Hi,

Travelling through Vienna a week ago I came across, among others,
Teenage Shutdown 3 and The Barbarians CD-reissue (I discovered two quite
cool '60's/garage stores there, if anyone's interested). Although most
of you would be certainly more excited about discussing the TS series, I
would appreciate some info on the Barbarians, instead. (I can already
hear Jeroen say: "Hey, are we becoming a general-topic list?!).

Does anybody know if the singles numbers on their lp (cd) are the same
cuts as original 45s (how different?). Also, as their reportedly best
cut "Hey Little Bird" is omitted, any info on where I could find it -
preferably the TAMI Show version - would be greatly appreciated.

Hi...A little belated reply to the query about the Pop, but here it is. Prof.
Hova said the Pop had a cut on Rhino's D.I.Y. comp covering the L.A. scene:
"Down on the Boulevard" from around 1977. I'm pretty sure he's right, but I
can't lay my hands on my copy to see if they say anything more about the band
in the liner notes....may be it's time to shove this hovel out!!

also if you go to record fairs, this disc was bootlegged in the mid 80's,
(1000 copies were pressed) the sound is great on them though almost identical
to the original. The boots are white Joy labels on black vinyl and should sell

That's the idea behind using two sheets of glass, BUT you should really use
the heavy (1/4 - 3/8ths inch thick) stuff like they use for table tops.
You really don't want to be putting uneven pressure on regular window glass
for obvious reasons. Apply heat evenly, say your prayers and allow plenty
of time to cool...

Of course, if this fails you could always do what a friend and I did about
15 years ago... we took several hundred unwanted review LPs from the
magazine where we worked and, with the aid of a pizza oven, some heavy duty
work gloves and two tubes of "Liquid Nail," melted, molded and glued the
whole scale-like assemblage front to back over his Volkswagen Squareback.
We were especially proud of the Stegosaurus plates running up and over the
hood and roof of the car. The coolest thing was when he'd hit a pothole at
30+ mph and one or more of the LPs would break free and go skittering
menacingly across the street into traffic like some fugitive beastie from
"Aliens."

Now, THAT's warped.

County, 10 Years of Sympathy For the Record Industry, The Saints, Sit
N'Spin, and tons more, including the newest edition of my own 60 Second
Swinger. (Of course, it may seem a wee bit out of date, 'cuz I started it
when Spencer the Editor asked for it a few months ago, and finished the
whole thing sometime in December when he gave me a due date. Ah well... at
least it's still something to read and jump around thru.)

Spencer and I are trying something new on 60 Second Swinger... breaking it
up into pieces, in the hopes that this'll keep people's machines from

That Bilbo Baggins song is unreal!! A friend of mine played it for me last
week, and being a fan of both the Hobbitt and Star Trek, well, it was only
logical that I would find it amusing!!

There's either a cover of that song (or maybe the original, I don't know) on
"Wild Things Vol.2" (NZ Garage) by the Pleazers...don't know if I'd say the
singer sounds like Mick Jagger, but then you could have another version on
your tape...and it is called "Security" funnily enough!

Also, a reissue of Immigrants '66 LP (teen garage sounds from Kansas

Subject: the stooges / the inmates

i have (what i assume is) the stooges self titled full length and listened
to it yesterday for the first time in probably a year. was this their best
release? i really like the songs 1969 and No Fun. i also like We Will
Fall, but i feel i need to be sedated to get the full effect of the song :)
anyway, is their other stuff more in the vien of 1969 and No Fun or more
in the hippie psych stuff like We Will Fall?

yesterday i bought a few lp's for cheap. luckily for me. one lp was from
a band called The Inmates. they did a cover of Dirty Water by The
Standells. so i thought they were down. unfortunately their album wasn't
all that good. anyone familiar with The Inmates? was this their only lp?
best lp? they looked pretty snazzy AND did a cover of Dirty Water, so i
thought i was in for a treat. i thought wrong :)

the rest of my haul:

Eric Burdon and The Animals: the best of (didn't do much for me)
The Shakin' Pyramids: Skin' Em Up (not bad, but i prefer my rockabilly with
more umph!)
Stray Cats: Built For Speed (yeehaw! the stray cat's sound better on vinyl
then on cd)
Leonard Cohen: the best of.. (still gotta listen to it)

shawn.

I have heard much about this film but never seen it. Is it worth the time? Do
the performances by the Standells and The Chocolate Watchband make up for the
exploitive, melodramatic storyline? If its worth seeing, does anyone know
where to find a copy? I've never seen it for sale.
Thanks

I think they had at least two LP's. The one I have has pretty good (in an
early 80's new wave/punky sorta way) covers of "Talk Talk" and "Stop It
Baby", but I agree the Inmates (from Engloand I believe) were not all that
interesting or special. Still, they were hip to to some cool material!

I think that Inmates lp is pretty good, though I have not put it on in a few
years. I think they covered Midnight to Six man,by the Pretty Things on that
lp. I will have to find it and give it a spin to see if it still gets my
thumbs up. The Inmates had a long career, and were popular in Germany for a
long time. I am not sure if they are still together or not. They made many
lps, including one with the singer from Eddie and the Hot Rods. Later versions
of the band included Eddie from the Vibrators on drums. The Magazine Hartbeat
included a long history of this band a few years ago.
About the Stooges, they can make anything rock and did no wrong in my book.

It's been a while since I've seen that episode of "The Flintstones", so
after I bought the Rhino CD of tunes from the show, I was kind of shocked
at how "religious" the CD version was. Am I wrong, or were the TV-version
lyrics "Mothers never lose, and fathers never win" vs. the CD lyrics
"Smilers never lose, and frowners never win"?

The original is by Otis Redding!.
The Thane Russel Three version is the one where the singer looks and sounds
like Mick Jagger.
