Yeah, after posting my last bit, I thought that might be what Rocky was
getting at. However, the way the web is moving these days, pictures are
the way most people are going. Rocky, I'm curious how your software
handles image maps where various spots link to different pages.

The best advice I can give anyone who would like their pages to be
accessible to the visually impaired is to not only use an image as the
link, but to also place text just underneath it (also to be used as a
link). That way people can click on the image OR the text. (I'd think
this would help with text-based browsers, too.)

While looking at all the names of list members as they're coming and going,

Well, Ripster, I don't think I have the time or energy for a
blow-by-blow account of the show last night, but....

Let's just say it was actually 100% better than the last time I
saw Link, and it will be pretty damned hard to top as the Best
Atlanta Roots Rock Show of 1998!

The highlight for me was Link dive-bombing from "King Creole"
("Elvis echo =up=!" he hollered to the Brannock Device, back
there working the soundboard) straight into "Jack the Ripper" and
"Ace of Spades." Funny, I always find myself singing the lyrics
of "Sunglasses After Dark" during the latter, having listened to
that first Cramps album way too many times. <smile>

Anyway, the astrounding climax of the gig was the big celebrity
jam, which began when Link called up Harold Kelling from the
Hoods to do "Rawhide" with him. Well, the Flat Duo Jets had
opened the show, and =they= wanted in on the fun too, so while
Harold was plugging his Nokie-Model Mosrite into the amps, the
Jets' drummer Crow hopped out of the crowd and took over from
Link's drummer. Then the other Jet [in case y'all don't know: the
Duo Jets are, duh, a two-piece band], frantic frontman Dexter
Romweber, hopped up on the stage and started =dancing= while the
other guys began playing the song. After it went on a while,
Dexter boogied over across the stage and gently gestured to the
bassist that he wanted the guy's instrument. It must have been
Dexter's crazy eyes or something -- the guy passed off the bass
 to him right away.

Thus, Link's band took a break -- while Link and Harold played
together =with the Flat Duo Jets=! Dexter was quite good on the
bass, sorta "busy" but amazingly tight and completely in synch
with the other musicians. (I guess it helped that he was playing
 with his own regular drummer.)

But the real highlight was when Link called out Paul Peek, who
had been Gene Vincent's guitarist (approx '53-'55) and handed
Peek his Screamin' Red custom guitar. Peek couldn't play it very
 well -- he's an =excellent= guitarist (I've seen him =smoke= on
'69 Tele Deluxe) but he uses a thumbpick and nobody had one to
loan him -- so he basically just strummed it a little, while Link
looked on beaming. However, Peek began singing some sort of old
blues song and the crowd went =nuts= on account of his voice
being so beautiful. He's got astounding pipes -- his recording of
"Pin the Tail on the Donkey" could make Sam Cooke jealous -- and
the audience picked up on this right away.

Well, so did Link.

Stepping up to the mic again, Link started singing "Be Bop A
Lula" and the whole place (the show was completely sold out)
suddenly went completely =apeshit=. Link and Peek dueted on the
song while Harold supplied all the guitar parts on his wailing
Mosrite (by this point Peek had given up trying to play Link's
guitar without a thumbpick) and the Flat Duo Jets throbbed out
the rhythm. This got =the= biggest reaction of the night, even
more than Link's initial taking of the stage with his mighty
 set-opening "Rumble."

Jeff Guinness of Dragline walked over to me, ashen-faced, and
stammered into my ear, "This is like seein' some kinda Hall of
 Fame celebrity jam session!"

Exactly. <grin>

After that, most of the celebs cleared off the stage but Harold
stuck around a little while longer because Link called up
Harold's 20-something son, Eric (who plays in a local
grunge/metal band) for a little father-and-son guitar guitar jam.
It was good, though a little anti-climactic after the incredible
 fireworks which had exploded beforehand.

While I'm not one to hype bands that I work with (yeah, right) I would like to
tip y'all off to the fact that Evelyn Forever are playing a bunch of dates in
the near future and I would love to see some of you our for them!!!

- ----Matthew Kaplan----

The following is the review of the bands debut album "Nightclub Jitters" from
our fave bible of Pop, The Not Lame Catalog:
********************This Jersey pop band arrived out of nowhere...The band has
produced a very controlled, well produced slab of loudish pop, overtly melodic
and poppy music that evokes not only classic power pop styles, but brings out
the sounds of really cool poppy new wave bands like The Skids...The 10
compact, driving POP contained here reveal a blossoming talent that has me
anticipating what their next step will be as it seems they will not be
satisfied with running in place. For fans of loud, guitar driven
pop...Extremely Highly Recommended rating!********************

So that is what Not Lame's Bruce Brodeen wrote, you can find out what you
think for them yourself by coming out to see them play live at one of the
following live shows:

FEBRUARY 26	ASBURY PARK--THE SAINT 11:00

MARCH 1:	NEW YORK--BROWNIES 8:00 (all ages)

MARCH 11:	NEW YORK--CBGB'S

MARCH 13:	BOSTON/CAMBRIDGE--MIDDLE EAST

MARCH 19:	ASBURY PARK--THE SAINT

MARCH 24:	NEW YORK--KNITTING FACTORY (AlterNit)

MARCH 25:	DANBURY, CT.--TUXEDO JUNCTION

APRIL 4:	NEW YORK--MERCURY LOUNGE 11:00

Here are a couple of other nice reviews:
- --Al Muzer/AQUARIAN WEEKLY (01/07/98)
The highlight of the evening, however, proved to be the energetic opening set
from the scrappy New Brunswick four piece, Evelyn Forever. Reeling off a
brilliant, buoyant bouncing blast of potential hits such as "What I Need",
"Double Dip", "17" and "Rock'N'Roll Girl" from their 10-song, CD debut
(Nightclub Jitters), the four future MTV heartthrobs captivated the crowd
during a wall-shaking set that proved, once and for all, just how completely
deserving of your love, affection and obsessive, hero-worshipping adulation
this band truly are.

- --Doug Reece/BILLBOARD (11/28/97)
POPULAR UPRISINGS: When Peter Mantas, founder of the Asbury Park, N.J.-based
Airplay Label, came across power pop quartet Evelyn Forever, he brought on the
group as the labels first signing...With the release this fall of the band's
appropriately-titled "Nightclub Jitters", modern rock stations WHTG Monmouth
County, N.J., and WOSC Ocean City, Md. began playing the album cut
"Rock'N'Roll Girl"

- --THE PHOENIX (01/16/98)
POP OASIS: Movies like "That Thing You Do!" and "Shout!" tried to re-create
the mid-60s era when every boy wanted to be in a band so he could pick girls,
girls and girls (has anything really changed?). But one modern-day New Jersey
band prove you can dress as sharp as your music and still wow the crowds. On
their debut CD, "Nightclub Jitters", Evelyn Forever deliver 10 songs filled
with Cheap Trick-like intensity and Beatlesque harmonies about girls, girls
and (surprise!) girls. Hear selections from one of the decades great pop
CDs...

- --Uncle Mike/THE TWO RIVERS TIMES (12/26/97)
One of the hottest bands around these parts is New Brunswick's power pop
quartet, Evelyn Forever. Evelyn Forever has come along way in a rather short
time and they show no signs of resting on their laurels. They have
successfully combined 60's vocals and harmonies with the crunch of 90's
guitars to create a refreshingly now sound that's not only easy on your ears,
but is fun to listen to! So, if pop is your thing, then this is your band.
Evelyn Forever is pure pop at it's best!

The Stampeders started out as a garage band with a pretty rockin' tune
called "House of Shake".

My pal Marc Coulevin in Toronto would be a good source to try for the more
obscure stuff. I don't have his e-mail address, but his phone # is (416)

You could also try:

Subject: Where in the world?

I've been wondering where all the Bomplitsin' folks are from - I know there
are a bunch in Boston, some in NYC (and the general vicinity) Greece, Japan,
Atlanta and one in Gainesville, Fla (Land of a great big vacuum, and damn
little else...) but is there anyone else on this list from the ********
southeast? What about other countries? Just curious... Maybe there's a 3
chord hellion somewhere in the area with a wild desire to show the local
yahoos the music isn't just some heroin addict whining or some greasy haired
hippie chick singing threw her nose....

                                         Having rock and rolling withdrawl,
