The Makers page has been moved to:
http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Plaza/6787/

This gives me more web space, and should generate more hits, and stuff like
that. I've updated it a little....with some new pictures. I'm thinking of
adding another picture page. Tours will be posted, as they are going to
Australia, New Zealand, and Europe in the upcoming months. Sorry for the
inconvenience. I was planning on updating the page while I moved it, and
then giving out the address, but it seems like my plan got foiled.

I expected a much more positive review from Dawn, considering she was going
pretty wild for awhile that night. Ah well, she's no longer the teenybopper
fan she was back in 1984. Rather, she's been doing commercial music writing
for a long time now. (The scariest thing was when I saw her interviewed by
one of those TV magazine shows when the Keith Richards v. Elton John thing
went on.)

As to the Outsiders book; There's plenty of info, but the writtin'
ain't that good. Haven't yet picked up the Wally Tax book but
people in the know tell me that both books haven't yet sold more
then 500 copies, so I guess there's little chance of a english
translation.

BTW, one of our national daily papers is currently doin' a series of
articles on obscure Dutch beat groups. So far they've covered ao;
Peter & the Blizards and Group $oal. pretty cool I'd say.

Denny McLain, pitcher, put out a record of organ music, called, believe it
or not, "Denny McLain at the Organ". The record is wonderfully awful, but
one has not lived until one has heard his version of Donovan's "Hurdy Gurdy
Man".

I am glad someone mentioned Arthur Lee Maye! I have part of an interview
with him from the Johnny Otis Show; I believe that Otis produced some of
his records.

For other sports cameos, didn't Willie Mays actually show up on "Say Hey
(The Willie Mays Song)" by the Treniers?

Muhammad Ali not only sang "Stand by Me" (welllll, he's not exactly a
singer, but...um, nice song?) and "Will the Real Sonny Liston Please Fall
Down", that is him introducing "Wack Wack" by Young-Holt Unlimited.

On the absurd end of the scale, I have a very clear memory of Ken Norton,
Sr. singing (well, grunting) and playing the keyboards on Late Night with
David Letterman.

Any women athlete/recording artists? Glynis, Hitomi, Mimi help!

long a sentimental favorite of mine, because not only did they play oldies

Hey, I think all of the mod pop/bubblegum stuff by Zoot (as collected on
the early 80s comp ZOOT LOCKER) is fantastic! In fact, the only song of
theirs that I DON'T like is their heavy version of "Eleanor Rigby."

By the way, Rick Springfield wasn't on all of their stuff; I believe he
joined around '69 or '70. But his Zoot stuff is great too.

No, Just One Look was originally recorded and co-written by Doris Troy,
unless there is a second song by that name that the Hollies performed. Ian
Whitcomb mentioned on a radio show he had that Liverpool, being a port
city, benefitted from American sailors bringing over great records and
eventually, upper-class twentysomethings made trips to the states to buy
anything they thought would be a hot item, which may explain the
occasionally obscure covers that the groups did, Devil in his Heart by the
Donays, for example, as well as Some Other Guy by Richard Barrett.

In 1986 I was asked to sit in on guitar with some members of the Queers,
Joe King and Kevin Kecy. Also sitting in for the first time was drummer
High O'Neill. Hugh had played around the Boston scene for some years and
had just done a stint in the Millionaires Club with Mattherw McKenzie
from Boston's Reddy Teddy and Richard Lloyd's Alchemey. The 4 of us
became the second version of the Queers to hit vinyl with the debut LP
Grow Up. As others came and went as the Queers Hugh maintained the drum
seat for over 10 years. In 1996 I was asked to produce a new project
with the Queers. We had the pleasure to work together on that bands
critically acclaimed Lookout release, Don't Back Down. In the 10 years I
knew Hugh he had a running battle with addictions. In 1997 Hugh was
turning things around and was winning the battle, day at a time, ever
since. Yesterday Hugh lost another battle, one to a cancer related
illness. He leaves a recorded legacy of about 10 albums to his credit.
Many lost a good friend, we all lost a great drummer!

I love Namelosers' new Orleans.
And I bet them as best cover version of Land of 1000 dances.

So here I am, flipping through today's NY Times, and out jumps a photo of
Jim Kelly (ex-Buffalo Bills quarterback) holding an electric guitar, with
Doug Flutie (current Bills QB) helping him tune it. A set of drums is
also visible. The bomp list - always on the cutting edge!

I guess this would be the '60s equivalent of buying boxed sets of cheapo
CDs of "original artists" remaking their old hits, with generic names like
"Hits Of The '60s" or "Big Box of Rock," etc. You can usually find these
for 10 bucks (5 bucks less than an average single full-length CD).

But in retrospect, I'm pretty sure it's just not the same.

How about "Hey Joe, Where You Goin' With Those Nylons On Your Legs?" by the
