There's the version by The Scotsmen which I think is the original version on
"The Scotty Story" (Arf! Arf!). The songwriting credit goes to Warren
Kendrick.

A newer one that is good for that is "Hairspray" for the Mashed Potato,

I think the trendy disco movie "54" has the song "Disco Duck," or at least
it should. In the song, the duck voice says "Shake your tailfeather, baby!
kwa kwa kwa kwa."

There is some dance info here:

http://www.eijkhout.net/rad/dance_specific/novelty.html

Also, arthurmurray.com has a dance dictionary:

"FRUG: The Frug was born from a dance called the Chicken which had a lateral
body movement and was used as a change of pace during the Twist. So as the
kids grew lazier they decided to do less work, and started moving only their
hips while standing still. As the hips swing from side to side they started
making up arm movements for the dance. From this came the Swim, the Monkey,
the Dog, the Watusi, the Waddle or Wabble and the Jerk. Some of these dances
are named with localities. What we call the Frug is often called the Surf,
Big Bea and Thunderbird, with the Swim being born out of it. What we call
the Watusi is also known as Wabble and Waddle. The Monkey, Dog, Bump and
Jerk fall roughly into the same category."

"Jump, Jive and Harmonize" is my fave for dancin' ravers. If ya don't dig it
you are a square, no exceptions.

>Plus all you ever of the 'Stones on commercial radio is "Satisfaction"

"Satisfaction" is often a "first riff learned" for budding guitarists (or
try "Smoke o the Water"). It also may be the most ripped off riff ever,
but then it's so basic it's hard to say when someone is really ripping it
off or just playing a 1-b3-4 vamp.
Keith Richards says he "wrote" this song while passing out drunk with the
tape recorder on, waking up the next day to find a very bluesey early
version of this song on tape. This was the song that struck a huge chord
of mid-60s restlessness, although usually when I hear it now I think of
that waterskiing scene from "Apocalypse Now".
Anyway, an interesting choice of lyrics for Mick to sing in front of
thousands of screaming teenage girls.

There's an instructional video called "Christy Lane's Learn the
Dances of the '50s and '60s." The production values and the
background music are cheesy and inaccurate, and the instructor's
way too chipper, but the moves seem pretty good.

Gotta second "Hairspray." Lots of the AIP pictures had good dance
scenes--can't beat Candy Johnson and her fringes!

Hi,

I know quite a few 60's dances. If you e-mail me off the list I can
describe them to you the best I can! The only way to really learn is to
take a class or be shown how-to; I tried learning from old books and
record sleeves, then signed up for a local class thinking I was hot
shit. And here I had most of them wrong! My favorite was the way our
instructor (a very HYPER old gay guy) described learning to twist (the
"real" Twist, "not that Pulp Fiction gyrating" as he put it) as "just
stepping out of a shower, towel drying your ass rapidly whilst mashing
out cigarette butts on the floor with both feet." It was right on, too!
Ay, Mimi? :0)

yeah-almost all of their stuff is hippy stuff BUT listen to the first 3 LP's
before judging!!!! My highly rec'd choice is THE FUGS (black & white
cover)-garage raga rock w/ beat lyrics. Also The FUGS FIRST ALBUM mixes beat
lyrics w/ hillbilly and rock n roll that I don't even know who you could say
inspired it, but it was PRE hippy (1965). The VIRGIN FUGS has a great (and
pretty fuckin' scary) song called I COMMAND THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL. Not garage
in the strict sense, but none of these LPs are hippie!!!

However, on Friday the 29th of January, there was no sound whatsoever

Real Audio problems plagued the netcast. So we didn't get to hear Victor's

The Kave-In CD has a different cover because it's essentially a different
release - you'll note that it's actually called "IT'S A KAVE-IN - KING SIZE
KOLLECTION". It features seventeen tracks that weren't on the vinyl, and 4
of the LP tracks were ommitted because they've since been (or will be)

What 7" is this from? I thought I had all of Bum's 45s.
What did I miss?

IMHO the best version of "Satisfaction" was done by DEVO! I also love
their version of "Secret Agent Man", and play it once in a while on the
Wayback Machine.

My fave cover of "Last Time" was done by Australia's Feedtime on their
"Cooper-S" LP.

Okay everyone it's about to hit the printers, so it's time to order.
This is the read of the year. 100 pages of 'Satisfaction Guaranteed'!

The magazine highlight is a mammoth John's Children interview with
singer Andy Ellison and drummer/guitarist Chris Townson. We managed to
pick up some great un-seen photos too. Pete Daltrey remembers the 1960s
era (The Sidekicks, The Key, *Kaleidoscope*. *Fairfield Parlour*) which
he was predominant in. Jesse Hector, London 'mod' scenester, is
interviewed about his musical career 1961 - 1998 (Clique/Crushed
Butler/Hammersmith Gorillas). Reggie King of The Action, interviewed.
David John & The Mood. 1960s Scottish Beat Scene. Pre-Nazz bands. Us
psych, The Thingies and lots more inc. nearly 30 pages of reviews of
recent 60s psych/garage/beat re-ishs.

It's a must!
