Subject: New in my shopping bag

Hello, here's the new stuff I just got so you'll have an idea of what's
inside the groove if you wanna get'em too...

The Return Of The Amphetamine Generation is a neat collection of
acetates & local 45s from the British mid60s. If you have enjoyed the
Purple Heart Surgery series or the previous vol. (Revenge Of...), you'll
dig this one too. The cut by the Q Set is a must for every mod-sound
lover.

The Incredible Sound Show Stories vol.11 (no 9 or 10 yet) will please
people who like late 60s pop sike. It mostly great stuff with bands from
UK, US, Netherlands, Belgium & even Jacques Dutronc.

I Hate The Beatles is a great novelty sampler. If you want to know how
Yellow Submarine sounds in Finnish or I Feel Fine in Ukranian, you'll
need this one. I guess those who love the Beatles should enjoy it even
more than the opposite clan.

Surfer's Mood vol.4 is filled with the usual nice'n'moody stuff but the
last cut is missing (Jerry & the Catalinas): I can understand that a
small label forget to ask a test pressing to the plant & get screwed up.
But Romulan is part of a quite big empire (who already gave a wrong
track listing on Surf Creature vol.2... easy to find out with instros!)
& I cannot find any excuses for them ripping off people like this.

Searching For Love is very poppy & will disappoint anyone who looks for
60s punk. I still find it enjoyable but don't pay too much for that one
before listenning to it.

The Incredible Kings/Elegants split 45 on Norton is a must for every
Northwest sound lover. Greasy & punky r&b!

If you need a lil' merseybeat, both volumes of Live At The Liverpool
Hoop (sadly cd only) should please you. No big deal but some fine
moments.

On the 70s punk side, I would recommand Killed By Death vol.15.5 which
includes a lot of cool flipsides of singles already available on other
KBD.The Bloodstains Across Belgium vol.3 ain't too exciting but the UK
vol.3 is really great, very obscure & will be enjoyed equally by punk
rock & power pop fans.(here, I have to mention that Powerpearls 4+5 are
in the oven).

I don't have their 2nd LP but from what you say it looks like a cover of
the Fanatics' version of Woman by the zombies. It was called I Can't
Believe the 1st time it was issued on Acid Visions vol.2 (now available
as a 45 on Caped Crusader).

"Woman" and "I can't Believe" are the same song. The Brood changed the title
for obvious reasons. The original comes from the New Breed andis availble on
Green Crystal Ties Vol 2 and probably a some other comps as well.

People Get Ready--Curtis Mayfield & the Impressions (?)

Poor Side of Town--isn't this Johnny Rivers? Or would a Billy Lee
Riley version be a completely different song, as I suspect?

Pretty Girls Everywhere--Arthur Alexander. Also
covered (rather cheesily) by the Walker Brothers in their early
California days.

I'm ashamed to admit these are the only ones I know offhand!
And I work out almost daily.

Hey,

Just a reminder that Mondo Topless are in Chapel Hill tonight. They played
here on Friday and where the best we'd ever seen them! The "makeshift"
line-up for this trip is totally amazing, spontanious and fun.
The bass player is also in another band called the 3,4,10's which are
HIGHLY recommended. Melodic 60's oriented garage with a touch of psych.
Quite nice! They have a 45 on Lounge records, plus a CD and are just
recording some more stuff!

Nice that you mix some classics (of course less obvious ones) with the
oddball Bomp-related stuff. Cuts like "Broken Arrow" don't often get
played on mainstream radio because of it's length (unless it's Freebird)
and it's confuse-a-DJ false endings.

Anyone got any info on this band? obviously (if the lyrics to this tune
hold true), they are from Long Island...."we're in a West West

I appreciate that. On "Broken Arrow", you simply have to watch the
needle. Thank God it's at the end of the side which makes that task somewhat
easier. I can't count how many times cuts such as that have me inadvertently
cutting the song in half. The 'Stones track? It's intimidating, I.M.O.
That's a description used by an old roomie of mine from the U. K. to describe
their tuneage (...tho' he was talking about their version of "Around and
Around" when he said it...) and explain why his parents wouldn't allow his
older sister to see 'em in concert (in the late '60s) unless chaperoned by my
roomie's older brother. Plus all you ever of the 'Stones on commercial radio
is "Satisfaction" (which I never liked) or cuts off of "Sticky Fingers" and
"Exile On Main Street" To steal a line from a local DJ (Jimmy Botticelli, to
be exact...) I'll play the hitmakers but avoid the hits.

Subject: Novas Query

Greetings Bompers,
While watching the Bomboras do a version of "The Crusher" tonight, I
thought of another epic Novas tune, the "Beer Bust Blues" (I swear that
singer is El Duce's {RIP} dad). I have a poor sounding tape copy, from
when I had to worry about "illegal possession of the golden ale." I
believe it was on a Highs in the Mid-Sixties. Can someone put me
straight on this? Also, what does the mother say after the father speaks?
				Thanks, Mark
