I'm afraid these consist almost entirely of stuff from earlier
Collectables releases. The label just wanted to create a more
recognizable
series in the tradition of Nuggets, Pebbles, etc rather than having
everything
scattered around under a great number of different titles. This is
solely a
Collectables idea, and one that Michael Greisman of Cicadelic is not
that
thrilled about. He did tell me that the tracks from the first batch of
Cicadelic/Collectables CDs that appear on "Green Crystal Ties" will have
better
sound quality than in their previous incarnations.
Cicadelic has a bunch of new releases coming up which look more
worthwhile than "Green Crystal Ties"; go to http://www.cicadelic.com/ to
check
them out.

The only GD5 member I was in touch with (besides Tom, of course, who used
to file California scene reports for me back when the Teen Scene was still
a monthly 4-pager) was John Hanrattie. John lived in Hoboken in the late
80s, I believe (possibly a little later?) and was then working in
advertising... not playing in bands at all. But I haven't seen him in
years... for all I know, he moved back to CA... I seem to remember his
girlfriend being a dancer (ballet, modern... not sure). I guess Ron
Rimsite would probably know, but the San Diego gang hears from Rimsite
more than those of us around NYC (and Ron lives right in our area.)

Yeah, I forgot about all the old San Diegans in San Francisco. Almost all of
them were from the old scene and knew Leighton. I'll see Tom at the
Ramblers(I can't get past the Black Diamonds name...they've always have been
the Nashville Ramblers to me) gig on March 6th in L.A. Alot of people are
goin' up for that weekend (6 & 7th) gig.

Gravedigger 5-where are they now?
Tom of course, moved up w/loads of San Diegans during the late 80's SFrancisco
invasion.
Ted Friedman is once again living in San Diego, saw him Saturday at a
brilliant 'Unknowns' show down here. Ted still plays guitar and has started a
few bands here and there, but nothing that really stuck.
David Anderson plays down here with Skid Roper in a surf band called "The
Shadowcasters".
John Hanrattie moved to New York w/his wife for about 5 years, then moved back
about 2 years ago. He now manages a Kinkos type place and never goes out.

Also for labels or bands doing their own CD's (doesn't work for
vinyl),you can use a CD-R as your master and usually save a couple
hundred bucks. You can send a CD-R in as a vinyl master, but since the
actual mastering is different, you still get a "mastering" charge.

Subject: **IMPORTANT** Bomp List announcement

Greetings, Bomp-ers!

As most of you know, a few weeks ago Alan Millar, the person who runs the
company that hosts this list, announced that he would be shutting down
bolis.com due to some personal issues that were preventing him from
spending the time he needed to keep his systems running smoothly.

At that time, Alan said he would be looking for a company to take over
hosting for the lists on bolis.com. Meanwhile, with help from some of you,
I started doing my own research in case the company Alan chose was not
suitable for some reason.

Friday I heard from Alan that he had found a company that would be taking
over the bolis lists. After getting more information from that company and
exchanging some messages with Greg over the weekend, we have decided
instead to switch to a different host, XNet2. (Those of you who had signed
up for the test pseudo-bomp list will recognize that name.)

My goal is to switch everyone over to the new list by tomorrow night
(February 25th). I'll be sending out another message later today or
tomorrow with more details. Meanwhile, feel free to e-mail me directly
with any questions.

Evan

I'll second that; the Pretty Ballerina/Walk Away Renee album is solid all
the way through and it's not all "baroque-rock" by a long shot. "What Do
You Want" is excellent pre-Sweetheart of the Rodeo country rock (the good
kind) and "Evening Gown" should have been a garage classic. And FWIW, "Walk
Away Renee" is one of the few songs I just never get tired of, even through
oldies-radio-overplay.

Hey!

There's a guy here in Huntsville that bought a burner. He figured for
the price of getting 1000 CD's, he could buy the machine and make his
own.

He is very good. His name is Chris Fitts And he's got a website at

Wes,

Are you saying that The Flat Duo Jets was actually playing with Link, or
was it (just) a great double bill ?

I appreciate the compliment, but I think Rocky's point may have been that
since your site is mostly text it's easy for someone who's visually
impaired to find and get the information they're looking for.

Jude,

No, the Flat Duo Jets opened and were on for about forty-five
minutes and then Link played for about two hours.  It was a great show;
the Flat Duo Jets did a very intense "Ace of Spades" and then Link did two
very intense "Ace of Spades"s. He ended his show proper with some song
that started out kind of cheesy and slow but as he came to the lines
"You're So Young ... And Beautiful..." he stopped playing his Danelectro
and growled out "And I'm So Fuckin' Old!" and then the song rocked away
until he left the stage. It was wonderful.

I've just made this list a "moderated" list (I think - sorry if you get
this twice), which means any posts sent to bomp@bolis.com will be
re-directed to me. Then I'll electronically tap you on the shoulder and
remind you that you should be subscribed to the new bomp list at XNet2.

In case you missed (or ignored!) my other messages, here's how to get on
the new bomp list:

Send an e-mail to majordomo@xnet2.com. In the body of the message, type:

subscribe bomp

Or, if you want to get the digest version:

subscribe bomp-digest

You can unsubscribe yourself from the bolis list (this one you're reading
now) by sending an e-mail to majordomo@bolis.com. In the body of the
message, type:

unsubscribe bomp

Or, if you're getting the digest version:

unsubscribe bomp-digest

I'll take care of unsubscribing everyone who's left on Bolis tomorrow
morning, and switching them to the xnet2 address, but the fewer people I
have to switch the happier I'll be. :-)

Feel free to e-mail me directly with any questions.

Evan
