Subject: Screaming Lord Sutch

Last night's Screaming Lord Sutch gig was great fun! While the backing band
- - the Scorpions (who had a couple of singles out on Parlophone and are
unrelated to the "Dutch" band of the same name - came across as a typical
pub rock'n'roll band they were good musicians and Sutch's theatrics and
showmanship made the whole deal extremely entertaining. Although the most
entertaining sight of the evening had to be seeing our very own Steve
Coleman on stage wielding a huge sword battling Sutch's Jack the Ripper who
was attacking him with a large axe!

The sad thing was seeing Heinz - wheelchair bound due to multiple sclerosis
and barely about to sing any longer. He did, however, have a go at a couple
of songs and the crowd loved him all the more for his brave efforts.

Original members of the Savages as well as various other Meek recording
artists joined Sutch on the stage during the evening, including Tony
Dangerfield (She's Too Way Out), all of whom were visibly enjoying
themselves.

As one person said to me - Mojo I think - it was a bit like a scene from a
weird English version of a David Lynch scenario, especially with the
audience being so very mixed (from teens to 60 year olds). But it was
fun....

This is quite a sad story. I'm sorry to hear about poor Heinz. An LP of his
was one of the first beat records I picked up in the late 70's and I
totally fell in love with him, and it sent me on a Joe Meek Freak!
Does Heinz have a fanclub or anything - does anyone know? It would be nice

Bonjour
The LP "Bonnie + Clyde" by Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot
was originally re-leased in France in 1968 (and in Canada). The duo had
recorded the song on an EP with 3 other songs and the company decided to
make an LP of it, since it was a success. So they took a few "older"
material from Serge to pad the LP. What you bought was a Japanese
boot-leg.  There are 5 in that series: Bonnie& Clyde; Anna; Percussions;
Confidentiel; Melody Nelson. There exists a scopitone of the song
Bonnie & Clyde and Bubble Gum, the only two scopitones with Serge.
There's a TV show, as well, of the whole Melody Nelson LP. And of
course, "Anna" is a TV-Movie, tho not very good considering the music on
it is, I believe, the best ol'Serge ever did....

Hey all,
I relayed this to Greg already. A friend of Mike's and myself, layed the
news on to us,(Chris is you're out there, it was Darren) who had spoken to his
parents. This is pretty bizarre, but it seemed as word spread through SD
others had heard about it via other sources. Despite it all, I am interested

at best. (Usually when Ron Rimsite came to town) Anyways, it would be great

Subject: Re: holy modal rounders 1st lp

I have all the rounders lps-but the first 2 are hardly psychedelic! They are
totally traditional bluegrass folk by stampfel and weber. The third, "Indian
War Whoop" is psychedelic, but probably not in any way you have ever
imagined....For some reason, Stampfel and Weber decided that since they hadn't
played together in years, they should get together with a few other musicians
(Lee Crabtree from the Fugs, and SAM SHEPARD on drums!), invite their
GIRLFRIENDS to sing along, and do an album UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF LSD, WITHOUT
REHEARSING FIRST!!!!
No shit! Stampfel, who I knew pretty well at one time, told me this story! The
record is very noisy, but they do actually play songs, and at times it is very
funny. At some points it is actually brilliant. But most of it is very hard to
listen to and takes a die-hard fan to appreciate. It came out on ESP-DISC (The
label that The Fugs and Pearls Before Swine were on), which is really the only
label it could have ever been released on at the time. It has been re-released
on CD, but I forget the label.
The Rounders "psychedelic" masterpiece (and probably the one that you have
heard was their "first") is THE MORAY EELS EAT THE HOLY MODAL ROUNDERS on
Electra. I wish someone would re-release this on CD! It is an amazing and very
wierd LP, with moody, scary echo-laden ballads like "The Werewolf" (a double
tracked accapella lament by Stampfel, on being a werewolf), "Dame Fortune", a
wierd ballad set to a baroque acoustic guitar and harpsichord, with lyrics
like:
"Long your laughing fortune, chuck my chin, scratch my back, bite my neck,
lick my ear, take off all the awful slack...Roll me over in the clover, roll
me over just like Rover, do it just a little lower, slightly to the left and
lower". "STP Song" is a great ode to the deadly hallucinogen, with lines like
"I'll pour drano in his Duji, and wait for him to Rush".
The Rounders had several LPs after this one, but the only 2 that were
"psychedelic" were War Whoop and this one.

According to a msg the guys posted on banana-truffle, Mick wants to pursue
poppier interests. No personality problems, just different interests.

They haven't found a permanent replacement yet (which is one of the
reasons they posted to banana-truffle; they're In Search Of.) In the

of the Standells playing a show at Knots Berry Farm in Anaheim in Feb. I
looked at the Knotts Berry website but couldn't find any info. Does anyone
know the date and time for this show?

Hi Blair, before answering your questions I wanted to inform you on the
setup for the series. The first twenty shows will feature three bands per
30 minute segment. The following ten shows will focus on two bands per
segment. The final twenty shows will spotlight 1 band. The series will
cover the 100 bands in 50 weeks.

The answer to your first question is, partly. The 100 greatest Rock 'n'
Roll Bands of the 20th Century is my own subjective list. It chiefly comes
out of my own record collection that spans from the R&B and Jump combos of
the 1940s to the true Rock 'n' Roll outfits that continue the good fight
into the 90's.

To the second question: I hope so? You must ask the mighty Malone that
question.

To the final question: I wasn't Planning a sequel to the 80s book, but I
think it would be a great idea. Someone should do it (maybe Blair
Buscareno). I would throw my whole-hearted support to this project if
you're interested...

It was one of my favorite programs when I was a student at Stony Brook,
too, and from what I can tell from recently posted playlists, the
Psychedelicatessen still offered some of the best sounds! Is this part of
more extensive changes in the WUSB program/character of the station?
Hopefully not. The Psychedelicatessen, Dead End Radio, and a few more WUSB
programs are some of the best around and it would be a shame if they can
no longer be heard due to such a changes...

I don't know how many people out there in Bomp-land read Rev. Joe
Longone's book, The Great Rock'n'Roll Survey - 1980s (did I get the title
exactly right?). However, any fan of the 80s garage scene will find it an
excellent read.
As I said to Joe in a private e-mail, I'd love to see a 90s sequel come
out. If I had the money to fund such a venture, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
But, unfortunately, I don't. On the other hand, the Net presents some
intriguing possibilities. What do you think, Joe?

no, it's just that the current program director doesn't know his ass
from his elbow when it come to radio programming and in my opinion never
should have been given that position in the first place (speaking as a
former pd)....but enough of the station dirty laundry.

you can do that but, that would only go to the person responsible for
this idiotic move. you might also want to contact wusb's general

I reviewed it on the Coffee 'n' Smokes Rants 'n' Raves page. Also, check
out the CD that comes with it. I challenge anyone to not play The Mystic
Tides' "Frustration" to death.
That blows about the "Psychedelicatessen" being taken off of the WUSB
schedule. I had become a fairly regular listener since going on line at home
a few months back. It's a sobering reality to we community members who DJ at
stations based on college campuses that we are never truly secure regardless
of the popularity of our shows or our seniority. Thank God I have shitty time
slot...

Anyhoo, check out the C 'n' S website for the review of "Unknown
Legends...and other stuff. I've reconfigured it for easier use, but still with
easily corruptible files at http://members.aol.com/apiandes/Main/

Great. Looks like us Mac users, unless we're using SoftWindows (which

We had dinner with them on Tuesday, most entertaining bunch of guys. The
evils of my job made me miss their first SF appearance at the Tip Top
last night but reports are that it was an excellent, extremely energetic
show.

You can see them on Saturday, before they head down South, at The Purple
Onion with Tee & Thee Crumpets and The Flakes. Amazingly, Tom at the
Onion has actually done a listing of upcoming shows at sent it to the
local papers. We've followed up with some advertising and flyers, so we
hope for an Onion Sell Out.

See you there?

If you've got the Mac equivalent of Access - something that handles
relational databases - you can download the raw tables and create a
simple user interface of your own.

Or if anyone out there can give me some pointers on programming
for a Mac while using a Microsoft operating system, I'll give it a
shot. Maybe Adobe File Builder or whatever it's called now is the way
to go?

Very sorry to hear that Psychadelicatessen is being cancelled. Sounds
like this new PD is an idiot. But of course those of us on this list are
going to think that. What's really sad is that it's just ONE PERSON's
decision to give certain shows the axe. At least KDHX has a 7-member
Program Committee, and we (yes, I'm a committee member) VOTE on all
programming changes. So what's he gonna replace it with? More
alternacrap?
