Never actually heard it but White Power Moron Ian Stuart also recorded a

Yeah, Mad 3 is amazing at live. They play shows here in
Tokyo quite often. They play not only in garage or rocknroll
gigs but also play with hardcore punk bands or other genres.
I was wondering if people was gonna mention them about their
short tour last fall, because I heard they played pretty early
at the night when the Remains played. They also played the
Garage Shock two years ago.

What I like them most is the drummer. Watching him playing
at live is a lot of fun.

Their new album called Teenage Delinquent is a bit
ecletic but still pretty good. The first album Jack The
Violence and 10 inch on Estrus are awesome.

mix it all together. oh and don't forget to blow the flames out before

my method: (don't laugh, this actually works despite how stupid it sounds)
but it takes some guts if it's a pricey disc. Place the disc between 2 plates
of glass (i.e. like outta of picture frame) and place extremely heavy
weighted object in the center to flatten the record out. I then wait for a
warm day (we fortunately have many)
and put the whole thing in the back window of my car, so the sun heats is up.
I leave it there, depending on how hot it is, for 10-15 minutes or until the
disc has begun to soften up. I then take it out to cool somewhere and apply
more weight all along the edges. After it cools the disc is usually good to
go. If it's an edge warp (these are a bit more difficult) then I apply more
weight to that area.
I have heard others that use blowdryers, an oven, or whatever as the
heating element. I started this after a record had warped in the car heat, so
I figured it could be unwarped there as well. Tony

Well, "Mojo Workout" is kind of a dance rave-up version of the Muddy
Waters/Ann Cole song. Incidentally, I think the Raiders version blows the
Kingsmen out of the water. "Grab yer bab-eh, you spin 'er 'round, grab both
hands, HOLLAH OUT LOUD!" -- Does the Larry Bright version include these
verses?

As much as I love Paul Revere and the Raiders in general, their early stuff
is really great, ass-kicking rock and roll. I'm still eagerly awaiting the
2-CD pre-Columbia collection on Sundazed that's been promised for months,
but is still not out.

According to the booklet with the Robert Johnson collection, Johnson did
quite a few covers. So as primitive as the RJ recordings are, very few of
the tracks are originals.

Speaking of "Milkcow Blues," why did the Chocolate Watch Band record this
with slightly different lyrics as "Don't Need Your Lovin'"? The Gonn
version is very similar to this track (from "Riot On Sunset Strip") which
is identical to the Kinks version which was titled "Milk Cow Blues."

Was this a similar situation to the Yardbirds rewriting "Train Kept A
Rollin'" as "Stroll On" for the movie "Blow Up"? Or was this an attempt to
dupe the record buyers?

Dave

PS Don't forget the Elvis Presley version on Sun, where the King starts out
crooning, stops and sez, "Hold it, fellas...that don't move me. Let's get
real, real gone for a change..."

This is from the liner notes to History of Northwest Rock Vol 1:

Born in Woking, Surrey, England, Limey Ian Whitcomb became a Northwest
rocker by accident. Ending a bus tour of the U.S. in Seattle (where he had
a cousin attending college), Ian soon became a favorite of patrons at the
old 92 Yesler coffee house. His unique entertainment skills--drawing on
ragtime, English music hall material, and some blues--prompted the owners to
take him to Jerry Dennon. Dennon signed Ian on the spot; but the first
single, an instrumental dubbed "Soho," made no impact.
Ian returned to his studies at Dublin's Trinity College, with instructions
from Dennon to record with his own rock band, Bluesville. In early 1965,
Ian came back to Seattle with the rough mix of a newly-arranged traditional
tune, "This Sporting Life," done in a style reminiscent of Eric Burdon and
the Animals. Dennon, Ian, and Gerry Roslie of the Sonics went back into the
studio to overdub organ and maracas. The record then went out on Jerden and
was immediately chosen KJR's "pick of the week." The rest, as they say, is
history.
Capitol Records' Tower subsidiary took the disc for national distribution,
and it quickly rose to a spot inside the national top 30...

[Well, actually it only made it to #100 in Billboard. It reached #11 at
KJR.]

Friends have said they have put the record in between two very smooth, well
cleaned, non stick straight pieces of metal and literally ironed it flat on
mummy's ironing board, without the ironing boards cover and foam. But I
have never tried this cos I could never find two pieces of metal like that.

Subject: West Coast Pop Art Experimental Leif Garrett

VH-1 showed a "Behind The Music" documentary on former 70s teen idol Leif
Garrett the other night. Not much of interest to Bomp listers, except that
one of the people interviewed was Leif's first producer, Michael Lloyd.

As I'm sure you all know, Michael Lloyd had started out in the West Coast
Pop Art Experimental Band in the mid and late '60s. Somehow, I think the
WCPAEB has more of a following nowadays than old Leif. Of course, when
Sundazed reissues Leif Garrett albums 10 years from now, we will see...

There's a track on the Big Beat comp "GS I Love You" of a band called The
Voltage singing Sam & Dave's "Hold On I'm Coming." Apparently, the Voltage
recorded a whole album of R&B hits called, surprise! "R&B Big Hits Album,"
in 1968 or so. This is one of the most demented, unintelligible covers on
the whole GS CD. Does anyone know if there are any available reissues of GS
albums, especially the aforementioned one?

Dave

PS Don't forget the American Breed's emasculated horn rock/soul cover of
The Shadows Of Knight "I'm Gonna Make You Mine."

<<Speaking of "Milkcow Blues," why did the Chocolate Watch Band record this
with slightly different lyrics as "Don't Need Your Lovin'"?>>

As I understand it, two original songs were requested for "Riot on Sunset
Strip" and the Watchband didn't prepare, so wrote both songs in the studio and
cut live. The Watchband's strength was never songwriting, so they wrote two
derivative but intense songs. I think that these two songs capture the energy
on the Watchband more than any of their Ed Cobb stuff. The two song are
nothing more than tweaked covers, Btu their vibrant delivery more than make up
for it.
