, that's the one I was thinking of. Baylor actually did quite
a few cool 45s, including The Vacant Lot, DaWillys, a split with the
American Soul Spiders (pre-Teengenerate) and Supersnazz, and (I think) a
Muddy Frankenstein 7"er.

That was how I found out what year my guitar was made...

Evan: Since they've got so many, would you consider picking up
one for me? Please? I'm a big fan, one of the few who actually
bought "Girl Crazy" when if first came out! Had to special
order it and everything! Thanks!

I seem to remember those "Jeepers" tracks, as well as the "How's
Your Bird?" stuff coming out on LP in the early-mid '80s... on Rhino,
maybe?

Anyway, the scene with "The Party Starts Now" by Manitoba's Wild
Kingdom is pretty early on in the movie. At that point, Arnie still
hasn't gone up to Wherever-ville and ended up a teacher.

Mike'S First National band was C&W rock.
And the single's sound is very different .
So I assume they are different band with same name
but can't any information about it.

BTW Mike's First National band's "Silver Moon"
made chart hit limited in Japan! at the time.

And it was at an Everclear show where three of the New England Patriots
stage-dived into the crowd, injuring a young woman so badly she needed
surgery - in fact, I believe it happened in Andrea's own hometown of
Boston, right?

That's just as pathetic as the time the Cranberries gave an outdoor show
in Boston in '94 and the show got shut down because the crowd got way too
rowdy moshing to this laughably WUSSY band!

Grrrr.... it's pathetic bullshit like this which shows why I will never
forgive Nirvana for bringing "alternative" and "punk" into the mainstream,
and why I have far more tolerance for the Spice Girls, Hanson and the
Backstreet Boys than for any mainstream commercial "alternative" band.

P.S. Is it just coincidence that both these incidents took place in Boston
or is it something in the beer there?

Are you kidding?? Or do people really think KF is that important? I would
class Zappa as a true original & possible genius, but I've perceived
Fowley as a clever opportunist and mostly a poseur...tell me what makes
him great. I guess I don't know a lot about the guy.

I generally see this 45 listed for between $20-30 on lists, though I
imagine it's possible people have paid more for it. Btw, what's the
flip? I imagine if there was a non-LP flip it would have seen the light

 Hey Bompers,
During the past few months a lot of people have asked about this
boxset. Although Rhino hasn't come close to getting a date set on it's
release (as a guess the summertime) nor do they even acknowledge it's
existence.Ha! Here's the track listing attached for those who are interested
,just to show that at least some wheels on this project are in motion.
Listing is courtesy of Mr. Dixson(Stax) who also has written the liner
notes.
