Bloody hell man, not everyone on this list is from America or Europe!! I
don't know about anyone in Adelaide, but if your willing to spend a few
extra dollars on phone bills and postage, here's the address in Brisbane of
a guy who fixes and sell organs AND Leslie speakers too! I've been to his
House/workshop, and I can tell you, it's like a labyrinth of organ bits and
pieces... anyway, here 'tis!!
John Brimblecombe, 3 Clovelly St, Sunnybank Hills, QLD, 4109,
Phone (07) 3345 2627
This guy fixed my friend Stevie's compact duo Farfisa and had it sounding as
good as new!!
Hope this helps!!

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound rude at the beginning of my message! Hope you
have fun on the list!

I didn't know he was still playing. Is there anywhere you can see him
without Van Morrison?
Seems like he should be playing with some swing band given the latest
resurgence in swing and Louis Prima's popularity.

Bonjour
I'm using a "friend"'s computer in order to tell my shocking
tale of meeting with the infamous Mimi....I remember quite well that
early evening last October... I was watching Les Canadiens getting
bombed by the Carolina Hurricanes and was quite bombed myself on Molson
Ex, when I spotted this tantalizing chick leaning across the jukebox
playing "le Ya-Ya" and twisting like she had ants in her panties!
Naturally I walked right up to her, and in a soft brown voice, I said
"Lola, dance with moi....." After a few gut-twisting beers I managed
to invite her to my pad for further...décadence... I played some of my
groovy best Lps since she liked that stuff... However, after I went to
the little boys room for a few moments, I took a sip of my liqueur and
noticed the taste was strange....Yes! I had been drugged by that
record-mad MIMI!!!!! My head was twirling, my senses were reeling, and
in my drug-mad haze I saw the horrible truth about Mimi.... as she
ripped her clothes and sprouted two huge wings and actually flew out of
my room!!! She had changed into a huge Vinyl Vampyr!! carrying in her
awful teeth my prized Sinners and Lutins LPs..... I'm glad I escaped
with my life...But will you..when you meet MIMI the Vinyl
Vampyr???.......... Hee heee heeeee heeeeeee...... Al Falfa (from

ALL Easybeats are essential!!!!! I had a great album of theirs called "It's
2 Easy" but it got stolen last year, so I've only got a used comp as well at
the moment! My favourite songs of theirs are "Wedding Ring" and "She's So
Fine" (You Am I do a killer version of this on a live promo CD that I've
got)
Just a little tidbit of trivia, "I'll Make You Happy" was also covered by an
Australian band called the Divinyls, who did the song "I Touch Myself" which
was the song that Austin Powers strips to when he's blowing up the fembots!
The also covered "Hey Little Girl" by the Syndicate of Sound(?), but as they
have a female singer, changed it to "Hey Little Boy"... quite a bit more
raunchy than the original methinks, but that's just me!!

Actually, I don't think he ever stopped playing. I believe he used to do a
show with Keeley Smith called The Wildest, and he regularly plays casinos
in Vegas and Atlantic City. That's not to say he plays tons of dates, but I
think he's pretty consistent. He also played a benefit here in suburban New
York a couple of months ago, and I heard he was in Boston recently. You
would think he would get more publicity or someone would book him for a big
swing show, but a lot of 'swingers' might not know who he is. I think he
also presides over an informal (i.e. it's activities consist solely of
selling membership cards) humorous club called the "Can't remember shit"
club or something like that. It was mentioned in an early issue of Gearhead.

When I first joined this list about a year ago, I recall reading some great
stuff about what Bompers considered their top drum intros to killer kuts.
So, in that fine tradition, I'd like to know what y'all dig as far as
wicked, ear-slicing fuzz guitar breaks. I'll throw out 3 of my personal
faves to get the ball rollin':

The Brogues - I Ain't No Miracle Worker
The Visions - Humpty Dumpty
The Jackals - Love Times Eight

Okay, any other takers?

Hmmmmmm!
I've been seeing some weird comments about record dealers and
since I must consider myself one, I feel obligated to respond... I've
never been to Atlanta or Minnesota, but I've been to Boston, New York,
Toronto and various European hot spots... Here's stuff I hate: Records
that are boxed in too tightly so you can't flick thru rapidly; 45s that
are "mixed" and not sorted by 60s, 70s etc; NO PRICES on records!!!;
some geek grabbing a record you want seconds before you do.... But most
dealers are fairly reasonable people, married with children probably..
Frankly I see more weirdo collectors than dealers! Like one guy in
Montreal collects Elton John, sells EJ memorabilia at record shows and
even dresses like him!!! But he has real hair. And people into Star
Trek* are surely more out into the ozone than record dealers.... Denis
*BUT: if anyone has a copy of Nichelle Nicholls' (Uhura) 45 on EPIC with
picture sleeve, please e-mail me. I'll pay $$$$$.

Well, ya! Jeez, that's kinda different that you'd think otherwise, ya
know?

I'm even a little bilingual - here's some Canadian for ya: "How's it

I haven't been to any Mpls. record shows for a long time - you mean to

On the other side of the table, so to speak, there was the female record
DEALER in Ann Arbor last year who set up at a record show *braless* (ooh
la la), and seemed to have an aisle full of male customers in front of her
table much of the time. And she is about 50 years old and rather shopworn
looking. (When a friend of mine told me to "check out the sights," I made
pains to avoid her, as it was early and I had had a full breakfast... but
many of the "typical male record collector geeks" apparently ate it up.)
To each his (or her) own, I guess.

Yeh, they had one EP out on Charmkin records which they sold at their shows
- -- I became the proud owner of one copy when I saw them at the Distillery
in Columbus with the Hentchmen and the Insect. Great show, great band,
great record. Unfortunately, I guess they didn't last longer beyond that
time. And, of course, a certain member of this list can probably fill you
in on more details than I ever could.

It was a really good record, still one of my faves as far as neo-garage
sounds go. I still have not heard the Kings English. If they have a record
out, I haven't been able to find it. So I have no idea if they're anything
like Thee Flypped Whigs. If they are, they must be pretty good.
