As is probably expected Japan is great for records especially albums, if
there's anything you ever wanted you'll find it there somewhere.
They've even got shops dedicated to some bands. I've only been to Tokyo
and then I never got out of the centre(Shibuya etc..) but i found tons
of stuff. Most of the record shops haven't got fronts and maybe 3
flights up so keep looking upwards for the signs. Most of the records
are quite reasonably priced as well, though clothes are bloody
expensive. Also there's quite a nice fanzine/magazine called Popsy Rock
which is 7" size. I don't really know much else as I was working and
spent most of my spare time in record shops. Oh and don't cross the
road until the green man says you can, like it says in the airport
'Welcome to Japan, please obey the rules'. Good luck.

Mark.

You Am I also covered I'll Make You Happy on a B-side to maybe their Good
Mornin' single I think. They also performed it live on the Aria Awards. I
think Tim Rogers was going through a bit of a Easybeats fixation at that
point. A good Easybeats comp is called Absolute Anthology, which is 2CD's on
Albert Records. I however don't if it is still available. They is a single
compilation around that has all their hits.

Thanks for the props, King's English has not recorded yet. We do hope to,
though. I too own a copy of the Whig's record and concur that it is a gem.

something to keep in mind when buying an old organ like this (besides
whether it works of course) is whether it still has the stand. loads of
these pups don't, and you'll never find a stand w/o an organ, believe me.

Does anyone know much about the Farfisa VIP models, and whether they make
the same groovy sounds as their predecessors?

There's a VIP 233 for sale here in Florida and I'm considering making a long
trip to go look at it. It has 2 x 49 keys (but no reverse color keys) and 24
tabs. I believe the VIPs were made in the early 70s.

This time, though, I would like all DJs to write me with their names, names

True... Of course, you *could* just buy one of those modern adjustable
stands and hang a cloth banner from the bottom-outer edge of the organ.
Or, if it's a Farfisa whose stand is too rickety, just hang the front out
so the adjustable stand is hidden.

Thanks Joe,

True, many organs are amputees. On Hammonds they saw the legs off sometimes.
But some folks have a thing for amputees!

Yes, the one in question has the fold-up legs.

But no bass pedals. Will that make a big difference?

Thanks Dave! <blush>

The King's English have no vinyl as of yet. We've only played 4 shows (which,
by the way, pulls us even with The New Conolly 6!) , and only two of those
with our new drummer. Good thing we didn't call ourselves The Kurt Wood Combo
afterall (since he's the one that quit)!! Maybe we should go with The Dave
Brock 5?! Seriously, tho', we have a gig scheduled for Sunday, February 14th
here in Atlanta with Doctor Explosion (from Spain - I'm expecting reports from
SF and Seattle in the next few weeks after they play there!), and the Marianne
Faithfuls.

As for The King's English "style"......Dave, since you're one of the cursed
few to have witnessed thee whonderfully whitless Whigs......take away the
organ (for now), add a guitar and harp player, and then take the
Pretties/Outsiders side of Thee Whigs and magnify it. We've been described as
sounding like a bunch of American teens that have a SERIOUS Pretty Things
fixation, and have just bought their first Q65 record!

We should be recording in the next few months for, among other things, a split
7" with that fabulous new Japanese band, The Young Pennsylvanians!

Anyone interested in Thee Whigs' EP can email me privately. They are cheap!
Derek/"Dirk", I will try to bring one to the 2/14 gig for you if you're going
to be there.

I don't recall ever seeing Denis drinking water altough he seems to have and
impressive stocking of Kik Cola. A soft drink that was very popular here in the
late sixties, the curious thing is that I often see him sipping thru a bottle
some sort of psychedelic snake dance always follows.

Denis, I have a story too...

When we went to Cave Stomp, Denis beeing the generous sweetheart that he
is, gave me a lift, didn't ask for anything in return and even played a
tape of obscur girl bands just to impress me, when in Plattsburgh, he
stopped in this secluded place where all his prized records were hidden.
While he had his back turned loading the car, my fingers accidently
slipped and out came France Gall's "Baby Pop" album, the only one I
needed to make my collection complete! When he realised I had discovered
this gem and how he had selfishly hid it from me, just to go sell it to
some filthy overweight American collector, Denis' face became as white
as snow, and the horrors I could do to this money hungry wise guy whom I
thought was my friend were enough for him to beg me not to hurt him and
to let him live! (Of course I had to, since he was my lift to New
York...) I put the record in my bag without saying a word and we drove
off in silence, Denis shaking behind the steering wheel!! Nobody messes
with MIMI!!!!!

Hey, can I have a lift to Boston for the Remains?? cui cui cui...

They didn't have any, but that was part of their charm......Actually, I think
it was the Astronauts playing with models used for the cover. Anyone care/dare

There is a Milkcow's Calf Blues on the complete recordings, but it would
have come out after Kokomo Arnold's Milk Cow Blues. So I suppose Arnold is
the winner.

Hiya--

This cd practically went out of print a week after it came out. The problem was
that the major label (Warner Bros.?) who was distributing the label dropped them.
Subsequently, they were picked up by another major for distribution that "re-issued"
some of the labels titles but not that one so far.

Best always,

I believe "Infinite Zero" was part of "American" which of course is
Rick Rubin's label.

the series was filmed.
The lead cast members  will be given commemorative sterling silver

Right guy, wrong label. Infinite Zero was a label that Rick Rubin -- one
of my celebrity dorm-mates -- formed along with Henry Rollins and maybe
some other people. I think it was meant to be strictly a re-issue label; I
have a sampler that includes a couple of Monks tracks along with some
tracks by Trouble Funk, Flipper, and others.

Infinite Zero I thought was a subsidiary of this imprint. The CD is also

I don't know a ton about 'em,but I know they did make them in the 70's
also.I think another company made 'em for Vox. I've also see Domino brand
copies from the late 60's/early 70's,but the one I played had a crappy
neck. The people to ask would be Gruehn (Gruen?) guitars. They get top
dollar, but they could answer ?'s on what years they were made.I believe
they're in Nashville. (sorry to be so vague...)

Yeah, I don't know these bands either and as you say, it's hard to tell
what kind of comp this is.

As I recall, it's a mid-80's sampler comp of Swedish stuff which was not
essential, but had a few good tracks by the likes of the Dirty Old Men
(Nomads in disguise). Don't think it's as solid, however, as Real Cool
Time (Distortions From the North) or Raw Cuts (Swedish volumes).

Bizarre, isn't it? I spoke to a couple of guys from the Black Diamonds and
they thought I was having them on when I said 'I Want, Need, Love You' is
one of the greatest trax of all time! The guy who sang it (Glenn Bland)
described the song as a "wank"; I think he preferred the bar band stuff he
was doing in the '70s. It's actually quite common for ex-sixties muso's to
see their early work as being naive and immature - when obviously, that's
what made it so kool!

It was credited to a Nicholas Roubanis sometime early in this century, who
knows?
What I do know is that it is a Greek tune about a lost love and there are
lyrics (in Greek). One of the first known U.S recordings of this tune in its
traditional style was by The Grecian Keys, a Greek music orchestra, in the
early 1950s. They still perform functions, dances, etc. in the N.Y.C. area to
this day. My mom's 1st cousin is the vocalist. "Miserlou" has since been
recorded in its original style by any number of Greek & Middle Eastern
orchestras ever since.

I was unaware of any recording by Harry James. While it doesn't change what
I originally wrote, it explains use of brass in Dick Dale's version of the
tune. I'll have to look up the Harry James recording.
