Hey folks, just a quick note to let you know that tonight (Mon 1/25 6-9EST)
is the last live show for WDOA on internet radio station Palmsradio.com.
The good news is WDOA is in the process of expanding it's programming on our
own web site. The programming will for the most part be in half hour blocks
that you can access via Real Audio 24/7. While we are currently at
www.ultranet.com/~wdoa, hopefully within the next week we will have moved to
www.wdoa.com. Also if anyone has an idea for a program send it along and
we'll consider it...

In my wanderings about yesterday I came across a tv that was showing, of
all things, Pretty Things footage from the 60s to the 90s! There seemed
to be a bit of an interview going on but I couldn't be sure...I was
having problems with the sound. Anyhow, it was on CNN, on some show
called World Beat (yeah, you can imagine what came after the Pretties)
at around 3:30. Did anyone get a chance to see it? And more
importantly, HEAR it? I'd love to know what was going on...I think they
might have even shown footage from that record show during the Cave
Stomp weekend!
Bye for now,

However, I think that Bobby Day wins this one, because he wrote it. Did
Harris wait around Bobby Day's house for songs? I know that he covered
Day's "Little Bitty Pretty One", did he do the same on this song?

As a humorous NOT scholarly note, I refer to Day's version of "Over and
Over" as one of the first Ska tunes. Also, Ersel Hickey's "Bluebirds Over
the Mountain" sounds sort of reggae-ish before the fact as well!

raved about it - this before Tommy. They also claim that Townsend now
claims to never have heard it.

Even in their heyday the Diodes were kinda boring onstage but they sounded
OK altho not dynamic by any stretch. Their album stunk, tho, because the
guitar was waaay down in the mix and the whole thing sounded stilted and
calculated. Their post-album single. "Tired of Waking Up Tired" is great
tho!! I am curious if the new retro has been remixed - it could be a good
album with remix.

Subject: AMC American Pop

I just saw a preview for upcoming movies on AMC's "American Pop" series,
and the most interesting one was "The Ghost In The Invisible Bikini,"
which, although it wasn't mentioned in the trailer, included an appearance
by the Bobby Fuller 4.

Right now, they are showing some program called "Hollywood Backstage,"
which just featured footage of the Hollywood-A-Go-Go, with the Sinners on
stage, and are now talking to a couple guys from AIP about the musical
scene. Pretty interesting things to say abou the Beatles, and this _before_
AIP made "Riot On Sunset Strip." The older guy (a producer I think) just
mentioned a 5-piece band called the Arrogants, with his son as the
vocalist. Garage band or Hollywood go-go brats? Anyone know?

But then they've brought it down a notch with a segment on Jack Jones. Come
on guys! Get back to the rock and roll.

Tonight's feature was "Hot Rod Gang," a film from, surprise! AIP. So does
this set the tone for all the future AIP features? I'm really hoping AMC
will break down and show "Riot On Sunset Strip." Gene Vincent's appearances
were pitifully brief, very little to divert from the hip daddio dragster
storyline.

no..not a typo...just a different band. i think they're a "pop-punk"
band from the suburbs. this matter has actually caused some confusion
other places that we've played. namely rockford, where they have also
played a lot. we did hit the fireside..but a little over a month
earlier...not exactly the kinda place we wanna go back to...too many
"skakids" for our tastes(or theirs for that matter)!

Watch out 'cause bimbos with cigars have turned out quite dangerous for

Yes there will be CD re-issues of Quebec 60s girls. But they are
Carmen Déziel, Ginette Reno and the likes. The only interesting ones
are Claire Lepage, Jenny Rock, and Karo. But even then, I hear, the
song selection has a lot to be desired. Just like the 60s Groupes du
Québec CDs... No competition there!!!!!!! Denis

There was a band called Arrogance according to Delerium, and they put out
an album in 1969, which is certainly after the fact. The producer Don
Dixon was in that band. They were from North Carolina.

Yes. And I was reading Echoes magazine (not music, but furniture) and it
has an article
on Easy Listening and other 60's stuff, and mentioned a few CD's
compilations out of French
girl pop...not Ultra Chicks!

I dunno, they actually went through the process of
interviewing me live about a fanzine I used to
do. I forget exactly what strange hour it was in
the US to correspond to the morning show... and I
never got a tape.

  >>
I agree with you on this point. And what I said wasn't advocating absolute
free rein. I was just pointing out that readers shouldn't be so quick to blame
the writer. You allow writers a lot more freedom than I have, writing at a
daily newspaper, where I'm subject to the whims of any and all editors who
read the story. And that includes copy editors who's only claim to fame is an
English degree and no street time as a reporter. I think there is a difference
between having standards, such as not allowing writers to use your publication
as a forum for hate and prejudice and over editing a story.

<>

That doesn't mean the editor is omnipotent. Writers reserve the right to
protest when something that bears their name is being butchered. It's writings
version of Tom and Jerry, although I think each side gets to switch who's the
mouse and who's the cat. When an editor "shapes" something in such a fashion
that it is no longer what the writer wrote, what their opinion is, or if the
editing makes a fact inaccurate or untruthful, it goes beyond stiffling the
writer's self expression: its equivalent to journalistic malpractice. I
watched writers with more experence than I have tell an editor to take their
name of the story.
Yes, we accept certain conditions of employment. I work at a newspaper
where I can't quote someone saying "sucks" "hell" or "Damn" even though these
words have become acceptable for broadcast. Like any writer, I choose my
battles carefully, so my editors know, when I go to the wall over a change,
I'm not crying wolf. Neither side has a corner on who's right, who's wrong and
who's got the answer. But it's equally as wrong to assume the writer is wrong
and the editor is always right.
Anyway, It's good to know that you take your position as editor of your
publication as seriously as you do.
