It's a pretty decent LP, mostly covers but quite rockin'. I think (not
certain) that there was recently a reissue of the Pleazers album on CD, but
I haven't been able to track one down. Raven put out a compilation of their
tracks in the 80s, although it might be difficult to find this now. Several
of their best tracks (along with other unbelievable NZ stuff) are on Wild
Things which should still be available (vinyl or CD).
Does anyone have the new Chants R&B album? Does it differ much from the
Stage Door Witchdoctors release from a couple o' years back?
Regarding Thane Russal - his version of 'Security' was a big hit in
Australia and copies of the 45 (on CBS) turn up quite often. I remember
hearing the song on the radio heaps during the late '70s. Apparently Thane
Russal was the Rolling Stones' coffee boy when they were recording, and I've
heard that it may actually BE the Stones backing him on Security. Anyone
confirm or deny?

I have a Swinging Blue Jeans CD on EMI, but unfortunately most of it's
pretty lame. My advice would be get it if it's cheap.Their best track is
'You're No Good' - classic Merseybeat that's not unlike the Hollies (it was
annoyingly covered by Linda Ronstadt in the '70s).

Hova got his hands on that record and played it on WFMU today. It sounded like Badfinger with really bad '70s
production (close-miked drums, cheesey effects). No great loss to the music world if it's not available on CD.
The best thing about hearing it was remembering this thread. Guess it wasn't a coincidence.

I believe the first LP was recorded in a studio at Carnegie Hall.

Tonight, Melissa and I were eating in a Japanese restaurant. The music
was the usual Japanese pop until we heard some familiar chords. The
tape had a Japanese band covering "The KKK took my baby away"!
Unfortunately, we never did find out who the band was.

The Bird and The Young Animals

While typing up descriptions of various movie press books I’ve been
selling on eBay of late, came up with a couple that I want to share with
my fellow Bompers.

WATCH THE BIRDIE is a mid-60s adult film which sounds like its right out
of the Irving Klaw bondage school of film making. If you want to see a
synopsis, check out my eBay listings later tonight when it’ll be on
there. The most intriguing thing about the flick was that according to
the press book, it includes the song, "The Bird Is The Word," by ROCKY
ROBERTS AND THE AIRDALES! Its was released sometime in the mid-60s by
American Film Distributing Corp. I assume its the same tune done by The
Rivingtons, the booklet gives song credits to Doug Fowlkes and Rocky
Roberts. Is this version on any collections anyone might know of. I’m
gonna see if I can find a copy of the movie through my sources and check
it out.

THE YOUNG ANIMALS, released in 1968 by American International Pictures,
is the other one. And is the story of race relations in a small border
town. Two bands are featured in the film, "THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION," who
perform "Love Has Got Me Down," and "THE ORPHAN EGG," who perform "In
Big Letters." The latter band were the winners of a Battle Of The Bands
sponsored by the Vox Division of the Thomas Organ Company according to
the pressbook notes and a picture of them appears on the back cover. I
have scanned a copy of it and it can bee seen at the following URL:
http://www2.netcom.com/~sheltone/mpbyounganimals999jpeg.jpg

Any idea if either of these bands released anything on vinyl or if
there’s more info on them somewhere? Since AIP was California based, I
assume, and I could be wrong, that both bands are from the Sunshine
state.

Bizarre. I believe a guy I know at my college is the brother of the owner of

was called Trash Video, but I'm not too sure. I haven't seen him around

his brother goes to school at UCSB? We're NTSC here in the States, if the

classic cover witha great pair of beatle boots on it amidst the dreck of a

the late 80's---i thought they had indeed reformed with hurley---a real fun

Since Steve's supposed to be tour managing and driving for 'em I assumed
they were at least gonna play shows on their way from the east coast to

The Inmates version of Dirty water actually says "Oh London your my home" if

Which most other covers of the song dont.

I have this film and Its alternative title is "Born Wild". The Bands in it
are out of sight, especially the pool scene. I thought the Orphan Egg song
was called "Something is There". But I am not totally sure. Anyway I have
seen a double album of garage type stuff and it had the Orphan Egg song
"Something is There" on it, the cover was black from memory with the bands
listed on the back in silver or white. James says he had this record and
that its called "Turds on a bum ride". But neither of us have been able to
establish if we are talking about the same record. I do curse myself for
not buying the one I saw many years ago it was only $30 Australian!. Does
anyone know more?.
