I don't know much about him either, and I was fishing for insights from other
Bompers. I was surprised to find some decent garage rock cuts on this disc.
The Zappaesque tracks are Bad Early Mothers of Invention. The writer of the
liner notes makes some hay about Fowley's membership in the Mothers (but I don't
remember the particulars). On balance, there's enough of interest that I'm
inclined to keep the disc. I don't think it will be to everyone's taste.

Subject: RE: delete if you don't care about the everclear thread....

This is the story that ran at the Wall of Sound Music News site
concerning the stage-diving accident at the Boston Everclear show:
Thursday, December 11, 1997 Everclear, NFLPlayers Sued by Mosh
VictimA woman who suffered serious injuries when an NFL quarterback
landed on her after he stage-dived at a Boston Everclear concert last
month has filed suit, the Associated Press reports. Tameeka Messier
claims that New England Patriots players Drew Bledsoe and Max Lane dove
from the stage and landed on top of her. She maintains that Everclear
singer Art Alexakis encouraged them to jump. "With Bledsoe and Lane
together on the stage, Alexakis began to encourage them to stage-dive,"
read a portion of the civil suit. Messier says quarterback Bledsoe, who
weighs about 235 pounds, landed on the left side of her head and her
left shoulder after he dove from the stage. "Ms. Messier felt her body
go numb, and felt as if she was blacking out," the suit says. The
twenty-three-year-old Messier underwent surgery in which two discs were
removed from her neck and replaced with part of her hip bone. Bledsoe,
Lane, Everclear, and the Boston nightclub where they were playing are
named in the lawsuit. Shortly after the injury occurred, Alexakis
issued a statement denying that the band had invited the players
onstage, much less encouraged them to dive off. "We had no idea that
Drew and other Patriots were going to come onstage, and not in our
wildest dreams did we ever think they were going to stage-dive. Once
they did, we immediately ended the show and went back to our dressing
room," Alexakis said in a statement. "We cannot condone any actions
which put the safety of our fans in jeopardy." No criminal charges were
filed in the case. Messier requested a jury trial in the suit, which
does not specify damages.

"Just like me"- That's a Coasters tune, from the early 60's I believe.
Biily Guy and Howard Carroll propably wrote it. Great tune.

BMI credits it to Earl Carroll and Billy Guy. Earl Carroll was also the
name of lead singer of the Cadillacs("Well they often call me Speedo/But my
real name is Mr. Earl mm-hmm-hmm")

Perhaps they are the same person, which is why I thought the Cadillacs did
it first. The All Music Guide lists the Coasters doing it, which seems to
be in their millieu of novelty-tinged lyrics.

So last night I went down to the Continental to see the totally fab young
band Evelyn Forever (great buzzy pop that deserves your love) and there was a
previously unheard of band called The Master Plan on right before them. I was
quite shocked the Master Plan turned out to be Keith Strange & Bill Milheizer
(sp) of the Fleshtones, Adny Shernoff of the Dictators and Pete Lightning of
the NC band Waxing Poetics. What can I say besides ROCK'N'ROLL....Keith is
still The Roman God! I was surprised that none of the usual people were out
for the gig.

Yeah, Bart's a super cool guy(and not just 'cause he plays us a lot!). He
just set up a Barrage from the Garage gig in April with us (Mondo Topless),
The Bent Scepters, and the Omega Men at the Saint in Asbury Park, NJ. So he's
not only doing a cool garage show, but he's trying to set up live shows in
clubs that tie into the radio station. I think that's a cool idea for those
enterprising DJ's out there who want to extend their reach into the scary
world of gig promotion...

I try not to over-plug my Upper Crust site here, but I've added some stuff
recently that I thought was worth mentioning...

The Upper Crust national tour, Something Wigged This Way Comes, kicks off
tonight at the Court Tavern in New Brunswick, NJ. They're at Coney Island
High in NYC tomorrow, and in
Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Chapel Hill (well, Carrboro) NC over the
next week. The Crust will be on tour through March 29... the complete tour
calendar is at <http://www.juvalamu.com/crust/crustlive.html>.

Try your hand at writing Crust-like lyrics and you could win cool prizes in
the Author, Author contest! If your lyrics are judged (by Lord Bendover)
to be the most Crust-like, you could win a copy of those verses autographed
by the band, and maybe even hear them set to music! Details are at
<http://www.juvalamu.com/crust/contest.html>.

Want to be on the list? Announcing CrustList, the Upper Crust mailing
list! Info on how to sign up is at
<http://www.juvalamu.com/crust/hearye.html>.

That's it; we now return you to your (ir)regular Bomp list.

Yeah, the Master Plan have also been doing Wednesday nights in February at
Nightingales. Unfortunately, weeknights are tough when you're getting up
at 6 AM to face teenagers all day. However, I should be out next Thursday
night to see fellow Bompster Rob and his group The Baskervilles play their
first NYC club date.
