Any pics???. I would love to see??. I used to live in this flat where the
oven didn't work properly and the outside of it used to heat up. Apart from
hand burns I made some creative pieces. I had this Kinks record that was
very scratched. So I left it half sitting on the top of the oven when it
was on. Two hours later after it cooled it was a 'right angle'. So I put
it on the bookshelf, swooping over the facade as a type of Dali piece.
Years later I got a good clean copy of that neat Kinks record.

If your talkin' about 'Riot on Sunset Strip' - &%#@ yea!. Performances by
the Bands are wyld and the exploitive melodramatic storyline is great too.
See it at any cost, P.S. some of the cast make appearances on 'Dr Kildare'
and Gidget among others.

of working condition. E-mail him at ray4376@worldnet.att.net

I heard that Thee Michelle Gun Elephant will be in the US sometime soon.
They are supposed to play at the South By Southwest music conference in
Austin, TX, but I don't know when this will be taking place. Anyone knows
if they have plans to do a tour of the US?

He had the same ones on Ebay. He sold the Compact Deluxe for $500, but I
think he still has the other ones. He was nice enough to send us pics. I
saved the pic of the Compact Deluxe as the background for my desktop!

Blair, you will be happy to know that I just picked up the Farfisa VIP 233
yesterday. It's in great shape, but the thing is a monster! With the case
and legs it's gigantic.

On the case there's a cool sticker with wavy letters "Handle With Love - Sam
Ash Music."

The sounds on it are out of this world. Running it through a solid-state
practice guitar amp distorts it somewhat, but if I bring the levels down
it's clean.

Not only does it make the standard Farfisa sounds, it makes some really neat
spaced-out quasi-Moog tones! I understand the VIP models came out in the
late '60s and early 70s, so that sounds about right.

Now I just need to practice. How do you get to Carnegie Hall?

[Well, "Mojo Workout" is kind of a dance rave-up version of the Muddy
Waters/Ann Cole song. Incidentally, I think the Raiders version blows the
Kingsmen out of the water. "Grab yer bab-eh, you spin 'er 'round, grab both
hands, HOLLAH OUT LOUD!" -- Does the Larry Bright version include these

Anyone know - Is this the same high-powered blaster as the Bobby Long 'Mojo

No, it's not the same. The Raiders' version is "Got My Mojo Workin'" more
or less.

The Bobby Long tune is completely different. Just about everything on the
Lookey Dookey comp kicks f**kin' ass!

[when Sundazed reissues Leif Garrett albums 10 years from now, we will
see...]

HA HA HA, let's hope not!

I saw part of the same VH1 show. My interest was piqued when Leif (and his
mama) complained about his crooked pro-douchers, the Scotti Bros, who
dictated what songs he could cover. Leif's accusations of corruption and
powerlording ring true.

Recently I finished a book about the independent promoters in the record
biz in the US, called "Hit Men" by Frederick Dannen, published in the early
90's.

It mentions a run-in between the Scotti Bros and other mafia-type promo
guys, who brought big bodyguards to a business meeting. A scuffle broke
out over who was gonna promote major labels' records to a certain Florida
radio station whose management changed. (The station was previously under
Scottis' jurisdiction). The bodyguards twisted one of the Bros' legs till
it broke, then threatened his life so he wouldn't press charges afterwards!

I don't think the VH1 show mentioned Scottis' role as indie promo men, and
neither did the book say they were in the management biz, but the two
accounts mesh for me...

The Nimoy cuts I've heard aren't too exciting. I like Shatner better as a
vocal performer, although he ain't too good either.

I do remember hearing an EP which the Mummies had something to do with. I
don't know who else was on it. It was called "F**k You Spaceman" and on it
was the Star Trek intro being spoken in Italian over an accordeon.

Just saw two Johnny Thunders 10" releases on Munster Records. Apparently
recorded in 1982-83, and they includ plenty of Dolls, Heartbreakers and
solo period Thunders as well as 60s covers. Has anyone heard these, and if
so how is the sound quality, etc.?

I almost had a heart attack today when I came back at 1pm only to
realise funny man Keith Patterson had left a message in my voice mail at
work! I called him back, and censorship laws oblige, I will only leave
you with this information...

The Conquerors will be heard on National Public Radio, in
stereomoronophonic, this coming Saturday Jan. 23rd, from 11'30am-noon,
eastern time, on a game show called "What Do You Know?"...(?? I sware,
you Americans...)

Anyway, they'll play only 2 songs, and there will be a rebroadcast
either Saturday or Sunday evening.

Tune in, Turn on, Drop Dead!

The Bird and The Young Animals

While typing up descriptions of various movie press books I’ve been
selling on eBay of late, came up with a couple that I want to share with
my fellow Bompers.

WATCH THE BIRDIE is a mid-60s adult film which sounds like its right out
of the Irving Klaw bondage school of film making. If you want to see a
synopsis, check out my eBay listings later tonight when it’ll be on
there. The most intriguing thing about the flick was that according to
the press book, it includes the song, "The Bird Is The Word," by ROCKY
ROBERTS AND THE AIRDALES! Its was released sometime in the mid-60s by
American Film Distributing Corp. I assume its the same tune done by The
Rivingtons, the booklet gives song credits to Doug Fowlkes and Rocky
Roberts. Is this version on any collections anyone might know of. I’m
gonna see if I can find a copy of the movie through my sources and check
it out.

THE YOUNG ANIMALS, released in 1968 by American International Pictures,
is the other one. And is the story of race relations in a small border
town. Two bands are featured in the film, "THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION," who
perform "Love Has Got Me Down," and "THE ORPHAN EGG," who perform "In
Big Letters." The latter band were the winners of a Battle Of The Bands
sponsored by the Vox Division of the Thomas Organ Company according to
the pressbook notes and a picture of them appears on the back cover. I
have scanned a copy of it and it can bee seen at the following URL:
http://www2.netcom.com/~sheltone/mpbyounganimals999jpeg.jpg

Any idea if either of these bands released anything on vinyl or if
there’s more info on them somewhere? Since AIP was California based, I
assume, and I could be wrong, that both bands are from the Sunshine
state.

Sean: Agreed. I love the Inmates only for doing this song. It's weird, in
the 80's a
lot of pop bands did one garage song in their rep. The Inmates version of
Dirty Water is really quite good! And the album appears in every used record
store in America, usually in the $1-$3 record bin!

The Orphan Egg had an lp but I can't recall the letter. The track "In Big
Letters" they do on the movie is A#1 but not on the lp. It sounds earlier, has
anyone ever seen it on a 45?
The AMerican Revolution have an lp and 45 on Flickdisc(Sidewalk sub. i think)
it's okay, but nothing to rave about. The track in the movie is on the lp, but
it sounds better in the movie. Tony

Well, I reckon it's worth it for the bands, unfortunately I don't know where
there's a copy you could buy, but we have a GREAT video store here in
Brisbane called Trash Video, and they hire it out....although come to think
of it, it's probably in the wrong format for you guys over there, but if you
like, I can get the address of the store for you and you could write to El
Stumpo (the Trash man), he still might be able to help you out

A local store has a couple of copies of a 24 song Swinging Blue Jeans
anthology, for a good price. My question, is it worth buying? I know only
Hippie Hippie Shake, and nothing else by them. My tastes run to the Raw,
punkier side of things rather then the Pop side of things.

Thanks, Eric

I think it's safe to say that you probably wouldn't like them. They're
more like Freddie and the Dreamers or Herman's Hermits - very tame and
"poppy".
