In the garage area, you can have a look at

Slow Slushy Boys
Holy Curse
Perfect Cousins
Squares
Dum Dum Boys
Cryptones
Mashmen
Gorgons

more rock :
TV Killers
Flag
Dickybirds
Backsliders
TV Men
the Needs
Gang Bangers
Kat Onoma
Kid Pharaon (rip)
City Kids (rip)
Fixed Up (rip)
Shredded Hermines (rip)

And all the band on the Vicious Circle label from Bordeaux.

And you'll find a lot more in these two fanzines. In french
unfortunatelly.

"Larsen". Great garage oriented, size of a CD, and
including a mini-CD in each issue (each 3 months).
price is 120 FF for 4 issues. (around 20$).
Larsen
116 rue du crey
73230 St Alban Leysse - France

For more 'actual' music the best zine in France is without contest
"Abus Dangereux". French and international rock. Different
styles are discussed.
one issue each two months, including a CD. Great and cheap mail order
list too.
price is 120FF for 5 issues a year. (around 20$)
Abus Dangereux

33151 Cenon cedex - France
They will soon be on the Internet.

Hope this helps

Trust had a song on the soundtrack to the movie Heavy Metal. I have a
3-LP box set of some of their early works. Their drummer, Nico McBrain
became the longtime drummer for Iron Maiden. They did do an English
version of Ride On from AC/DC. I'm not an expert in French, but by
looking at the lyrics, they were a political band as well.

I'm not a high-end audiophile by any means, and I don't know if the person
who posted with the original query is, either. In the event that you
aren't...well, when my JVC turntable decided to flake out on me as I was
trying to install a new cartridge recently, I went turntable shopping and
found a perfectly decent Sony turntable at the Sony store in midtown
Manhattan for $250 or so. Model number PS-LX300H. Works well, sounds
great, has those magical dots alongside the platter that stand still when
it's in rotation. It suits me fine.

There was a "Sixties" antiques show at the 25th Street armory this weekend.
I went just to feast my eyes on all the crap--I'm hardly the type who can
afford $300 for a "Supremes White Bread" wrapper. Along with the row of
'60s TV celebrities sitting around for autographs and the dulcet tunes of
musical guest Paul Kantner (oy), there were some actual non-tacky, truly beautiful
items and events: a screening of "Tonite Let's All Make Love in London,"
and ode to the swinging city circa early '67; gorgeous and bizarre furniture,
like those egg chairs, futuristic Saarinen and Eames designs, a coffee
table with female legs holding it up, etc.'; row upon row of tv tie-in
kitsch and toys from the era; op art curtains; and I could go on and on,
but the most outstanding item to my eyes was a hi-fi console made to look
like a
fireplace and mantel, replete with a working electric "fire." There were
several sit-down stereo consoles that looked stolen from the set of
"2001," and one vendor had a womb-like easy chair with built-in speakers.
Quite a few had those round plastic ball radio/8-track players.
Ah...if only our contemporary industrial designers could muster up such
taste.

Subject: Gainsbourg and more

If you wanna discover Gainsbourg at his best, check out the following stuff:

- - Histoire de Melody Nelson (absolute out of time gem....)
- - L'Homme a la tete de choux
- - Vu de l'exterieur

As I ever said, Gainsbourg always had a sulfurous reputation in France,
because of his way of life, and of his lyrics...and it was not only in the
60s. I remember one of his hits , around 1986, that was called "Love on the
Beat", which made the top 5 here during weeks... It's in that kind of
situation that you see that France is far from being a puritain land...some
of the lyrics were :
"Des trois orifices que les Dieux t'ont donné
J'ai choisi le moins lisse pour m'abandonner"
which means " Among the 3 holes that the Gods gave you, I've choosen the
less smooth to come"... All the song is full of that poetry, and during all
the song you can hear Bambou (Gainsbourg's wife), crying, screaming,
yelling, just as if she was rapped by an entire army... I remember too this
beautiful sunday afternoon, when my parents , my little sister and I were
driving to my grandparents, and the car radio was on... the moment came
when of course, "Love on the Beat" was played...my parents were cool, but I
remember that they were silenciously expecting the moment when one of these
embarrasing questions would come from the kids, especially from my sister
who was 10 years old at that time.. and after 1 minute of Bambou's screams,
bingo " Why do the woman cries like that ?" asked my
sister......."Well.......she must be constipated" replied my father...and
that was all for this time...Gainsbourg made much more for the sexual
education of french kids than shool ever did...and what was cool with him
was that you could have all the details you never dared to ask to your
parents or your teacher...
But he was not the only guy of that sort in the 80s in France....I remember
having discovered loads of things listening to the radio when I was 11-12
years old (lesbianism with "Maman a tort" by Mylene Farmer -1984, SM with
"Etienne"-don't remember who sung that, transvestism with "Troisieme sex"
(3th sex) by Indochine..., etc, etc....and all made the top 3 !)

My suggestion would be to set a certain time (or times) each day when it's
most convenient for most list members, then whoever goes there should find
at least someone to talk to. For instance, 11 PM EST would probably be
non-peak time across the country and everyone should be done with work or
school etc. You could also pick an earlier time for weekends, or any kind
of schedule the most active members (I have a feeling there's only a dozen
or two of these anway) wants to agree on.

Another night with the Montgomery Cliffs will take place on Tuesday,
March 24 at 9pm. This show will be a benifit for WUSB-FM and will take
place at Dr. Shays in Lindenherst (right on Wellwood Ave...'bout a 1/2 mile
south of Sunrise Hwy). Also on the bill is Argon & the Flying Saucers
...admission, only 4 bucks.

Seeing how I'll be pre-empted that night for a live blues broadcast,
I'll be at this show and so should you.
