Just to inform you about those cool new releases, out soon!!
                UPCOMING RELEASES

                RELEASE DATE: 11/02/99

THE BOBBYTEENS 7” “Treat me right/Girl down town” SCAP 053

THE BOBBYTEENS are a trademark of high quality rock´n´roll. Obsessed by the
glam and glitter of the seventies, the total “over the top” pop of this
decade and of
course the beginning of punk, two ex TRASHWOMEN and one former MUMMY create
something not so new but definately spectacular for your listening
pleasure. Imagine NIKKI & THE
CORVETTES would jam with the RUNAWAYS and you know what we´re talking about.
They could
easily made it on the foldout of every teenybopper magazine in 1976.
Throwing punk and glitter in one bin, the BOBBYTEENS play a really important
part in the new generation of glamorous rock´n´roll.

THE MCRACKINS LP “Comicbooks & bubblegum” SCALP
123

Hatching onto the international punk scene in January 1995 with their
brilliant debut album “What came first”, those two crazy canadian eggheads
and chicken known as THE MCRACKINS have amazed and astounded wide-eyed
onlookers with their human
feats and accomplishments. Thus, establishing themselves as one of the best
and most
prolific power-pop/ pop-punk bands of the 90´s.
Having released over 200 songs on over 30 different labels and extensively
touring Europe, the USA and Canada, THE MCRACKINS will not and cannot be
stopped in the quest for
world domination.
Starting 1999 off with a bang,THE MCRACKINS are teaming up once again with
Germany´s SCREAMING APPLE RECORDS for their first studio album release in
nearly two
years, entitled “Comicbooks & bubblegum”.
The album features 15 new slabs of grade-A bubblepunk served up the way only
THE MCRACKINS can. It´s a remarkable collection of irresistible toons with
the
trademark melodies, great lyrics and hooks galore that have made the band a
favorite
among power-pop/punk fans the world over.
This record will eggcite MCRACKINS fans and win over the non-believers once
and for all.

THE STILETTO BOYS 7” “All alone/You said” SCAP 055

Stop the presses! There´s a new STILETTO BOYS record for you to own, love
and
cherish!
It´s records like this one that makes life worth living! This is what it´s
all
about: triumphant, exciting, catchy energetic punk rock with hooks and
attitude. These guys are
rock´n´roll at it´s absolute finest.
Take the DEAD BOYS/HEARTBREAKERS punk´n´roll fury and then inject it with
classic power-pop and rock´n´roll melodic power and you know what you get
with the
STILETTO BOYS.

THE RAYDIOS LP “Original demo recordings”
SCALP 121

We all remember those days of darkness and depression when one of the best
rock´n´roll bands of the nineties, the japanese hitmakers TEENGENERATE split
up.
But there´s no need to be desperate anymore. The sad days are over now.
Fink and Sammy, 50% of the legendary TEENGENERATE line-up have returned on
the
scene and invite us to their brandnew ´77 punk-rock extravaganza.
Together with drummer Yoda, they´ve formed this new sensational combo in
order
to preach their visions of true rock´n´roll.
Heavily influenced by the US punk invasion of the mid-seventies, the RAYDIOS
often remind us even on the belguim punk gods the KIDS.They´ve got all the
rock´n´roll
stylings,but also killer hooks,great songs and full-on punk-attitude.
And that´s exactly what you expect of a TEENGENERATE follow-up, right??!!
Unfortunately this band has just exist for a few months, but the good news
are that Fink, Sammy and Fifi, 3/4 of TEENGENERATE have just formed a new
rock´n´roll armada
called FIRESTARTER, which will surely continue where TEENGENERATE and the
RAYDIOS
stopped. So watch out for more crazy japanese punk-rock soon!

Hi,
I've been on Digest form for about a month as Business is keeping me away alot. I
don't know how long the Sharkskin thread (ha) has been goin so forgive me if I'm
being redundent. I just was compelled. to reply.
My first band, the Deserters in 1965 wore Sharkskin suits. We had 2 that we
alternated with. A 'peacock blue' and a 'seagreen'. The pants were no cuff,
continental waist with horizontal pockets, and a 1 inch slit on the side bottom for
black suede Beatle Boots, and black turtleneck jerseys to complete the outfit.
Sometimes the drummer would wear a tan camel hair jacket and black or white Levis
with a turtleneck. When Desert Boots started coming out in black we opted for those
as well. There was a band at school that wore a copper/brown sharkskin suit with
high collar "Dino' shirts (usually banana colored) and ties but that didn't appeal
to me as much. 20 years later, my band the Odds were playin in Virginia and I found
a Sharkskin suit in a thrift shop. Within a couple weeks Preston and Steve had one.
Although the color s didn't match, they effect was great.
I ran by a post from one of yez that said something like 'no vintage clothes for the
pudgy' AMEN! I look at that Sharkskin Suit today (yeah I still have it) and my cat
couldn't fit in it. Thanx! - JJ

>To digress for a minute, what really bothers me is the fact that the
excellent artwork on the original Lp of It's a Kave In has gone
un-reprinted
on the cd reissue, is this to evade paying artist royalties I can only
wonder???? for it was the best cover-art of any band anywhere and
anytime.
Its a shame those buying the cd re-issue wont get to see what I am
talking
about.<

Actually the lp is still floating around. I imagine someone on this list
has both versions, the sound is supposed to be improved on the CD. Also,
when I compared the tracks from both in a store, it seemed some of the lp
tracks were left off the CD (although the CD has more tracks overall),
but now it appears there's a volume 2 coming out. It is a shame the CD
sleeve couldn't have folded out into a repro of the original cover (a
fine ink drawing of a caveman guitarist who looks like he needs a potty
break). Maybe v. 2?

Other unmentioned Aussie comps are two volumes of "Sixties Downunder",
on Raven, a bit haphazard in track selection, but pleasantly varied and a
good overview of the scene (including tracks by the Bee Gees, Easybeats,
Master's Apprentices, you get the idea....). Midnight may have these,
but if you're in the habit of searching used CD bins these might turn up
(and worth the money if you CAN find them used, don't shell out too much
for these).
A word about the 'psych' scene downunder. It didn't explode down there
the way it did in the States and Britain, mainly because people weren't
'turning on', due mostly to lack of available light switches. The ground
covered in "No. 8 Wire" (part 3 of Wild Things), and "Forest of Goldtops"
(the Aussie counterpart), follows the pop-sike mode popularized in
England, mostly finely crafted and often orchestrated songs about, well,
late sixties stuff, you know, love and all that. Nothing really
counter-culture. Nothing really Chocolate Soupish. I recommend "Forest"
for it's generous helping of fine songs (when it comes down to it, on any
comp, it's the songs, not the sound, that I get into). "No. 8 Wire" is a
less thrilling ride, albeit with a totally kick-ass jacket.
Poor distribution may make any of the comps we've discussed worth
snatching up on sight, unless you're waiting for an Australian Nuggets
boxed set.

What's up with that?

Rockaway Records
Great CD bargains, pricy collectable vinyl. A neat thing they have is
original record company promo posters. I saw 13th Floor Elevators, Music
Explosion, Paul Revere, Animals, and a few other garage/psych posters for
$7-15. They also have a collection of reel-to-reel tapes.

Rhino Records
I never leave here without spending half a paycheck. Check the back for new
$6 overstock CDs.

Vinyl Fever (I think that's the name)
Pretty good bargain rack.

There's a few more good ones but I can't recall them at the moment. There is
no shortage of opportunities to part with your money.

Spaceland
Not too bad of a venue for a town full of hipsters. Not completely
cheap though. They still smoke in the pool room, although it's illegal.
Check the listings. A little too much indie rock for my tastes though.
Sometimes, like on Mondays, there's no cover and you can see real teen
garage bands play.

Which reminds me of a song.

"I met her in a club called Spaceland
I was on a trip to the Promised Land
She was pretty cute and I was pretty goofy
I felt just like an actor in a movie"

Also, there are two clubs that have mod/soul/britpop nights on Sundays and
Mondays. I misplaced the flyers I picked up in December, but you can find
the handbills piled up at any record store.

You might wanna ask Kim Cooper <scram@bubblegum.net>. She is the queen of
taste in a town full of wankers.

I have Watch For Me Girl 10" on Wallbies (a small Japanese label).
It's compiled by Fink and released before Teengenerate broke up
I believe. There are six bands, the Sinster Six (plays Bad Attitude),
Woggles (Guilty Child), Supersnazz (From Home), Teengenerate (Mighty
Idy), Devil Dogs (Lift Up Your Hood) and the Action Family (Don't Jump Me
Mother). It's a great record.

If some of you guys are into current Japanese bands, dig the first
Coastersride single. I heard they are touring in the States soon.

Guitar Wolf new album, needless to say, is awesome. Vocal sounding
is better than ever.

Subject: Wanted Bands for new club in San Diego!!

Hey everyone,
We're in the process of getting a club together in San Diego the second
Saturday of every month. It will be called "Hipsters" and will have DJ's
spinning Freakbeat Soul, garage (something for everyone) plus one band each
month.
It is on Adams Avenue nextdoor to the Kensington Club. 21+ but they do allow
smoking and is a full bar.
If any bands happen to be touring through San Diego and are interested in
playing, Please email Anja at ------> uglythings@znet.com.
                       Thanks Tony Sanchez

<< On The Dukes Of Hamburg Twist-Time LP the third track on side two is
listed as Women (Berry). Not sure what track it's SUPPOSED to be, but it
sounds an awful lot like I Can't Believe by The Brood (from Hitsville).
 What's up with that? >>

It is the same song.... but it's not the Brood's song, they're just covering
it as well. The Lord High Fixers do it too on their Au go-go lp.
